That just evolved over time into banknotes printed by the governments and got this big. Bitcoin for example is just a digital asset that normally has no value AT ALL but we say it worths something and it does, normally all money you know are like that but at least most of it has a backing from a government, when you have 10 dollar banknote in your hand government says you own 10 dollars, in bitcoin there is nothing like that neither and we still find it valuable.
