Life is about choices and we all are on the path led by our choices. It's not easy to talk about life regrets in general because we are/were in quite different situations. To make this thread easier, we just focus on the regrets in finances. I believe many of them can be lessons to learn from. I'll start first. Over a decade ago, I was living in a mega city of my country. At the time, the city was already a metropolitan place where you can meet all people over the world. Of course, the land was scarce and the price of housing was pretty high, nomal people could not afford to buy an apartment, let alone a house. However, one friend of mine was taking to a suburban area for an apartment, super nice but the neighborhood was not fully developed yet. The total cost of that departemtn was about $100,000. Well, I did not have that much money at that time but if I borrowed some from my parents and it was not a problem. Maybe because I was too young and did not get along with my parents at the time, I did not ask for that so I refused the offer and let go of that apartment. A few years later, the suburban area became part of the CBD and the housing price was going up insanely. Today, that apartment I missed is worth at least $1.2 million. Oh my... I hate myself for not buying that apartment every time I think about it.
This kind of regret has been felt by many people, and it will continue to be felt by many of us because, for the most part, we have no idea what the future holds and instead choose to gamble on luck. I share a similar experience with you, despite the fact that my own was not a house but rather a few plots of land in a village close to the capital city. At the time, I had excellent opportunities to acquire the land because I had recently received some cash, but I declined to do so but save it in bank.today, a plot of land is worth thousands of dollars there because the area has been well developed now.

I understand totally how you feel, my own experience may not have been this huge in finances but trust me, I've also lost opportunities in this regards.

Overtime, when it occurs I tend to fall into depression until I had to snap out of it, if something isn't for me, then it's not and there's no point to force myself on it.
What if the was a turn around if I had invested??

Oho - The apartment story is kind of regrets we all suffer.
But a year ago I met someone and he wanted me to invest in his business - he was a scammer - I invest $4000 in the business and I regret for doing that. I didn't find trace of that scammer group later. I suffered a huge loss and it took around 4 months to get out of it.
Worked double shift and paid off my loans.

Of course there are many regrets about finances, for example, is missing the opportunity to invest in crypto, selling too cheap, buying things that are not needed and so on, and a few years ago I invested in property unfortunately when I really needed money for capital I sold the property at a cheap price, moreover the environmental maintenance fee of the property I bought was very expensive.
If you sell your property to get capital for another business, I don't think it's too much regret. Because you can still get money from the property even if you sell it at a low price. After all, in the case of selling, there is always a price quote with a request from the buyer so that in the end it is you who decides. So it's not a regret in my opinion because you are only willing to let go of your property at a cheap price at that time.

As for the loss of opportunities to invest and buy things that are not needed, that is clearly a regret even though one could invest again at a later time. But for the time that he has already missed, of course it will be a regret because that time cannot be repeated, as well as when someone buys things he doesn't need where it will look redundant because he has used his money on things that are not important.
regret because buying not needed items is indeed a mistake in doing business especially when we are starting a business. at that time 2017 was indeed a golden year in the world of bounties, and at that time it seemed as if I did not value money enough to buy things that I wanted, not what I needed. if at that time I switched to another business maybe it would have been a different story, chances are I would have added to my current source of income with the capital at that time. but when it happens, we can only take it as a life lesson

I regret not to sell some tokens at the peak price last 2021. I lost about $300k unrealized profit and there is also another story. I have ever got decent amounts of money from participating in the ICO back 2018 and i used it all to buy real estate that's also my biggest mistake not saving at least some percent for the future hold. Crypto went crazy back 2021 and i might able to earn more than 10x from what i have sold in 2018. I only doubled it from my real estate investment which is a very bad profit.

Im now still stuck in my crypto investment. I dunno when i can get out from there. I just waiting for the price of bitcoin to recover back again to the 60k. That will enough for me to be honest.

Life will always be a mystery, sometimes we think that now we are doing our best, but after a few years we realize that what we did today was a mistake that brings regret, this will continue to happen and be repeated and the best thing is that we are grateful , and never regret, for example 2 years ago I bought bitcoin at a price of over $ 50k and there was an opportunity to sell when the price was over $ 60k, but because I thought the price would go up, I kept holding until I had to sell at $ 32k.

I have always learned not to look at my past because it might bring regrets which can influence my mood negatively. Let the past be forgotten because I cannot control it. I want to focus on the future because I can shape them. But among other financial regrets that I have is my inability to complete the technical course that would have given me a better high-paying job. Due to societal and environmental pressure, I had to abandon a technical education and most of my former coursemates have secured high-salary jobs. I regret leaving that training.
Actually, in this condition, I think just the opposite.
Even though what you said is true and everyone is free to make decisions in this regard, forgetting about the past will make you seem like you don't remember what mistakes you have made before, which makes you not think that it is possible to repeat the mistakes.
Although it does have a negative effect, the fact is that it is an experience that cannot be forgotten.

Instead of forgetting you could still remember it, in order to learn from your past negative experiences, so you don't commit the same mistakes anymore futurely. That is the positive side of every mistakes: to allow us learning something new which will improve ourselves as individuals. About the technical course, well, it's never too late to accomplish that. Don't intimidate yourself by others who have already completed it and are earning tons of money. You can reach there too!

Regret, of course I have felt until now, especially when I see the prices of Bitcoin, ETH, BNB and many cryptocurrencies who skyrocketed, I knew cryptocurrencies when the price of bitcoin skyrocketed from $ 120 to $ 1100 in 2013, it was very easy for bitcoin earnings from faucets, giveaway , PTC and so on, I once earning 3 BTC from the lottery on the faucet when the price of bitcoin at that time was around $ 235, unfortunately most of the bitcoin I used for hyip, gambling, cloud mining and so on.

