A little shocked that the project focused on making a farm in the country I live. And were shocked more upon knowing that the goal is only around 400USD or 20K PHP, which if tractors and equipments would be bought, might never be enough. A few questions that I still want raise, are the Taxes and the labor fees to those who would make this possible physically are considered in setting the collection goal? Since it is already completed, I think it is not that bad to make a "hard cap" like for the donation.

Good job btw. I think this is a nice way to gather enough resources to create something that would create more money and of course for the people who need it and would work for it.

Well, with a Gross operating budget of about $400 .. I will not expect these guys to have a commercial farm with tractors and equipment. This will be a small scale "hand-to-mouth" operation that will feed about 3 families, if they are lucky. I should say hard manual labor will be the direction this project will be going.

Something that bothers me is the decision making .... You run into difficulty and you decide to use the existing funds to run for the new operation and you spend that to buy food. I know it is a survival decision and most would have done the same, but still...

Have you tried any of the Social support organizations in your country?

Unfortunately, no new pictures could be made so far because I just got an update recently, that our friend had a broken phone, so he could not send any pictures.
He PMed me a few days ago again and made a short update:

Our previous rice was harvested recently but it wasn't much because of storms and bad conditions.
He sent me a picture about what was harvested:

And new rice was already planted also a few days ago (but not from our donations as far as I know):

So, I'm very happy for all your donations and despite a lack of updates, it brought some sacks of rice to harvest.  Smiley

After preparing the farm (removing old plants), rice has been seeded and we are waiting for it to grow.  Smiley

I am glad to see how the farm is progressing, and I hope that the harvest will be good because, given the fact that food prices are constantly rising, anyone who produces something of their own will survive easier. My small donation has been sent, I hope someone else will share a few more satoshi for a good cause Smiley
Many thanks for your donation!
I've also donated 75$ and now, we should be ready to start.  Smiley

Today, all remaining plants have been removed :

Planting rice seedlings should be the next step now and we have enough funds to do it.  Smiley

Our farm is now supplied by water again and our farmer has prepared our farm meanwhile by removing old plants:

I've also received a video from him but it's recorded sideways and I had no chance to rotate it, so if you want to view it, I have uploaded it on Imgur: https://i.imgur.com/VZmJWDN.mp4

As far as I know, the farm needs to prepared a second time to remove old plants again and after it, we can start planting rice seedlings.
Unfortunately, our fund is still lacking 100$. If nobody donates, I'm allocating the missing fund during the next days but hopefully, we can collect it from donations.  Smiley
If you want to donate even a small amount, you can send some BTC here: 3Cii92orneregUnho24tRerWFEGqVywW2b  Smiley

Before starting to prepare our farm, we have bought some more food:

Preparing our farm should start in a few days and funds are enough to remove old plants. After it, we need to reconsider how much funds are left and how to proceed. But buying and planting rice seedlings shouldn't require much money.

Hello and sorry for such a long time and no update.

Unfortunately, shortly after my last update, the water supply was shut down and government tried to repair it. But we needed water to start our work, so we waited until it's fixed. It took a long time to be fixed but fixing will be finished in a few days.
Additionally, a big Corona wave was hitting their town and people were affected. So we decided to buy some food from our funds:

We will start preparing the farm when we have water again but because we have bought some food, we need some more money (around 100$). To get enough funds again.
Donations please to: 3Cii92orneregUnho24tRerWFEGqVywW2b

I have already donated a little bit and 100$ aren't much, so we should get enough funding to compensate our food purchases.

We will start using machines to prepare our farm very soon by removing old plants.

Currently, our farm is still how it was after harvesting:

It should take 4 or 5 days to prepare it again.
After preparing the farm, we will start to plant rice.  Smiley

Much appreciated, that's very generous.  Smiley

I've already PMed him and he will arrange to get the machines for preparing the farm and buy some rice seedlings since we have collected enough funds now.

I'll make updates here documenting our progress.

I have a bigger update today:

First (and very important):
We are using the App Bitcoin.ph where our donations are sent to. Today, it seems like he can't access his address anymore because Bitcoin.ph made an update. No funds were lost. I don't know if there's any transition period but please @everyone use our new address: Donation address: 3Cii92orneregUnho24tRerWFEGqVywW2b

I've also updated the OP.

Second:
The farm which we had set up in January this year, was harvested now and we have some pictures to share:

He has also sent a short video:

https://i.imgur.com/RA10Kf0.mp4

It was a big success and we want to thank everyone who sent donations so far.

