Do you know his real name or do you recognize his face? I do and I know he doesn't like for his privacy to be violated, so I stopped talking about it few years ago when I saw that staff removed the posts with his name mentioned. If he has decided to retain his privacy, let us honor and respect that. Though I do love to hear from him from time to time, know his inputs on several topics about the crypto currencies in general.
Do you know that majority of the users of bitcointalk used a nickname in their user, so if i should know the real name of theymos i will keep it confidential, because many people will draw nearer to him because of favorites, and i believe that many people who is registered users of bitcointalk that came from his country have no access to him, and i believe that is one of the factors that continue to keep the secret of the forum intact without been reviewed or exposed.

Why don't you ask him yourself?
It's just one message away and I am sure he will tell you the truth Smiley

Ummm... I thought about that, and I decided to try first to obtain my answer from the community, if possible. I believe that, in his position, theymos receives dozens, if not hundreds messages on a daily basis (remember, he also works on Reddit). I can't imagine how his inbox looks like. Furthermore, I believe he is also very busy everyday... I have to admit, when I PMed him I was lucky enough to receive replies in about 75% of occasions. Some times I had to send him a second PM asking him if he noticed the earlier one I sent. So yes, I am grateful that he replied to almost all my PMs.

And, by knowing this situation, it is possible to (1) not receive any reply, if he considers the subject to be of a very low importance; (2) not receive any reply, in case he won't even notice the PM, given the probably huge number of PMs here receives.

Then of course, in case I won't find any answer from the community, I will actually try to watch again all those documentaries. If not even by doing it I will find my answer, then I will consider PMing him too... But I would not feel comfortable to disturb him with something which may be of a very low importance for him...

Joke aside, I know Roger Ver mentioned Theymos a lot in his interviews, so it's possible they made some documentary to discredit him, maybe while Roger joined forces with Faketoshi CSW.

I hope he did not go that far...

On the other hand, Bitcointalk forum has been mentioned many times in documentaries, and I think that is more important.

That's a great list. I've watch some of these and never had time to watch others, but they've been on my list for some time. I don't agree with everything said in them but they give you a certain perspective, makes your opinion stronger about certain facts. Especially liked all the silk road movies.

Yeah, privacy matters, don't post identity related information if you don't want to get banned.

I doubt he cares that we talk about this and you shouldn't be afraid of being banned for it. He's a popular person and it's obvious people will have questions and will be interested in seeing him on camera. When you google his nickname, his real name comes up, so deleting posts that contain it is a waste of time, same as banning people who mention it.

Thanks OP for listing these documentaries. I would love to watch them not because I care about who Theymos is, I just think I will learn something new from these documentaries. As for those ranting about doxxing, it been said the person in question has always kept his identity open. I hope this documentaries featured bitcointalk because I think the forum needs more exposure.

Hehe, I just realized now that, while trying to find a movie starring theymos, I also shared some very interesting materials for those interested about Bitcoin at large. I can grant you, all documentaries are worth watching. If I may suggest you, I'd recommend to start with Bitcoin: Shape the Future, continue with The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin, then Deep Web. Then you can pick the rest in any order you wish Smiley

If you are so interested in such materials, I can also recommend you some more movies / documentaries, these ones being about Ross Ulbricht, Julian Assange, WikiLeaks and Edward Snowden. Again, all are worth watching.

Silk Road Case - The Real, Untold Story - documentary about the injustice suffered by Ross Ulbricht during Silk Road trial

Ithaka - a documentary showing Julian's struggle to avoid extradition to US
Mediastan: A Wikileaks Road Movie - a WikiLeaks very own documentary - full movie
Risk - a WikiLeaks documentary, directed by Laura Poitras (a friend of Julian Assange) - full movie
The Fifth Estate - a great movie about WikiLeaks
We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks - yet another documentary about WikiLeaks
Underground: The Julian Assange Story - another movie about Julian, depicting his early career

Citizenfour - documentary about Snowden, starring himself
Snowden - fiction movie about Snowden, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt

I hope this helps.

