It costs next to nothing to create a new board and there isn't much harm having it even if it's not very active. But you have to be able to define (no pun intended) what DeFi is so that mods would know what goes there and users would know where to post.

Altcoin definition is quite clear - anything that is not Bitcoin.

Token - any "crypto" that doesn't have it's own blockchain.

DeFi - smart contracts something something finance? So basically most smart contracts? What if the DeFi project has its own token, which most of them do and often more than one - can they spam multiple boards, perhaps multiple times?

Having a local board for Bengali and some other active local languages is more important than having a DeFi sub board. I may sound off topic here but to be honest, we don't need that. We have boards to discussion DeFi aka altcoins. While we don't have a board for Bengali local. You should put your effort there I think.

Apparently, the initiative of Defi, Lightning Network and NFT might seem unique in a way and subboard deserving on the forum but, we ought to realise that, other projects would continue to evolve still, each with there differences that would make them seem board deserving. If all these projects are given attention more than needed, we might end up clouding the forum with boards that won't really stand over time and would be a place for spammers and shit posting should it be active at all. The altcoin board is doing just fine.

I think the major confusing here is just in its naming as in, Alternate Cryptocurrency (Altcoin). Perhaps, a renaming of the board would have seem just fine but, it could come with some confusion too if the altcoin go missing. Maybe a merger could work, something that conotes both altcoin and accommodates other projects that aren't exactly coins but still exists in the crypto ecosystem.

I am wondering to propose to prevent tokens from the forum posting their announcement (Lol). Just allow Blockchain here to post their announcement. People just creating a shit token and raising funds. Nothing useful here whether DeFi or not. Everyone just comes to become rich, no one really cares about technology. DeFi means Decentralized Financial system, so all Decentralized altcoins are under the DeFi zone. Centralized cryptocurrency like USDT out of DeFi zone. So I don't think we really need any section for so-called DeFi.

DeFi story will end up like ICO & tokens after big hype from 2017. mass creation of new ones where just where only every fiftieth is perhaps worthy of attention. in a year or two, we will have a new trend, called by some other name but the essence will be the same.
Announcements (Altcoins) > Tokens (Altcoins) child board is enough, just my opinion.

Some ICOs turned out to be pretty valuable.  Ethereum being one.  I think some of the DeFi rails will probably stick around.  PancakeSwap & Uniswap being likely candidates.  Most of the actual coins they trade are garbage though.  Coins promising tens of thousands of percent for staking but with no liquidity...  As more and more chains pop up, I think DeFi could end up being a useful part of the crypto infrastructure.  It's good tech.  If the market continues to fragment instead of consolidate, that is a real possibility.  Especially when you consider the metaverse and gaming could bring all sorts of very popular tokens to markets where the owners may not have access to a bank account.  Right now there's just not much of value there, so people are pump and dumping everything.

Not to defend "DeFi", but the DeFi category isn't anything new. Literally any project that falls into the finance category is in the DeFi category(pretty much 95% probably lmao); and that includes projects that did ICOs, and obviously, tokens.

Goodnight, o_e_l_e_o 🌹
I understood that here is bitcointalk, Theymos is not interested in any further things that will keep dividing the wave. Bitcoin is the king and the centre of the discussion. Defi is here and may die off, but bitcoin remains. Anything that does not emanate from bitcoin is cool at the Altcoin boards and the existing sub-boards. Maybe he doesn't want to increase the number of moderators or the workload of moderators for something that is not helping bitcoin.

What do you think? My proposal is not important enough to discuss? Your valuable opinion and suggestion are appreciable.

Your proposal won't be the first, but it certainly won't be the last. If you have the opportunity to discuss it in other forum such as altcointalk then it's good you can forward it in that forum. I can't find any other reason to see defi board made on this forum because defi is just hype that will fade sooner or later. Are you also going to make an NFT proposal or some other hype?

I also haven't come across any new board made so far, perhaps including a Lightning Network board which is much more useful than the defi. Because defi is still an altcoin ecosystem so you can discuss it on the appropriate board, this is a temporary solution for you for now.

interest all over crypto space. 1.36 million people have used the Defi service once.

A total market capitalization of 128 Billion should have enough interest and topic for discussion.
All these do not factor into the discussion about creating a child board on the forum, there has to be actual interest, enough to clog up the general board it is on, in this case that would be the altcoin section.
You can make a detailed request with full info on number of existing posts, possibly within the last 2-3 months.

Farewell o_e_l_e_o
DeFi is part of altcoin ecosystem and we have Announcement (altcoins); Announcement (tokens). Most of DeFi projects belong to Announcement (tokens) which is a child board of Announcement (Altcoins) board. See theymos' classification on altcoins and altcoins (tokens)
Definition of tokens

Also it is not first time, it is requested. BITCOINTALK FORUM NEEDS A DEFI SUB-BOARD

To have a subboard about a topic there needs to be enough interest and topic to discuss on. So I am thinking we should have a subboard dedicated to Defi because of its interest all over crypto space. 1.36 million people have used the Defi service once. This hot cake should not be ignored because of people's interest in it.

By following these criteria I think a child board or subforum about Defi is much more demandable. This topic has been discussed mainly in altcoin talk or bitcoin subforum mostly. Right now I do not have those statistics but I think I have already seen a lot of topics related to Defi directly or indirectly. So a dedicated board for that should not be a problem after all. A total market capitalization of 128 Billion should have enough interest and topic for discussion. What do you think? My proposal is not important enough to discuss? Your valuable opinion and suggestion are appreciable.
