United States government has always been against using bitcoin. What is the reason?
They say bitcoin is used for illegal transactions. What do they mean by illegal transaction? Do you think they mean buying and selling drugs?
I don't think they worry about this. We all know drugs are easily bought using fiat.
United States want to control every transaction. United States imposes sanctions against every country they want. Bitcoin is decentralized and anonymous and people and other governments can use bitcoin without any permission by United States. That's why they are against bitcoin.

People have been laundering their money from their drug business a long time before the invention of Bitcoins and cryptocurrencies and I will say that cash is the means that people use the most when it comes to their illegal activities, all the fuss about Bitcoins being used for illegal transactions is because the governments have no control over it.

Even if we give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they truly care bout citizens and would like to eliminate drugs (druggies after all are unproductive), simply banning cryptos won't help much. And they haven't done that yet, US is still more receptive to the idea of crypto compared to China or Venezuela.

As everyone has stated, it's easier to buy drugs using fiat, less of a money trail. The drug problem requires a different solution.

Last year I watched documentary about how CIA is importing drugs in US, but government is arresting and prosecuting all others who
are dealing and using it. Now US prisons are filled with nonviolent people, who only used drugs but they didn`t hurt anyone.
This drug war is not just in US, other countries are also in the same position. But I think it`s only marketing, governments and banks
take the profit in the end, so must be that they are organizing entire show.
All I know is that a lot of money is involved, and when there is a lot of money, then must be that government is involved somehow.

Some say that they want prisons full. If I remember correctly the US still use prison labor.

I`m familiar with that. Apparently private corporation are in collusion with judges who give maximum prison sentences
every time, some are caught doing that. Private corporations get money from the government for ever prisoner, plus they
earn from prison labor.
There are many documentaries about that matter, I watched few. That`s just not right, many ordinary people suffer a lot
and their families, just for some people to make a profit, huge profit, it`s a multi-billion business.

Does the US government worry about the influx of illegal drugs into the country? Yes.

But they worry about in the wrong way. The US government always has, and for the foreseeable future, always will treat drugs a certain way. Instead of treating drug addicts as addicts, they treat them as criminals. Instead of getting them the help that they need, they put them in prison cells for long periods of time for non violent possession charges. Now at this point in history, Americans don't support long mandatory minimums for non violent drug charges -- but many other groups support it.

Here are some of the people: Police Unions, Sheriffs Unions, Private Prisons, Public Prisons, Correctional Unions, Big Pharma, and so on and so forth.

At the moment, the US government should really legalize Marijuana (or, let the states decide instead of leaving their weird gray area for states that do legalize marijuana) and then they should lower the criminal jail time for people that are non violent drug offenders.

For the amount of money that we may to put these people into cells, we could truly get them help and get them back on track on their life. But instead, we let money get into the way of a horrible health issue that is ravaging the nation.

Banks are the biggest criminals when it comes to moving drugs and drug money. Look at HSBC and Wachovia. They get a slap on the wrist while Ross Ulbricht sits in prison for the rest of his life for giving people the freedom to buy whatever they please.

I'm in favor legalizing all banned substances. Let people do what they want with their bodies and suffer whatever consequences may come. BUT the moment you hurt, steal, kill someone because of a drug related need then the penalties become 10x stiffer than they are now. Give people freedom, punish them severely for abusing it.

Well yes, there's a major reason for the government to care about drugs. The government does have a major responsibility (and tries very hard) to stop the flow of drugs into this country from other countries around us, and from within through growing from people inside the country.

Do I think the government has done a good job with this: No.

The government has messed up the solutions for this. They've failed to notice that certain drugs are okay: Such as Marijuana, and that private prisons in the US want to keep prisoners within their confines for as long as possible

Non violent drug offenders shouldn't be going to jail for life, we should treat it like an addition and try to rehabilitate them.

Agreed, but the fact is it became easier to buy drugs when crypto has appeared.

So what? They are fighting the tools not the people, turning against inanimate objects to enforce their weak paper laws and making sure their fat asses are glued tightly to their chairs. When people invented pharmacies it also became easier to get painkillers and commit suicide by overdose. Wer pharmacies banned? No.
Bitcoin is just a tool. Most of the drugs around the world are sold for cash and nobody is banning it.

Yes indeed. Let them forbid to talk, because terrorists do it too.

It is not just the U.S. government is against Bitcoin, there are more other countries too that's against it. It is not just drugs that they are worried about since Bitcoin has already been used in the black market as a way of payment for any illegal activities/services they sell. It's been happening already in the past and this nothing new today. The government is trying to control it since it could also be used as a fund for any terrorist activities.

I don't think they worry about this. We all know drugs are easily bought using fiat.

The Trump administration seems fairly concerned about synthetic opioid trafficking. They recently blacklisted the cryptocurrency addresses of Chinese nationals sanctioned for smuggling them into the US.