Now instead of talking about documentaries I have to talk about (denying) doxxing. Jesus!
Well, to be honest, I have read about your request much eariler and watched the story develop.
A movie or documentary can easily have its entire cast published. As real names. And this can easily end up with doxxing.

Oh well, that makes sense a bit. I did not think about that...

In any case, I believe that if theymos actually had a - how is it called? - cameo ( Cheesy) inside a movie, he appeared with his nym, not with his name. I am sure that from all those which ever heard about theymos, 99% know only the nym theymos and maybe (only maybe!) 1% know his name. And that 1% may be a big number. Most likely, if you'd tell his name to those knowing the nym theymos, they will just nod their heads, without understanding about who you are talking.

Following this idea, I am also certain that, if theymos ever appeared in a documentary (after all, my friend could have been wrong, leading me to live with this impression in vain), then he appeared in credits as theymos. If his name were there nobody would know who is the one they watched, lol (or almost nobody).

Does it count as doxxing if the personal information is already published on the internet? I would think not.

Imho it is. As long as the person didn't reveal his identity and it's not obvious (and this may be debatable too) who it is, finding out the identity (even from public sources) is imho doxxing simply because what is maybe easy-to-find for you, may not be as obvious for many others.
...But I may be wrong.

If theymos is very keen on keeping any personal data private and may have erroneously revealed some details they would prefer buried, it would be wrong to chase down and reveal those details. But if he is not so keen about it, then I do not see anything wrong in being curious to know what documentary he starred in.

By how I know you, I am certain that this is not your intention, but still, it can get to that.

For now this topic looks like an incredible listing of Bitcoin related movies, but, no offense, but I would not have too many hopes to get answers to... that question...

I PMed theymos telling him that people are trying to dox him

My finger is itching me to start deleting your posts. Where have you seen anything about doxxing here?

I can't show my face around here anymore

That's probably best idea.

OP you also started stated the year documentary was released.

I am not sure I'm following. What "year documentary"? And what is a "year documentary"? And where did I state that anyway?

So that it would be easy for those who have watched to tell you the title.

I was hoping for that...

"The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin" which was film in (2024).

This is certainly not a 2024 movie, lol. How, in the world, could it be released in 2024 if we are in 2023? How could you have watched it? =)))
In any case, this is a movie from 2014:

You can also get the full documentary in www.bitcoindoc.com.

Thank you for the link. It's also available on Youtube, at the link I shared in OP.

So, in any case, have you watched this documentary? Is this the one starring theymos?

Concerning the real name of theymos, I believe he likes the anonymity of the name, even though anyone  knows the real name  because he is close relative or friends, it is not advisable to do that let the bear of the name do that. It is his identity.

Jesus, where did all this insanity come from?! Who ever talked about mentioning theymos' identity anywhere?! This topic was only about finding in which documentary he appears, not for writing his name here and there.

Seriously, where do all these ideas come from?!

I used to laugh at such posts, but when you read at least a dozen of them every day, you realize that you only have two options - ignore or report to moderator button. In any case, I hope you find what you are looking for Wink

It seems an entire hysteria started yet I don't know from where nor why. I think I'll start deleting posts soon, lol. One talks about doxxing, one talks about a movie from 2024, which he watched already, one writes a 100+ words phrase, competing with Victor Hugo... I don't understand what I have done so wrong to have all these people replying in my topics (facepalm). Now instead of talking about documentaries I have to talk about (denying) doxxing. Jesus!

I would still suggest you not to disclose personal information here, maybe try investigation board, because it's hidden from google and scrapers.

I don't know where you see someone trying to expose someone? All the information in this thread has been publicly available for years, and anyone who knows how to use the forum search engine or any public search engine can find this information. This nonsense about someone deleting every post or thread in which someone's name is mentioned is pure nonsense, because the thread I quoted has existed since 2011 and do you really think that the admin would not have removed it by now if he considered it necessary?

In addition, he shares his first and last name with dozens of other people, and most people who would like to investigate further would get stuck at that step.

OP you also started stated the year documentary was released. So that it would be easy for those who have watched to tell you the title. Like me I have not seen theymos but from the documentary films present by OP and I watched them on YouTube and the presentations of the films I will say it is "The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin" which was film in (2024). You can also get the full documentary in www.bitcoindoc.com.

