The problem would be getting a person or person(s) to spend time sifting through 7,000 ANN topics.
And yeah.. that is simply ridiculous there is THAT many.
Things have gotten waaaay out of hand.
And what do we see ?
Oh..
Well..
This NEW coin is the ONE !
Yup..
This new Zcash Coin (shitcoin #7,102) is teh legit'z !11111ONE

8k 9k 10k 100k 1 zillion.. you all won't stop ..you need yur ROI'z  Roll Eyes

Anyway as i said 100 times before.. sorry i got side tracked by the FUD  Grin
Ideas around here are great and all but we have a core principle in play.. i assume deliberately.
Freedom.
Whether it is abused or not is another matter.
Is theymos interested in setting up drastic new measures to police crypto ? I highly doubt it.

The problem would be getting people willing to work for free or theymos paying out of pocket
to sift through every coin that comes along.. and WHO is chosen to do the influential job ?
That would trigger a shit load of drama because key people would have abilities that could be abused.
..and they would be.

Then you have the actual definitions of what is each type of coin.
A grey area would be hit a lot causing more drama.

Really we are stuck with how things are.

The only thing i see changing the Altcoin landscape is tough govt regulations that cause arrests.
That would curb a lot of the bullshit..

Otherwise it's business as usual.. shit'coining for profitz.
You all make money off them and so they are created.
Defining one ?
Unless you can crack open Butters head and analyze his brain and see proof of intent we have to speculate.
In other words was a major factor in the development of Ethereum for profits on Exchanges ?
Is that a major reason why it was created ? If so ? yes it is in fact a scam.
Coins created for fun or profit are scammy.

Currencies are not a joke and they are not to be created simply for trading on Poloniex either.
I have long said i would reconsider if we have some tough regulations sort of like how there is in the stock markets.

These are not penny stocks or businesses or even decentralized currencies.
When you put shit on Github or Poloniex or Cryptsy or Coinbase or hell even this very forum you are now US govt compliant.. there is no way to chant free market anymore then people.
Game Over.
And since they are all ICO's or another variant of premining bullshit they are in no way decentralized.
And the penny stocks idea is bullshit because there is no laws governing them.
Who in Crypto is our Martha Stewart arrested for insider trading ?

These are not businesses either..
They are scammy greedy name changing shady little assholes hoping to make a buck who keep pumping out "Schemes" for profit.
They mod a coin base slap on some new graphics and if your real lucky get a new gimmick.

It's a farce.

If you all want this charade to improve you are unfortunately going to have to embrace legal regulations for crypto.
When i started i was 100% against this idea.. i too was rebellious and chanted free market.
But look around people..
Through out all of human history if we are given the freedom to ruin something.. we do.
This is why laws are created.
Someone had to go and make a law saying hey, doing bad things are bad.

Although I have never been into altcoins and that's why never cared to take a look at this section of the forum but have recently developed some interest in altcoins too but still I rarely check altcoin announcement section.

well they could maybe put 2 categories
• altcoins forked on existing cryptocurrencies
• cryptocurrencies with an original code base

because mine would not fit into any of your 4 categories :/
since it doesn't use PoS/PoW nor is a metacoin

I figured most would say no.. it's been flooded so what do you "dev's" expect ?
And most saying yes are dev puppet accounts guaranteed.

I am also the only one pointing out how this is a META forum related topic.
Should i report it so it gets moved ? nah.. it's interesting LOL  Shocked

PS:
Thank the morons at Coindesk for posting their news story "why we need all the altcoins we can get"
And in case you all are new here or forget.. the scene supported mass cloning willingly.
I know i argued by myself pretty much with them every step of the way.
The guys that ran Cryptsy and all the users here for example argued it.. defending shitcoin'ing.

Of course you all forget LOL

I have more class & integrity than the whole scene does combined.

The concept of market saturation is lost on retard investards here.
They think the more you make the more valuable they become HAHHAHAHA

I'm an active trader so yes I am a regular visitor, there's a lot of money to be made in the altcoin, but it so tricky,so need a good knowledge to spot scam and shitcoin to good coins, remember some good coins like ethereum litecoin and doge are in the altcoin section.

