Bitcoin don't need any publicity because already many people know about bitcoin, even daily magazines are publishing different articles either in form of good and bad things about bitcoin. So many people are willing to look at bitcoin and they are trying to learn some thing about bitcoin.
Actually, it is not as popular as you think and if it was popular, people would only know about it as a type of illegal currency which was used for illegal activities and stupid MLM schemes. In my countries, many people know about bitcoin but only few of them are truly having Bitcoin and using its for many purposes while the others believe Bitcoin is not a good thing to get involving in. Bitcoin is really in need support from some big and reputation company such as Microsoft or Ebay or Amazon

Bitcoin need  more exposure that it can get and this will create new market and bring more people to Bitcoin, for site like ebay to accept and promote Bitcoin will be a huge boast for it.
But unfortunately, eBay is already owning PayPal and promoting bitcoin will be the same as killing their own service, therefore, it's not going to happen or they will only enable 3rd party and not implementing bitcoin by themselves. I think the only way is to encourage some business which is providing similar service like eBay to implement bitcoin. It's the most effective way so far in my opinion

Good point. yes ebay played a major rule for paypal. but only epay is not responsible for this. we should consider amazon as well because it is equal to ebay marketplace in usage..
yes bitcoin also need marketplace's support to get a good place for future, I think now we got a better marketplace for bitcoin and it is Openbazaar.org.

Ebay has played a great role in the success of PayPal in becoming leading payment processor.Do we need a similar ebay like site to popularize Bitcoin and make it leader in money transfer?
The issue about this is regardless of whether or not there are people who would use the site, it's how many people will join Bitcoin
because of it. Bitcoin needs something new and unique, that everyone wants to use, in order for it to gain popularity. Anything that is already done by fiat isn't something Bitcoin can use to compete with effectively.
I think using ebay or other sites even when these sites adopt bitcoin payment method, then it will really help to make the popularity of bitcoin well be high. or for the deployment of bitcoin to get more people adopt bitcoin

There have been and are sites like Ebay for Bitcoin. I used to use Bitmit, but I think they actually got bought out by Ebay. Shame because it was a pretty good site. Theres also Bitify right now. I find that the problem though is due to the nature of Bitcoin and a certain niche it attracts, Bitify is a scam hole. I've made maybe 5 purchases and 3 of which were scams. Their support isn't too bad, so I didn't lose anything, but I'm sure because of the amount of scams they are severely understaffed. I had something like 1-2 week resolution times with support.

The biggest issue I'd imagine, is to be feasible, they would need Ebay like fees. Most Bitcoiners use Bitcoin because of the lack of fees involved, and may not be too thrilled to pay the 10% needed to get decent customer service, and staff that can dissuade scam attempts. While Ebay has plenty of scammers, Ebay has enough resources to take the hit themselves if need be, or take legal action to actually go after people. I don't think Bitcoin Ebay would have that sort of luxury, so if anything, they would need to increase fees to cover unavoidable losses.

The problem with Bitcoin based services that mimic mainstream services like Ebay is it will not work. How can it compete with the mainstream services that uses credit cards and cash? It is much more accessible than Bitcoin will ever be. It should be time for us to realize this and embrace what niche where Bitcoin really thrives. The dark markets.

I don't think ebay like e-commerce websites will do any good to bitcoin. Paypal is entirely a different ball game. Paypal is strictly regulated and follows rules. It was a path braking innovation at that time, but the money people used to pour in, was all fiat.

But bitcoin is a different electronic currency without any origin and it is not regulated by anyone. So, bitcoin popularity is basically based on the people's trust. It can't be measured by the way people can buy things from a marketplace. So bitcoin's price is the only factor which is increasing its fanbase and it will continue to do so. E-commerce sites will not be any help.

site like ebay is a good option for the bitcoiner to popularize Bitcoin and make it leader in money transfer because we can see paypal is doing  this for long time ago. and when the site is promoting many product like what ebay do and for the payment is accepting bitcoin, then bitcoin has reach another level to promote the crypto currency with the technology. but for the other site which have been accepting bitcoin, i see there are few promotion they do in the internet so the bitcoin will not penetrate into many places.

Still not sure whether btc going mainstream would be good or bad though. Might lead to more governmeny surveillance.
Obviously bitcoin gonna be mainstream currency and it will be good for bitcoin both in respect to its price and usability. Government surveillance can't be enough to track down or stop bitcoin transactions but this may limit the amount of bitcoin than can be exchanged in local bitcoin ATMs and local trading platform.

Then how can Bitcoin be a mainstream currency if that is your argument? Do you not know how stupid that sounds? If a currency is to become mainstream, it has to be made legal tender by a governing body. You are only talking out of your ass and you have no idea what you are saying.

actually an ebay like site is the only thing that we need for promoting bitcoin and seeing the real adoption take place.
we all keep talking about it but unless a big application like this is made i don't see people using bitcoin other than an investment. and using it as an investment can only raise the price to small levels but when people all around the world use a platform to trade and spend bitcoin (like an ebay like site) we will see the real rise to 10K USD

Have you seen Openbazaar? Why does nobody use it? People say they want decentralized shopping then dont use it.

we absolutely need something like ebay to promote bitcoin.
because I believe that the only effective thing that can help the adoption, and not only adopting new traders but adopting new real users is these types of places when regular people can actually spend bitcoin just like they spend money through paypal or other methods. sites like gyft,... have proven this already.

it doesn't matter how long you talk about benefits of bitcoin to new people, showing them sites like that does the work of a thousand words.
For us bitcoin users have a big problem when it comes to spending our bitcoin, we earn our bitcoin we work hard for it and save it , but when it comes to spending it that where we stop.

Every time we need to buy something we have to exchange it into real money which defies the principal of the bitcoin. I think that when big companies like eBay or Amazons starts to use it as a payment method that will solve our problem and it will also encourage other investments in it.

Its hard to believe that bitcoin will achieve those big websites, since their country hasnt made anything yet to legalize bitcoin, and in the general those companies does follow the rules, thats why they are famous and trusted companies. If bitcoin achieve of of them im pretty sure the market will boom, and we will see a lot advantages, but the things is will those make those companies lower their fees?

A site like eBay or Amazon can probably be a great publicity for bitcoin if that happens, because we know these sites has really large user bases and if such a site starts accepting bitcoin as a payment then the users would probably try to know more about it and i don't think anyone would not like it if they have a look at it.

I think ebay is well known online shopping cart and i think if ebay can accept bitcoin they can promote bitcoin to use easily for those who do not want to be hassle in buying in their site.. if ebay accepting bitcoin amazon also will be accepting bitcoin that can attract more people to use bitcoin..

Though we are thinking about eBay what about buying android apps and apple store. Or apple starting to accept Bitcoin payment for it's phone. I personally feel eBay is a great platform, but we need more from eBay then just allow a payment, I feel it needs to be expanded to Apple and Android apps payment. Then it will be more fun. But when will that day come?
