It is interesting that so many people here talk about buying bitcoin and holding it for next 5, 10, 20 years, as they expect the price will be much higher by then.

At the same time, I am guessing most of them would say that bitcoin is a currency rather than an asset.
Yet the thinking seems to be to treat it more like an asset (like gold), then a currency.
It's not often we hear people saying they are going to buy US dollar, or Indian Rupee of Chinese Yuan and hold it for next 10 years, because they think its value will appreciate.

AHEM.. 10 Year $US Government Bonds are what now exactly??

Government bonds are certainly an asset class.

The interest on government bonds issued by the countries with the top rating is actually quite low these days (in some cases even negative) and I think people invest in these bonds for security they offer, rather than for the profit opportunities.

When i hold bitcoins I'm obviously happy for the price to rise.... It's a different story with buying bitcoins though.

why you should be happy anyway, because the price is increase and there is profit to be made, you should have said if the price don't rise immediately...

It does nothing to me, im too used at seeing my portfolio move. As another long term investor here, the only thing that would make my heart start beating really fast is if Bitcoin went 10K+, then that would be some life changing money, as of right now, it's a good extra savings, but nothing worth losing sleep for.

Thanks for all the replys guys.
It's interesting to get all your different views and opinions as I am yet to meet anyone who is into bitcoin.
From now on I am not going to worry about the price,  I am just going to invest a set amount each month whether the price be $10 or $10,000 and treat it as  my pension.
I think in the end I will be on top.

If you stick to your plan, you will be very rich in 20 years time. It is quite difficult to be so disciplined.

You need patience to become rich. Nothing comes instantly.

The solution is to buy bitcoins and hold.  Never spend them.  Don't gamble on silly 'dice' sites.  If we all do that then the price will skyrocket.

Yeah, and then we all sell it and hence what happens? The first to sell wins and the rest will loose. the key is to use bitcoin, to pay in bitcoin and to get paid in bitcoin...

There will be no one will sell first. It is a continuous process for next 100 years. Even the one who buys bitcoin for the price some $10k also will get profit by selling or using it. Holding bitcoin is the key for price acceleration. Hold till supply of bitcoin goes lower than demand.

If you want to have a healthy market, you need a mix of buyers and sellers, and people with different timeframes: some speculators, some long-term investors, some people doing the arbitrage between various currencies and exchanges.

There will also always be people with different views on where the fair price should be at the moment - that's what we need to.

That's how most financial markets work and it ensures that there is always someone to buy from you when you want to sell.

My heart sinks when then price drops... Dont care for the price to raise, for I use bitcoin so dont want value of it to drop, at least stay the same. Like on purse you get a discount, so the heart sinks when value drops...

Sometimes, it is good to trade. However, we are not big whales. We usually sell low and buy high.

Well at some point I regret selking my coins immediately whenever I see the price is continuously rising  It's not selfish bro. Just buy the bitcoins you want to have or earn it then just hold, as everyone else would say. Then wait for the price to rise more.