I am sure that most people have such an experience, making mistakes that resulted in a bad financial situation. Of course, we might be so bad and feel regret so much. But, regretting will not result in better things. What we need to do is how we can take the lesson from the experience to be much better later, especially in taking the decision.

...The total cost of that departemtn was about $100,000. Well, I did not have that much money at that time but if I borrowed some from my parents and it was not a problem. Maybe because I was too young and did not get along with my parents at the time, I did not ask for that so I refused the offer and let go of that apartment. ...
This must be so hard for you. But with this, you can really take the lesson. I think that I actually have some regrets, not only once for taking the wrong decision related to my financial situation. Because this is also related to the crypto business here, I also have some regrets about being too greedy, not only once but twice. So that I lost the big chance to get money with high profits and ended up losing the chance and earning no money. Whereas I have been thinking about buying something very worthy.

.. I hate myself for not buying that apartment every time I think about it.
Please don't hate yourself I see life as a learning curve years ago I was introduced to a Ponzi scheme on the platform of an altcoin I loaned money from my salary account and invested in it about $800 was gone I felt suicidal but today I've recovered from that debt by making that circumstance challenge me into getting deeper into learning more about cryptocurrency and the profit ive made has drastically changed my fortune.

So I'd like you see a solution in that obstacle and learn more about real estate there loads of other landed properties you could still get by leveraging on your family resources. Don't give up

There's nothing that could be ad a losses on the financial economy if one failed to plan and prepare ahead any disaster coming, though some mistakes were inevitable but yet we can still maintain a low level of getting exposed to them by maintaining an orderly financial track and working continuously towards what others bever see coming before it get on us while they suffers the cost, that's why no any business or organizational settings will avoid the preparedness of planning to budget for their activity flow and work on feedbacks in related areas.

many opportunities are missed in life that end in regret but it all comes back to oneself to react to it.
I even once had regrets in life to take opportunities that could change my life but because of my own ego and negligence so I went through it but gradually I realized that what has been missed cannot be changed so what can be changed is the mindset.
make everything that is missed a lesson to be better in the future.

but there are also some things that missed opportunities due to financial problems, such as passing the price of Bitcoin in the past, but I don't think it's a regret because it's a mistake on myself for not being ready to take chances.

I think there are lots of people who have the same fate as you. It's not just about apartments, but other problems.
I think it's not a mistake, but you're just out of luck.
don't regret too much, just make it a lesson to be better in the future and be able to see and measure every potential that exists.

Regrets should be our motivation as it is like a lesson to us that we need to do it and not to commit those mistake again. If you stay on regrets and just imagining it and having what ifs then you cant achieved it. It doesn't mean that you regret it as the price is higher right now doesn't mean you cant afford it now. Work hard even if the price is high to purchase it. Like Bitcoin a lot of us regret not buying early but now they are working hard to own one even if the price is high

Well who knows what will happen and will not. Regrets often come late. Realizing you missed half of your life for such a wonderful opportunity, you may then feel regretful or sad about it. But on the brighter side think that there are so many possibilities that could have happened. Some good, others may just be as bad as it could get. For example if such apartment was destroyed by the forces of nature or by some other reasons, would you then feel the same regret? Would you say "I missed the opportunity of my life?", certainly not. So the best thing about feeling regret is to not feel it at all and just let things be. Maybe you can find another instead of feeling like a loser because it will only add to your stress. cheer up there are so many good things in life to be happy about.

-snip- It's not easy to talk about life regrets in general because we are/were in quite different situations. To make this thread easier, we just focus on the regrets in finances. I believe many of them can be lessons to learn from. -snip-
I think almost everyone has regrets at some point in their life, especially when it comes to finances. Not buying or selling here or there or investing here or not investing there. Something like that just happens in life and you have to learn to deal with it. As the saying goes, you're always smarter afterwards.

As in your case with the apartment. You may regret your decision today, but who knows what might have happened if you had bought it. Maybe then something bad would have happened and you would regret the purchase.

Therefore, you have to see everything a little more relaxed and should not regret such decisions.  Wink
Oh, the woes of regret! We all carry them, do we not? Whether it's the missed opportunity of investing in Bitcoin or declining the job that could have turned our lives around, we all experience those "what-if" moments. But, truth be told, regrets are an inevitable part of life. We cannot always make the correct choices, and that is alright. After all, "to err is human, to forgive divine." So, instead of ruminating over what could have been, let us concentrate on the present and what it has to offer. In your instance, it is understandable why not purchasing the flat might make you regretful. But what good is it to brood over it? We cannot reverse time and alter the past, so let us look forward to what the future may hold. Maybe something even more excellent is just around the bend!

Nicely said!  I do agree with you that all of us have our own regrets.  Since these are the times when we cowardly back down without even trying or we are too aggressive that we made mistake by indulging into an unknown business venture.  But the good thing is that we must learn from these mistakes and move on hoping that we can properly decide what to do next time.  Moving one is also an essential factor of releasing our selves from the regrets of the mistakes we made in our financial aspect.

Because emotions overcome us and we don't want to lose or get upset for the result that's why we end up not grabbing those opportunity showing to us before. But what's good in that scenario is we learn from those experience and we still have a chance to change that then grab the other opportunity and maybe from that we may have another chance to change our life again.

There is no need to regret the past because it cannot be changed, and opportunities will always come in the future. It's important to learn from past mistakes and not let them repeat themselves in the future. Like everyone, I have made thousands of mistakes in the past, but I never want to think about them because they make me regret and feel worse about myself. Whenever I think about my past mistakes, I become stagnant and depressed, so I don't want to recall them. I like to think about the future and what I need to do to achieve my goals in the future.