For our current campaign we are re-arranging our goals and he has asked me to change the campaign a little bit.
Now, we will not remove the old plants from the new farm but we plan to use again the farm where the rice was harvested recently. Since we won't have to remove so many old plants, it will be cheaper and easier to set it up again. In addition, this part of the farm is more than 2 times bigger than the one mentioned in my OP.
We have already collected half of the money to do this from our current campaign and still need 200$ to finally do this.
We are are planning to begin shorty and if we are short of funds, I'll sent him the remaining BTC. Our target is mid-june because he wants to hurry up a bit when days are getting more rainy.

How much of a yield are you looking to get out of this initial planting?
He will distribute all harvested rice to his town and especially those who have helped him harvesting it. But I have asked him to sell a part, if some rice is left because such funds could help us to reach our new funding goal.

Also are you guys going to setup a website or something along those lines for this initial venture?
He and me don't have any coding skills and hiring a programmer to set up a website would be a loss of funds because it's not really necessary.
I'll keep using Bitcointalk because it has worked very well for us so far here.  Smiley

I will ask him tomorrow, how many funds are collected so far and how much USD is missing to reach our goal. I don't know the exact numbers, but it should be aroud 150 - 200$, which is still to collect.

How long does it take for a rice farm to be ready for harvest?
Yes, stomachgrowls is right here, it takes around 120 days to be ready for harvest. He set up a farm in January and it was harvested a few days ago, I'll upload pictures shortly. In total, it took around 140 days to be harvested.
But I'll post pictures shortly here.  Smiley

so uhh after this rice farm is planted what next?
We will see how the current donation campaign will turn out. It looks like there is not gonna be a bigger amount of BTC be possible to collect here that we will even have difficulties to reach the goal from our current donation campaign. But in that case I would donate the rest that we can prepare at least what we have planned for now (OP).  Smiley
Have you able to convert out those BTC's to local currency/fiat before the market crashed or still in BTC form? If yes, then that would really be hard to reach out such target.
Luckily, he conversted all BTC to cash at a rate of approximately 52k USD.
I'll adjust our funding goal and display it in USD instead, maybe it's better when prices are so volatile.

Well off of the initial investment of .007 in btc how much rice could you produce?
It would be enough to remove old plants, buy seedlings and plant it where we will remove old plants:

According to some search it would take up to 120 days or simply in 4 months time

I guess 400 would really be enough if the farmers are close to whom would help or somehow family related. But with the current situation in the Philippines is getting worse plus the price of goods and/or any family's necessity in financial terms are increasing, I think adding more to the donation would be a great help to those farmers. I mean, if it would be a donation not only to make the farm but to feed the farmers families, then doubling the donation or atleast giving more wouldn't be bad right?
If this would remain in continue this coming June, I might try to share some of my profit.
Receiving more donations is always useful and we could save it for future campaigns. As he's sharing the harvested rice with his town, we need to clear how he's setting up his farm again when he doesn't make profits by selling rice.
I don't know about his current plans but maybe he can sell a part of the harvested rice to use it again for new rice seedlings after the rice is harvested.

certainly, I was more curious about how is profitable rice farm. If he invests $700, how much they will get back worth yield? will be able to double that amount?
Here in my country, some plants it does not pay to produce at all, especially on small farms.
Good question, I'll ask him how much money he would make if he would sell his entire harvest.

My small donation is on the way and I hope it will help achieve the goal in the end - and it would certainly be nice for as many people as possible to get involved with smaller donations - because as some say, every good deed in life comes back one way or another Wink
Many thanks for your donation.  Smiley
And yes, every donation is appreciated. Even if it's only 0.1 mBTC, people can send us with a very low transaction fee. We don't have any hurry here to receive the tx immediately.

I've sent once again 0.5 mBTC recently, so we are at 3.20 mBTC, so 3.80 mBTC remains to collect.  Smiley

I guess this is just basically a donation drive to give a community a farm that they can use to literally feed their families and not by selling what they harvests. And if we were talking about profits, based on what I know, rice farms here in the Philippines can earn a thousand dollars if a 700USD was invested as an initial capital for farmers to use plus the equipment they rent for harvesting it. It would still depend on what is the quality of rice plus where would you sell it. Why? There are tons of rice types here which the price varies as well, and there are marketplaces here that isn't really capable of buying expensive rice whilst there are rice being exported from provinces to urban areas.. which makes a sack of rice be sold low by farmers yet sold high in popular marketplaces, unless a farm is owned by a Milling Corporation.