I like to keep track of the ongoings of altcoin movements and the markets to know when to trade. Doesnt really matter if an altcoin is shit or not if I can flip it then why not ?

I don't think splitting it into 4 is such a good idea. Imagine how long it will take to go through and sort all those threads anyway. I do understand why you say that though it is pretty difficult to keep track of what's going on.

HODLing is an art, not just a word...
Nah, i don't care about it enough to go and waste my time by checking their announcement and see the same topics over and over again.

With so many coins being created maybe it's time to sub divide that page into different sections.

- Long term PoW blockchains.
- Short term PoW -> PoS blockchains
- ICOs -> PoS or PoW blockchains
- ICOs -> meta-coin tokens on top of another blockchain

i liked the idea of dividing that section into some sub categories. but the problem is the categories. for example ICOs are going to end which board will you put them in? and besides the sub-boards will be filled with the same thing again. now we have multiple boards with shitcoins in it.

however if we could come up with a better categories it would be good.

guess who's back
I used to check it in the past but now I'm not even bothering , there is only one alt that I care about and my aim is to make more btc by using that alt
in general I'm subscribed to many youtube channels , and when there is a new alt or project coming on they usually highlight it so no need to keep checking the forums with 99.99999% shitcoins  Smiley

Every day I see atleast 1 new cryptocoin being created and posted in that section, it's a fight for the first page 24/7, you have to go back page after page because the new crap is pushing whatever reading material there is down the Topic page list.

It is a good idea in itself but who is one to judge how long a coin will live for or even succeed, that would also require a Dead coins subtopic but then people will just look there to reboot coins and the process repeats.

Yeah I check it out often enough, they really only need two categories to sort it out, shitcoins and non-shitcoins, 99% of them can go into the shitcoin section, it would save me some time wading through pages of trash to find what I want.

If you separate alts into "shit coins" and "non-shit coins", lots of "shit coin" developers might decide to sue you for defamation Cheesy Cheesy

I at least browse through the threads and read - just as I do in most other sections. I probably haven't grown to be as cynical as the rest of you lot, due to my tender age in cryptocurrency haha.

I must say that the more I read the whitepapers, the more I believe a lot of them are deliberately written in confusing technobabble. Very few address a need, most seem to just create issues and claim a solution.

All I know is that I know nothing.
No, i am no longer checking the announcement topics!

because i no more have any interest in what the owner of the altcoins has to say. instead i am only interested in bitcoin in first place and i am interested in the charts and orderbooks of those altcoins, if i like them i invest and dump as soon as possible and if don't see what i like i stay the hell away.

I still check at "Announcement Section" from time to time for some altcoins. Not diretly going to ANN section but from exchanges. From exchanges, I check the coin price then if I want ti buy that coin, I click the coins thread and it is link to ANN section. From there, I read the community inputs as an additional reference for decission making.

I'm into very few altcoins as it is, and I wouldn't be able to keep up with the torrent of shitcoin announcements even if I wanted to.  I have that section on ignore, along with a bunch of others.  It's all garbage to me.

I also stopped ages ago, it is either incredibly long threads that have taken on a life of their own, or sh!tcoins.
I couldn't name the vast majority of the coins announced now, and that is probably a good thing to be honest!

No i stopped looking in the ANN section probably 2 years ago.

And group them up as the first option in the ANN section then move the rest to the scam section.

Done.

Where is my ring of blades...
good question and I will watch this topic to come back later and see what others have said.

but for me, I used to watch that board (the announcements) and read the altcoins different pages to see what is going on with the development and other things like releasing a new roadmap, a wallet, some other application,... but after a while I gave it up because there is not much to see there in my opinion apart from bad projects one after another that only exist to get pump and dumped and you can never see pump and dump on their announcement thread!

traders so we can verify what are those shitcoins. And, all of us can be
aware of.
