Humanity is a life form. Like other life forms, we impact our environment. We also impact the evolution of other life forms on the planet. If you were going to compare us to something, we might be more like ants or termites.

I also Immediately thought of The Matrix when i seen the title for this thread. Here are the words of the infamous Agent Smith himself...

“I´d like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species, and I realized that you’re not actually mammals.

Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way can survive is to spread to another area.

There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus.

Human beings are a disease-a cancer of this planet. You’re a plague, and we, are the cure.”

Legendary words. Sadly I agree with him to some extent. We are the parasites of almost every resource and animal on the planet. That said, id rather be a human than anything else.  Cheesy

It's an interesting way to look at people but I guess we are similar to viruses for the Earth. Because the doings of people destroy the world. And viruses also destroy living organisms from the inside.

Yes , I think human is the root to destroy earth. It is like a virus which spread along the edge of earth.
For me i think it`s because our community right now is overpopulated and maybe the government cannot controlled due of having a higher percentage of young women getting pregnant at the adolescent age. Humans like us cannot be controlled and it keeps on getting our community bigger, people should probably used the family planning in order to minimized the population.

Humans are the Earth's precious and greatest gem; at the same time, Earth's greatest threat --- and yes, somehow, humans are just like virus for the Earth. If we are going to base man's act affecting the Earth, we will realize how rude, abusive, and careless we are. Everything we hold and in everywhere we go, things get destroyed. It is like we infect that area and then afterwards, if it is already infected, useless, and meaningless, we tend to let it go, or abandon it and find another place to suck and gets its nutrition. We are like virus that's epidemic and need to be terminated for someone to be cured. However, if we choose to bwxome a virus, we hould be agood one that balnce everything and not destructs anything.

Not humans. Only the people who promote modern vaccines which make people sicker in other ways.

Cool

I remember the dialog from Agent Smith in matrix movie he stated that humans goto a region and colonize it until every recourse is consumed and then they move to a different place. and the same pattern is followed by the viruses around us. So are we a species whose behavior is similar like virus or it makes viruses a supreme living/non living organisms.

Lol. This is a funny but an interesting question.
From your perspective or from the movie the matrix, what do you think? Anyway, you have a point. We have similarities to a virus.
We multiply, consumed everything , we destroyed our place and were intelligent species. Much like the Virus. But, i personally believe were a bit different from a Virus. How? Because were not the best at everything but we try to be. Even if it seems all hopes were lost we chose to do the right thing. we have so much more. We have different choices and a Virus doesnt have that, they were program only to multiply and destroy everything.

Yes. But maybe we’re more like bacteria rather than viruses. It's just my opinion.

I understand why some people might think we are, but we're all still part of nature, technically. Environment always changes through the eons, and without that change the current species wouldn't be there. If dinosaurs hadn't died out, we wouldn't be here.

not necessarily,

you could also consider humans as being part of the earts evolution, so it can spread its biosphere to other planets.

because only humans build spaceships on earth

Your post is great, I've been thinking a lot about your post, and I agree with your view that humans are also creatures that grow and die, but are creatures Supreme. And I think it's like a fast-paced virus that can lose control, a virus that destroys the habitat is using it depleted. But there are also some who are more advanced (evolutionary viruses) to look for better things for the planet's environmental life.

Right now almost 80% of the world's surface area is under human occupation, which leaves less than 20% to all the other species. And this 20% is also encroached by humans almost everyday, resulting in further shrinkage.

We are a plague. More like a multi-cell bacteria than a virus.

Yeah but we also like care about earth in general because it'd threaten our existance. So like parasites?

I think this topic might in a way be relevant with the Fermi paradox/Great Filter, on why we can't find any aliens.
At some point, we get too advanced and basically make ourselves extinct.

I think it's relevant because it might be, in a sense, biology, where species who reach a "dangerous" level of intelligence, exhaust the resources(of the earth in this case).
A bit like how there are animals that can regulate and avoid having children(not a concious decision), when the flock is too big.
Any species maybe reaches a certain dangerous point where we basically are a virus in terms of damaging for the ecosystem as a whole(animals and nature dying etc),
and then it's biologically programmed that we make ourselves extinct when we reach a certain point (where we are "too bad of a virus")!

I guess technically you can say that we are like viruses since we affect every part of the earth in a negative way. Maybe not in a negative way for us, but in a negative way for plants and animals and the chemical composition that they require. Just everything as a whole.

Just in case no one loves you, I love you 3000.
we a species whose behavior is similar like virus or it makes viruses a supreme living/non living organisms.
Human behavior is similar to virus due to its capability to explore and think beyond every border to help its survival. If you would check, we are not different from any plant virus or any animal virus, we tend to exhaust our available natural resources for us to survive; we will do anything to sustain life, which is inevitable for species. The difference on viruses is that they have some cure(some will have) or they have some kind of killers to turn down its populations, that would help its host prevent more damaging effects, while humanity do not have any threat(natural killer) that could help decrease its populations, a problem our host is facing right now. That is why I think we can be classify as supreme virus.

I have always agreed with that statement.  I used to think that globally everyone could get behind the idea that we need to change our thought patterns and consumption trends, but I don't see it anymore. What is far more likely is that like many Sci-Fi series show is that we are going to spread to other planets or natural satellites to colonize and consume.

I also see another factor coming into play that distinguishes us from a virus. Thanks once again to our continued over consumption of goods, this time antibiotics, we are creating the planets cure for us in the form antibiotic resistant infections and illnesses.

I guess you could also argue that we are some type of super virus, as I don't know of a virus that will kill/consume itself (same species/race) as a found resource in a new host.
