...money flowing in? I'm not looking for solutions, I'm merely asking, something for discussion  Grin
No, I don't go after frivolities irrespective of the money I have. The things that I have seen and the lessons I have learnt over the years has made me to be wiser, better and more prudent with my financial dealings. I work strictly on my budget, I'm unperturbed by major trends, I live a moderate life and and I take good care of myself. Instead of spending lavishly because my income has increased drastically, I would rather expand my investment. In life we cannot control some of the things that happens to us, the money may not really be there tomorrow. So the choices we make today can make a huge difference tomorrow.

This is a big problem for me. At the moment, when I want to buy something, this thing seems so necessary to me, but after a few days, I regret the purchase and realize that I don’t need it at all. This happens with such regularity that I start to think of myself as a shopaholic. Fortunately, I have many friends to whom I can give my unnecessary things as gifts. Maybe it’s precisely because I know what and where to put something if I get tired of it that still allows me to be calm about spending money on unnecessary things.

I used to, but not anymore. I understand my and my family's basic needs. So I spend them according to their needs. I consider unnecessary spending as a waste of money. Whenever I'm buying anything, I try to save as much as possible. It's not that I'm a cheapskate. I am mostly doing this for the betterment of my family. Who knows when something bad might happen? And in that crisis moment, money will play the most crucial part. If I save $1 today, I can use that $1 tomorrow when it is really needed.

There is this saying that some people tend to be more cautious in managing their finances if they only have a very small amount of income at that very moment, but when they have a huge amount, they lose all their sense of judicious management ability.

Some people, at a point in their lives, are open to opportunities where money can keep flowing into their pockets more easily than before. The money will keep flowing in, but at some point, the opportunity might cease or things might change to cause the financial flow to reduce from what it used to be. At that point, if it was someone who was judiciously managing their finances, saving, and investing, they would not have any issue providing for their needs, but if it were someone who was mismanaging his money during the time when it was supplouse, then he or she might find it difficult and that very moment that the cash flow will cease.

I am not in the category of people who run into purchasing or spending on less important things, even if the money is plentiful, I still go along with my budget.

Emotional buying comes from your feeling of guilt that you are working hard and working, yet you eat the same food, wear the same clothes, and do the same work without benefiting from the profits you have collected. Therefore, you find yourself trying to spend this money and buy more, and the feeling of guilt returns and that you should not have spent this money.

The solution is a fixed budget, in addition to a percentage each month to buy luxuries.

I guess it is normal for people to buy something unnecessary when they have the luxury. No wonder we have levels of clothes and other stuff with a price from cheap to very expensive like that of Loius Vitton, etc. They have the same purpose but the prices aren't the same. And there is nothing wrong with this as long as people are not trying hard to go beyond its limits.

I remember when someone borrowed money from me. Every time I tried to collect it, there were excuse after excuse. The lamest excuse I received was when the borrower and her daughters could not pay me because they spent the money enhancing their skin in a dermatology clinic.

If what you call unnecessary things are what will be needed in the future, yes I do that alot even till this present time because that is not wasteful as it will be needed someday and taking cognizance of the fact there is high level of inflation in most economy, so definitely the monitory value of a product today will not be the same at the future time when you will need it. In that light, when you are talking about such spending as unnecessary, well from what I have explained, I don't consider it wasteful or unnecessary. In fact that is a more prudent way to plan if you can do that. At least some little domestic things can be purchased in that manner like food stuffs, utensils, clothings, personal items like soap, fragrance etc.

However, surely there are unnecessary spending which careless living is part of it. Some people are funds of losing there money either by misplacing it or sending out money wrongly because they are hopeful to get another tomorrow but tomorrow is not always certain. Invest the money you would have spent wastefully.

Im guilty with this on the time on which i have gained my first million in local currency value on which it did really make myself that impulsive on buying things without having those simple financial management yet i do have in mind that i could really still be able to earn it again on crypto space but i was wrong on the time that bear market hits. We do know that its not really that holiday on everyday on which you could make money and this is why its really that something ideal that you should really be saving up something for the winter days. It did really make a huge hit on the time that i havent already making decent income or something earns that on crypto space which i had realized that i had wasted too much money and really missing out lots of opportunities for me to make a business or investment on which it would really be making me survive somehow.

Just like on what said above that it is really that normal for a human being on having those kind of approach or feeling on the time that you do have tons of money then it would really be just that normal that you would really be spending like a mad man or there's no tomorrow. On the time that people would really be experiencing some financial problem then this is where realization do kicks in.

