I've bought my first android tablet with btc a month ago and sold it here for cash. I'm planing to use bitcoins as much as I can but here in Serbia, options are minimal. I just wanted to see if I can buy something via btc and I can, yay! now I'm just holding it  hoping for the new spike in btc price.

I use my bitcoin all the time, mostly in smal amounts.

Like what amount and for what?
Like 1$ on humble bundle, bitcoin auctions and some other stuff.

What is the equivalent of $1 in btc?
It always changes, go to an exchange and see.

I occasionally do in fact spend some of my coins to purchase some digital goods, such as Steam games and gift cards. However, I do try to save up a bit.

Yes of course. Main reasons are trading, gambling, paying VPN and buying games online

I spend about 0.50 BTC a week on food and occasionally I also buy some gifts or precious metals.

Wow, thats a lot of BTC. I only use BTC to only buy "nice stuff" online.

I think most people try and save it up, instead of spend and spend.

This is definitely the case with some people, although we still see many BTC orders.

I use small amounts almost all the time. Some of the things I spend BTC on are:

Humble Bundles
Various tech/electronics
Newegg
VPN/Hosting subscriptions
Some charities that accept BTC donations

As I cannot really mine BTC, I get BTC from where I can and I use those quite small amounts to buy altcoins.
Unfortunately I missed the BTC train, but maybe I get lucky with those ^^.. Does this count?

It doesn't. Using BTC = buying actual stuff, not other cryptos.
This is what bitcoin was designed to do. If you do not spend your bitcoin then you will have no use for it which means bitcoin will have no value