I remember back in the old days, if you were to write his real name on a post, a bot would detect and delete the post, maybe staff were trolling me back then. Funny, I PMed theymos telling him that people are trying to dox him. I can't show my face around here anymore. I only wrote 2 PMs in 6 years, one to resign as a m source, one just a few hours ago.

I would still suggest you not to disclose personal information here, maybe try investigation board, because it's hidden from google and scrapers.

Have you ever heard of dot? You know, it's a punctuation sign, graphically represented like this: .. It is used for separating sentences.

By looking at what you wrote, at your 132 words phrase, I am wondering if you wanted to compete with longest phrase from literature, which appears in Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, this one having 823 words.

Should Theymos get too nervous about his name mentions on articles

Why should he?

everyone can come up with something new to claim being Theymos or use his name on different occasions for their personal reasons either in appreciating the value and weigh in the name or to decieve people they are the bearer

... unless he starred the respective documentary at his own will.

but we should know that Theymos will never appreciated his real privacy being violated by people

Who and how violated theymos' privacy?

no one knows his identity in person

Since he is a public figure and he actually said what Lucius mentioned, respectively:

At some point I might want to take credit for my Bitcoin activities, so I don't want to use a fake name. In fact, I would list Bitcoin Block Explorer on my résumé if I was applying for a relevant job this year, since that's the biggest and most public programming project I've ever done.

Using a non-obvious pseudonym might be a good idea for people who want to be anonymous. It adds some apparent credibility, I think.

then how can you come up saying no one knows his identity?

any other is a guess and anyone can claim being Theymos just as many have been claiming they are Satoshi

Are you just eagerly trying to fill your quote for the campaign you are enrolled or what's the reason of this ridiculous post which has only one dot within 132 words?

First, you say that it is impossible to find any information, and then you post a link that leads directly to the identity of the admin?

Lol, I also noticed that and it made me laugh a lot =)))

In any case, I just remembered that there is one more documentary about Bitcoin which I also watched and I added to OP:

And I think this is the one... I remember this is the most recent I watched and it intrigued me the way it was filmed: is has a shadowy narrator, talking with a distorted voice, this being a hacker, if I remember well. At some point he describes how he made "his first sack of money" or something like that. And it was even more interesting, as it was the only Japanese documentary about Bitcoin. Maybe this is the one I talked about with my friend... However, I can not be sure. But if nobody knows, if nobody actually watched these documentaries, then I guess I'll have to watch them all again, one by one. But I'll start with this one.

In fact, it is not his real name but the name he uses on the bitcoin.org website, no matter how much you search for it, no information will come up. Because he has hidden all the information from the website. Moreover, it is better not to openly discuss such reputable users like them in the forum.

First, you say that it is impossible to find any information, and then you post a link that leads directly to the identity of the admin? However, I don't think it's such a security problem because @theymos identity has been known for a long time and he never hid it, and long ago he explained his reasons for not wanting to do it.

At some point I might want to take credit for my Bitcoin activities, so I don't want to use a fake name. In fact, I would list Bitcoin Block Explorer on my résumé if I was applying for a relevant job this year, since that's the biggest and most public programming project I've ever done.

Do you know his real name

Actually, yes. Or I know what is believed to be his name. As you can see, NicNacCoin also posted a Twitter link containing this information.

or do you recognize his face?

Actually that friend of mine recognized him in one of those documentaries, but I don't know if he managed to do it because theymos' name appeared somewhere during the documentary or because he actually knew how theymos looks like.

All I remember is that I watched all those documentaries and, at some point, I was talking to my friend about one of them. It's just I don't know about which one we were talking. And he said something like "this documentary is even more interesting, as theymos also appears inside the footage".

And I am sure that it's one of those documentaries because I did not watch any other Bitcoin documentary excepting those ones (and I know that because I wrote their names down at some point). So it's one of them.

I asked this question to avoid watching all six movies again, as it would take a lot of time (especially if, considering my infamous unluck, I'm sure that the movie where theymos appears will be the last one I'll watch from all those 6 documentaries).