Sometimes I have to sit back and think about this also because I always find it difficult to save money, and the stream of spending the money is opening almost every day, probably because of my level of earning.
I do find it difficult to invest because once I invest in something else, the return has not always been favourable. Only the Bitcoin investment I make through DCA is there for me; others just look like I am growing money to spend another day.

I was then told that I have to start overlooking some expenses that are not compulsory in order to save some money. I will start doing that by being stingy with myself and some people. I do give money for no reason to see if that can work.

This is also my problem , thats why I never go in groceries or in Malls without a list with my wife because if there is no list to follow surely I will end up buying everything that caught my eyes.
I don't know if this is a human nature but what I do believe is I am not good in holding money in my Hands.
actually this is why Im so thankful with my wife because she is the one who is best in taking our finances in good hand.
unnecessary purchasing damages our financial status , and if we can save those? surely we will be in better future.

When money flows in fast, money can come out fast too, this is human nature in general. The easiest money you get, the easier it is to spend it even if the items you buy are not really needed. The bigger the facilities you have, the bigger your expenses will be. Money plays an important role in every human desire. When you find it difficult to get money, you will be more careful about spending it.

First time I've got a big amount of money, I definitely splurged on things that down the line, I've regretted purchasing albeit they're things that's fascinating to look at so the regret got less and less when I think back on it, eventually I've learned the concept of not being attached to material things when I was watching a Kids/Teen cartoon show, you become free when you're finally severed from your Earthly attachments, that's the lesson I've got in that show and it's still guiding me to some degree about how I deal with things especially if it involves money.
Yes, obviously, I think it's human nature though. But looking back I should have at least invest that money or just save it for future used. Because we don't know what the future lies ahead, maybe down the line there is some emergency within your family and you could have used that extra money to help.
That's the most wrong assumption about human nature I've read in a while, modern consumerism isn't human nature, it's a behavior that's shaped and created by the capitalist society that banks on having people consume the products produced by the businesses to make a profit and create the economical Oruburos which means that it's not natural, the fitting thing for this would be that it's human instinct to adapt and survive, now it's human nature.

I didn't do it. Because I have already made a budget for everything I plan. But it's different with my partner who sometimes still buys beyond what has been budgeted. But it turns out he had prepared special money for unexpected things and for fun. So I don't mind it because it doesn't disturb our financial balance.

But don't do it too often. Because if we do it too often, I'm afraid we will become accustomed to shopping outside our budget. And our financial planning can go awry when that happens.

When I was younger I usually spent my money on unnecessary things. It was normal to follow new trends and upgrades in technology. It is common then to change my entire clothing because I think they are outdated or not in vogue. My friends always compete on who will get the latest phone or other accessories, so you have to work hard for sometimes months just to get a device that you don't need. I was easily influenced by friends and lived a life to impress others.
But my experience over the years has made me more prudent in my expenditure. Now one has to take care of a family and plan for the future. I don't spend money on luxury or irrelevant things anymore because I have to follow my budget strictly. I rather spend more on education and other investments than waste them on clothing or phones like I used to do in the past. Investing in the future of my dependents is more important than pleasure. If spend money the way I did before, I will have to borrow to survive.

I don't spending my money in an unnecessary things because there are plenty things to sort out with money, so anyone who keeps wasting money may be doing things that is not necessary is just that they do not know how painful it is to make money and, this could be those who their parents are wealthy and buying whatever they thinks is buyable without considering how hard for an average man out there to feed themselves will never use his money to keep buying unwanted things or living luxurious life ( though don't quote me wrongly that you can't buy whatever you want when the money is there or when your investment is actively making wave for you). As a man when the money keep flowing in do not forget to make investment because the little things that gives you money today might stop functioning at anytime and you may back down to level zero were you can't stand again or be able to have that chance to be receiving such amount of money that was flowing to you before. So keep investing than buying unnecessary things.

No because I follow an income and expenditure budget. If I earn more I spend more but I have foreseen it in the budget beforehand, just as I save and invest more. Then I do make some unnecessary purchases, but they fall into the category of miscellaneous or leisure, not simply because I earn more and start spending on nonsense as if there were no tomorrow.

Also, that flow of money might not go forever, unless you really build generational well for you and your family.

So it's better to weigh-in first, what do you want to buy, it is a question of need or just want?