I suspect most proceeds from this activity are laundered through banks, and that Bitcoin is somewhat of an afterthought to them. But it's obviously big enough to be on their radar. Remember Silk Road, AlphaBay and others? The Treasury department also blacklisted outputs associated with ransomware operators.

The SDN lists have always been aimed at banks and other financial institutions. They're just starting to include VASPs like Bitcoin exchanges in the mix now.

Not only drugs is the primary reason you know, there is also terrorism, and it's acts. Like purchasing weapons with BTC or supporting any cause that might get unstoppable in the future. All sorts of criminal acts, nationally and internationally. Also if somehow Bitcoin manage to be a mainstream currency then their proudly presented dollar wont have strong economic value so maybe they trying to stop Bitcoin's growth to avoid further damage.

What makes You think that?On the contrary, in many States bitcoin is even allowed to pay taxes.https://www.marketwatch.com/story/believe-it-or-not-some-americans-already-pay-their-bitcoin-in-taxes-2019-01-07And in General, most of the major investors are from America. And the fact that the Americans want to control every transaction, so who does not want to?).It is clear that any country, not necessarily America, wants to keep everything under control. The fact remains that this is very difficult to do at 100%.

I disagree that US is always against Bitcoin, the wrong picture was created when they react on Libra, and by saying some thing about this project they also need to mention Bitcoin as most powerful cryptocurrency.

Maybe you're referring to recently statement given by Brad Sherman, US Congressman who is saying that Libra will be "tool for drug dealers" and that cryptocurrency should be prohibited as it only serve for illegal activities. Even though President Trump himself says something similar, I doubt they can stop cryptocurrency to continue to thrive and conquer more and more markets.

You should know that the US has the highest number of crypto ATMs in world, and that Coinbase is US company - so crypto is very strong in that country. US is just want to keep US dollar as main reserve currency, and they been losing in that field for some time. Anything what constitutes a threat to that goal including Bitcoin is susceptible to attack, and this also include China&Russia which are an obvious example how sanctions and trade war can be used to achieve their own goals.

Drug is something that is just a threat on paper, you can buy it same as firearm at every corner, and it is almost like a constitutional right in US.

Even without Bitcoin countries have been moving (albeit slowly) to lower the USD dominance as "reserve" currency. This is not something the US can force others to do or not do, but they can pressure (especially with the likes of Trump) still things like the € exist to counter that.

Now that Bitcoin exists, this adds to the pool of coins countries can go to for reserves. Its optional, no one is forcing anybody to hold neither USD nor bitcoins, or Gold for that matter.

In general Trump is correct, but at the same time powerless. Yes the US is losing supremacy in various fields, but no his action do nothing to revert it, just annoy his own voters, but whatever the Americans should know whom to vote for better... Take for example China, he is waging a little war with them, but there is zero chance China will bend to his will. Trump never ever faced someone like the State of China, his business experience is simply inadequate and will prove in failure. China really doesn't care what Trump ever does, they'll laugh if trade stops entirely, as they have the rest of the world to trade with, while America, loses its cheap source of manufactured goods, that Trump cannot simply restart production inside America, because Americans aren't going to work at the low wages the Chinese do, and the few that would be willing to do it, are precisely the immigrants he wants out, so no.

Trump said that he is not a bitcoin lover but he allow his subordinates and community to used bitcoin that's why they have rules to follow if they enter in cryptocurrency. Also, yes bitcoin can be used for drug trade through the dark web and it already happen in our country and even in other countries. So, I believed U.S government worries also about drugs that's why they also find ways to prevent it.

Trump and the US government want to have power. Bitcoin excludes any manipulation because "big people" do everything possible to create the notoriety for Bitcoin. Drugs can also be bought for the US dollars, I think it's just a cover for the Cold War against Bitcoin

They want to have some share of every current transaction this is how I see it, so when they cannot get it done, instead of other countries are making some profits on it they want it to be banned to stop the circulation on their country and somehow minimize some new investors that want to buy bitcoins.

But bitcoin is now the popular investment in the whole wide world even the volatility can be brutal sometimes the enthusiast's investors don't really dare about that. most of them believe in the 1 Million dollars price so even if they only have 1 bitcoin they continue to hold it.

Right, I think they want to have control over bitcoin but sad to say with its nature being decentralized and is immune to government intervention so they can’t control it thus, instead of adopting it they want bitcoin to disappear but ruining its reputation.

United States are always are war with everyone, specially rouge nations, drug traffickers. But I don't think they really hate bitcoin that much, perhaps they just wanted to have a regulatory framework, but others see this as negative to the context of saying they are anti-bitcoin. If they really wanted to go against crypto, they can do that by imposing a total ban.

I suggest you watch Narcos (it was published on Netflix)

The US government had begun to fight drugs, which came to their country through Colombia for a time. And the US government has taken care of all its forces.

That is, if the US government were concerned about the crypto and drug abuse, they would have intervened so far.
