I used to be a miner. I loved it. I was earning $$$ per month in LTC when it was pure GPU mining. Never cashed out.

I must admit I had a good time during the early alts boom. Solo mining on day one and pool mining for weeks afterwards. Don't know if the same old thrill still exists or if it's all about immediate dumping nowadays

Sad thing is a lot of the coins I mined are completely dead, like my GPUs Angry

I earn more than a dollar a day through alt coin mining. It is much more like passive income, but still somewhat risky due to certain factors like difficulty rise, block halving and many other things.

Speaking of which, I look at Bitcoin and other altcoins as a way to make a side income (more of like a hobby) but in reality it can never replace a job (unless you have invested a lot in cloud mining, etc) Signature campaigns have pretty good payouts, but you can never compare them as a real job since you will earn much more with the same.  Smiley

it has come to my attention that many ppl here who want to get rich without work through altcoins (they think BTC made ppl rich so now its their turn) think that they could actually become wealthy with cryptocurrency. Reality beyond the delusion is: they dont even earn US minimum wage.

What keeps people here ? ?

- u most likely cant get rich or wealthy - unless u r dan and invented the Steem money generating scheme for example.

U can get some beer money or pocket spending money participating in those schemes if u r a regular user.

But thats about it.

So like the Spoetnik has pointed out correctly, in general, a job at the McDonalds in fact makes u truly richer than participating in the altcoin hoax.

~CfA~

People are mostly here for speculation. Gambling with altcoins on several exchanges is what makes this market running.
I'm doing this as well. And if you know what you're doing, and don't get greedy and don't take too much risk, there is some money to make.
However alts are not good for longterm investments.Trade them on a short term to make profits in fiat or use them to increase your BTC stash.

I am sorry but I think you misunderstand the facts.
Blockchain Technologie is a completely new field like the internet/computer at the end of last century. Bitcoin can stay but will high likely not be the only coin, that stays. If you invest now in alts, you have the chance to invest in the next Apple or Microsoft to ridiculous low prices. I think, that everyone in this forum, that tries to stay up to date, invests a few bucks in the right coins and keeps the assets for 20 years, will have a (minimum) 100-fold ROI!

I think most of Bitcointalk users joined the forum because they are interesting in cryptocurrencies , and because they believe that the Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies might be the future of money , but what is the problem if they earn money while they are learning about cryptos , I agree that a signature campaign and some twitter campaigns equal to monthly salary in some third world countries , but it might equals one or two days wage in other rich countries .
Some members try to earn from other methods like trading altcoins or blogging , but also this methods require you to be in this forum to track the latest news and updates .
Conclusion : as long your work related to Bitcoin or cryptos , you will need to be in this forum , whether your monthly wage $200 or $5000 .

I like forum because I can share what I know and people share that What I don't know ( great symbiosis )
Signature campaign is unique feature if I comparing with my own local forum. Because of it, I get earn more cash to help my college fee
There is some serious talk lately about getting rid of sig campaigns because they incentivize low quality posting.  I would be disappointed because it's one of the unique features,  as you said, that makt this forum great.  Poor wage slaves and the unempoyed can at least earn something.

And yes I think I earn over $1/day on the forum.

in one word those are "idiots". and sooner or later they will realize that.

through altcoins

i don't see the problem with this. trading altcoins is a good thing. you may not become a millionaire while trading them but you can make a decent amount of profit that you can call salary at the end of the month.

What keeps people here ? ?

as i said anybody who thinks he can magically get rich over night is an idiot. although people have gotten rich before when they bought bitcoin at <$10 and forgot and then sold at $700-$800+

i agree.
there are many different jobs that people can do and different paths they can take.
i believe you shouldn't look at altcoin market this negatively.

for example ethereum with all these negativity has brought me so much profit. i have bought eth when it was low and dumped it in the first pump and got out fast and never believed those spammers saying to the moon and all that other bullshit. was this a hoax? no, it is when you expect more out of these altcoins that they can provide.

although i agree with most of Spoetnik posts, i think this is a little extreme...
most of the altcoins are just scams and that i agree, but not all. And you can make a good income if you learn about trading.

maybe many ppl have wrong in perception about bitcoin and altcoin so they think that they are rich. but if they have bitcoin and altcoin in the same time, i think they can try to trading and make some money rather than they only sit and watching. and i think they can make a stable profit in $ 0.5 or even more, they will get more than enough for their life.

it is really great to work for bitcoins, to be honest i have never had an opportunity to do that though if i had a chance i would definitely work for bitcoins because it is like an investment for me

For me it is more like a hobby / slight obsession, still waiting for certain coins to skyrocket but not really banking on that, I am happy being part of this community and am looking forward to the time when it does break properly into the mainstream and I can say that I was there at the beginning.

I would love to have the confidence and skill to quit my full time job and move into trading but right now it isn't practical as there are no certainties in this game.
a perfect summary. same goes for me.
hobby/being part of the interesting community/i like to work with hardware while building a mining rig and maintaining in/selling buying and hoping to make little profit/since this all is risky as surfing during a tsunami i will keep my main job for while more

i just want to see the whole decentralized coin mining to go live in the mainstream world and show every1 that there are different ways of making payments