A little shocked that the project focused on making a farm in the country I live. And were shocked more upon knowing that the goal is only around 400USD or 20K PHP, which if tractors and equipments would be bought, might never be enough.
The farm is not very big and the previous farm was at least double size, for which 700$ were enough. Machines will be rented which has a cost of approximately 150$, he said last time.

these really aren’t big amounts, I don’t think you’ll have a problem getting enough money for that.
I am curious, how much he can make a profit from the farm like this?
whether there will be enough just for their needs, or they will have enough to sell?
He answered me this also today and said, he doesn't generate profits from selling rice: Because it is a small farm, harvested rice will be distributed to his town for everyone who will help harvesting it.

Labor fees are included but he's mainly setting it up himself with someone from his town, like our last project (there are two workers in some of the pictures).
I'll ask him about taxes and reply here, when he has answered. But most likely it seems to be he and his neighbors setting the farm up.

Whatever the coin is, you can exchange it for BTC or ETH from a swap site or in an exchange. It seems the receiver is not much into crypto so giving him random coins/tokens will be difficult for him to convert. You can also create a topic for exchange in the currency exchange section I guess.

I've asked him and he doesn't know Aevo coins, he's only accepting BTC and ETH.

For harvesting, he'll share the rewards with all people from his town who will help him, it seems to be a (partly) community owned farm or something like that.

The land seems to need a lot of work to be done and I know how hard it is to make a land good for farming, I just pray here and hope that you are going to reach that goal and get more donations than you could've expected.
Yes, he said this too, there need to be a lot of old plants removed and the ground needs to be prepared to be suitable for small rice seedlings.
But that did already work for the previos farm where we had to remove old plants, too.  Smiley

Wish the unit is in satoshi, or perhaps also dominated in satoshi to make things easier for people who are used to that particular unit... And also it would be a good idea to specify the list of things that need to be bought for transparency sake. I believe there are people who would want to be sure that what they are funding is safe. For example, not everyone will like to fund things that include GMOs or synthetic chemicals.
Will keep an eye on the thread.
It would really be much better if it would really be showing off on what are the things that would tend to be purchased.
As far as I know he needs to purchase:
- Renting machines to remove old plants and prepare the grounds
- Rice seedling

So checking out on that piece of lot, then i would like to ask on OP on how big (in sqm) the lot is?  For that $400+ target fund goal is just for cleaning up the area and setting it up as a rice field?
If yes, then i can say that it would be too much.
I'll ask him, how much sqm the farm is in total.
The problem is renting machines is very expensive and the general cost of renting them is 150$.

Lot of money in 3rd world but basing only on this kind of farming business then that wont really be enough for sure.Im bit interested on this one...
At least this is a start. This is another demonstration that using bitcoin or let's say crypto one can easily help someone in any corner of the world where there are no boundaries at all.
Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking when I started the first campaign. Bitcoin is suitable for various use-cases and cross-border donations from all over the world are a great demonstration how Bitcoin can improve global issues.
We have seen some donation campaigns here already (like from cabalism13 etc.) which is a very good sign.  Smiley

Yes, we have started this last year, when some thypoons hit the Phillipines and his town was affected. It went very well, so we have agreed to expand the farm.  Smiley
I wish you good luck brother. Also hope that you reach your goal.
Thank you very much. If we don't reach the goal from donations, I'll add the missing amount of BTCSmiley

For those who do not have enough for them $400 is a lot of money. First I was a bit confuse too after seeing this thread but then for the whole story I read this topic : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/failed-donate-building-rice-farms-in-the-philippines-funding-goal-02-btc-5317555

In any natural disaster the farmers are the one who pay the maximum loss.

Thanks for your updates 1miau!

Update from 16. August 2021:

Unfortunately, shortly after my last update, the water supply was shut down and government tried to repair it. But we needed water to start our work, so we waited until it's fixed. It took a long time to be fixed but fixing will be finished in a few days.
Additionally, a big Corona wave was hitting their town and people were affected. So we decided to buy some food from our funds.

We will start preparing the farm when we have water again but because we have bought some food, we need some more money (around 100$), to get enough funds again.Donations please to: 3Cii92orneregUnho24tRerWFEGqVywW2b
I have already donated a little bit and 100$ aren't much, so we should get enough funding to compensate our food purchases.

After our last donation campaign failed because we didn't meet our funding goal, we have set up a new one where we have set a much lower funding goal.

Once again, we are planning to plant rice. The farm isn't prepared, so we need to remove old plants and preparing it to plant new seedlings. To removed old plants and preparing it to farm rice again, we will buy machines to do so.

The new farm is near to bigger one which was funded in January.
New farm, to be planned:

Our funding goal is 7 mBTC.

From our German donation campaign we have already collected a part of it.

If the funding goal isn't met, I'll fund the remaining part out of my pocket.  Smiley

Update 31.05.2021

We have now enough funds to proceed, thanks to everyone.
