I'm pretty new to the scene but if I had to put a time frame on when I think BTC would hit the $200 mark it would be in the next couple years. Most people still haven't heard about it, word is still getting out and commerce are still looking at how it may be a genuine currency that is here to stay and how to go about adapting with it if at all. so my opinion is if it's going to hit that $200 plateau it will be a little while still, but I have also seen bitcoin was over the $200 mark for a short time so who knows.
There will be twenty-one million bitcoins after a few years. If these BTC21 million replaced just a small percentage of the transactions made with USD's, than bitcoins could be worth thousands of dollars.
I am convinced, though, that soon bitcoin users will decide to leave it behind to adopt the technologically superior currencies that will be available.
Perhaps, instead of investing so many resources in the bitcoin network, we should prioritize the development of the technology that makes digital currencies possible.
I am a believer in cryptocurrencies that implement proof-of-stake systems. I think the public will eventually realize that the security of cryptocurrency networks does not require computational power (like proof-of-work). Of course, the Peer2PeerCoin (PPC) and NovaCoin (NVC) have flaws, but maybe they have fewer flaws than bitcoin...
