Well more than half of the General public doesn't!

If you read the write up:

http://bitforum.info/t/do-you-know-what-bitcoin-is-more-than-half-of-the-general-public-dont/224?u=angelo

WTF? How come bitcoin is still unknown to the common people?
Start ups after start ups have managed to raise millions and millions in funding but more than 50% of the common people doesnt know about it?

What do you think is lacking? What are bitcoin's shortcomings?

Education and Adoption.

Why not try this experiment at home.

Ask your mom, ask your dad, your aunt and uncle, your wife, your brother, your sister, your in laws ---see how many know about Bitcoin.

Well if I do that, that might be 0/7.. lol

The common man, the mainstream media, the average home maker doesn't know what Bitcoin is.

It's our jobs as people knowledgeable to educate or correct if it comes up, or bring it up matter of factly.  Use it where Bitcoin is accepted.  Support local Bitcoin businesses and join your local Bitcoin meetups and events.

That's why I created my sites, www.makingmoneyhoney.com and www.whatscryptocurrency.com. So that people can share it with those who don't know what Bitcoin is yet.

2problems :

Bitcoin is not easy to use if you don't know anything about how to properly use internet and new technology. And if you don't have any bitcoins, you need to get access to some.

Also people still have faith in their fiat currency in the west and use gold or an other fiat currency to save in developping countries.

Until Bitcoin is synonymous with PayPal, or Western Union, or Mastercard or Visa, etc...we have a long ways to go.

Right now, I'm praying that ApplePay really takes off, so that if the mainstream adopts NFC payments using their mobile phones, it'll be the right time for Bitcoin to peer it's head in, invade those Android phones that outnumber Iphones 3 to 1 and pounce...

That is very sad to say. 65% is a bit smaller and maybe not the real time figure.

They have dollars, visacard, Paypal and new ApplePay that have already meet their requirements to live, they don't care about what were happening on financial world, So they don't know about Bitcoin, and they won't.

It will take a lot of time, but probably good for it to spread gradually than too quickly. Example- Everyone that bought in on the hype when the Silk Road was taken down and hit the Mainstream Media, and purchased at $1000/BTC hoping to become overnight millionaires, then dumped all of it.

Even if there are lots of pieces on Bitcoin in the news, there is quite a lot of information in the news these days for people to digest, in multiple mediums- Radio, Internet, Television, etc.

I have close family member telling me it was a get-rich-quick scheme and was practically quite worried about me getting involved into it. Yeah, I would say most people are still oblivious about bitcoin existence.

65%? That is still questionable. Go to Malaysia and ask.. Ill say 100% doesnt know about bitcoin
But then go to a tiny little island off Australia called Tasmania and I'm guessing heaps of people, maybe more than half the population know about BTC.
Tassie is a state of Australia that someone tried to turn into the world capital of bitcoin last year.
This was publicised quite a lot my friends down there tell me, word gets around in a small town.

It's about the same if you ask people about the stock maket, most people have heard about it but how many of them really know how stocks are traded, not to mention all the backroom deals that are put in place to fuck the small invester over.
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer at the expence of those that don't do their homework and just follow what the news or papers say.

It's all the same with BTC, people want to get rich but they are not willing to put in the time to learn what the best investment is for them.
I've been into BTC for about 18 months now and i still call myself a newbie, there is just so much to get ya head around.
