Does it take away posting time limit and restrictions like that or is it just a status thing?

no it dosen't . your Activity (which you have 2 now) do.
Are you seriously planning to donate just because to take the limits off ? It's so simple mate , just be more active and in couple of weeks you won't feel the restriction anymore .
or if you are that rich  , just buy a Hero account or something . you wont need to wait at all .

I don't believe that a donator/VIP status affects posting restrictions. However I do think it would be a good idea to allow someone to "donate" to the forum to remove or greatly reduce the posting restrictions as this would cause the donator to have "skin in the game" as an incentive not to scam/spam

Send your donation to me and I'll give you super fast posting access for long time. Cheesy

But in all seriousness, just wait it out. Or, you can always buy an established account from account sellers.

Relations between your activity level and posting time limit:
What are the time limits on posting and the levels??
I know 360 seconds are for new people like me, but was wondering if there was break down somewhere on this.

Code:
waittime = 360;
if(activity >= 15)
        waittime = (int)(90 - activity);
if(activity >= 60)
        waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity));
if(activity >= 100)
        waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);

So you just need to withstand the annoying 360s limit until you get 15 activity, and the limit will then be just 75s.

Why? Are you considering donating just to bypass them?  Cheesy. The posting restrictions go down significantly the more activity you get so you don't have to bare them for long anyway.

Donating is not a way to buy a right to spam from start and/or avoid "the fuss" of being a useful, constructive, helpful addition to our community; even, if you have tons of BTC to dump off. I can understand the reason you ask such a question since is a tipical n00b one in every forum across the Internet; however, to take away (gradually) time limit and restrictions you shall increase in rank by contributing to community. Donating is a way to show appreciation for the existence of the Bitcointalk forum by contributing to its expenses. Donators, receive, as an appreciation token to their gesture: a special title (a sub-rank), a colored "who's online" color, access to an exclusive forum section (both Donators and VIPs) and the ability to create a custom title for yourself (VIP status only).

If you donate 10 BTC, you can get a special "Donator" title and a green "who's online" color. If you donate 50 BTC, you get VIP status and the ability to create a custom title for yourself. Both Donators and VIPs also get access to an exclusive forum section. You must contact theymos prior to donating if you want to take advantage of this offer: you will be given a unique donation address. See this forum topic for more details.
