it is true that at this time a lot of traders who try to sell wallet hardware like that, and in my opinion you better be careful when you want to make a transaction, you better meet directly where the seller's location for safer transactions.

If the new hardware wallet is from a new project i would have advice not to have interest at all, but shapeshift is one of the strongest old exchange in crypto space and i have been using their service since i entered crypto space so if shapeshift hardware wallet is cheap then there is nothing wrong in this.

It's one of those dropshipping or whatever scams, they advertise a product as free or heavily discounted and they charge a fortune for shipping, enough that the shipping costs net them a fancy profit.

I saw it with 40 dollars delivery fees for free watches, and it looks like it's the same scheme here as well since crypto-currencies are the best big thing.

Is the product that bad? Has anyone actually used one yet? A 50 dollar hardware is still not bad compared to 100 dollar ledgers and 200+ for a trezor.

I'd love to hear someone's opinion about the device if they've tried it.

I doubt the ad is from dropshipping people. I checked the shapeshift.io website and I saw the $10 ad.
Well, . I guess they are really selling hardware wallet at that price but the extra charges actually go to shipping companies?
Check the bottom of the website, the $10 is clearly written there.

I saw on ads on forum about Keepkey hardware wallet. If you visit shapeshift.io, you can see the offer. It's written; if you register and pass the KYC step, you can buy KeepKey wallet just $10.

But truth is different.
Once you complete KYC, you get an email from them. And when you click the link, you can see Keepkey hardware wallet is sale for just $10. From here, everything is going well. But when you proceed to checkout, you can see the shipping fee. It is $38,58 (Cheapest one)! OMG! I can buy Ledger with that price!

I wrote the support but they said, there is nothing we can do. It is a shipping fee and it does not depend on us.
As you can see, don't send your KYC for vain!
Thanks for information.
How do they think they can sell their products with this tactic? it does not help anything other than making it redundant.

Are their shipping fee standard? Maybe someone lives in the country where it was produced and there is no need to shipping?

Guys, I think most of you misunderstood the issue. Yes I can understand the shipping fee. But come on $38! I am working at post office! If you send anything like this hardware wallets, it can cost max $5-10.

I can understand that you trust shapeshift. I am not mentioning about shapeshift already. But someone who see that campaign it is just $10, they may think send KYC docs to shapeshift. And then with the shipping fee, they probably give up. That's what&why I wrote here.

But yes, If I were you I would pick Ledger in that situation.

Yes, its shipping fee should be cheaper, but we should consider if this is a domestic transaction. We all know that transactions such as domestic delivery cost more than local transactions.

I already bought Nano Ledger. I do not know about the cost of shiping to your country, if you feel strange about these costs, try changing the shipping address to the address closest to the company. You only need to check the shipping costs without cashout first.
Same here, I bought Nano Ledger before. Since I am close to the seller, the shipping fee does not cost too much.
So if we wanted a hardware wallet with cheaper fee for shipping we should buy it to the closest store.

It is therefore a bait. And it was a nicely-designed one at that. They deserve a thumbs up for their cunning ways of luring people into undergoing KYC. However, it is still a bait and people should not be led by that. Thank you for letting us all know. I was actually a shapeshift user before when there was no account and KYC requirements yet, but when they started calling for their users to create an account and pass KYC, I left their services.

That's right, we should look at shipping costs so we don't judge that it's a lie. Actually, if hardwallets are promoted at a price of $ 10 is common because the more they produce a lot, the price will be cheaper

No need to waste money on that. Going for a little cheaper price and risking big? Not a wise decision. And Ledger Nano S does not cost you 100 USD. It is much cheaper than that. What you are about to buy is a vault, a personal bank, a safety. Do you have to choose the cheapest? Or you won't mind the price for the sake of security?

LOL, I saw that many months ago but didn't bother to check it out because I have a hunch that something is not right with that offer and thanks to the OP for verifying it. Of course, you can that it's a trap, specially that they advertise it as very cheap as compare to the retail price. Just another marketing ploy for Shapeshift because they are losing costumers because of their KYC policy. So there's some sort of tricking customers here, and it would be a good idea for everyone to really buy it directly to their websites so everything is transparent.

I'd instead buy more Ledger than to buy that hardware wallet. With free shipping, they can send the hardware wallet to any country. I think that it is worth for user who wants to have a hardware wallet. And Ledger is one of the best hardware wallets for the user who wants to save their asset with safety. I think they are making a good promotion by offers $10 to buy the hardware wallet, but the fee for sending the wallet is too expensive.

They could have simply said $48 with free shipping similar to other hardware wallets but they made it $10 with "hidden" shipping fees instead for obvious reasons. It's a typical marketing strategy. Sorry that you fell for it.

Finally! I think you have just fully understood me. Thank you.

Was there any option for free shipping? Or you avoided it because it takes longer time?
Ads are usually exaggerated to attract customers. You probably should have gone through the company's website to understand if the advertised price is the actual price. They normally have hidden charges somewhere that can't be easily noticed.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to talk about this here. The customer's interest should be protected all the time and there should be no exception at any point of the sale process and any business operator doing otherwise should be spurned by the community. Now, let me clarify, the buyer is required to pass the KYC before he is allowed to know that it is possible the shipping rate can be as high as $38.58. I think this is main contention and problem here. Had there been an open and transparent availability of all the information then the customer will have an option to proceed to KYC or not. We know that KYC can involved giving up our details and documents and these days we don't just do it carelessly. I think ShiftShift's should change this one feature and make all the information available in just one glance before enticing prospective customer to make the KYC. That sounds fairer to me for both sides of the table.

i hope you realize that you are not buying a hardware wallet for $10, you are actually selling them something and in return they are giving you a discount on Keepkey.
what are you selling them, you ask. you are selling them your identity and personal documents when you go through their KYC. so in reality that hardware wallet is costing you a lot more than just $10  + shipping cost.
in other words the scam is not only in the shipping cost but it is in fooling people into giving them their identity.

It make sense though I have never bought any hardware wallet but I've seen a lot of seller online which is why I'm wondering if KYC is usually required for buying hardware wallet or not? It's my first time hearing about Shapeshift and the price they offer for a hardware wallet is very cheap if shipping fee is not that high then I might consider ordering one but does anyone here successfully bought from them?

This is only a shipping fee. I am sure you came across a lot of offers in internet that are offering good prices, but insane shipping fees. Depending on where you live, if they are shipping from USA and you are located in Europe, 3-5 day delivery costs you a lot.

I think that shipping fee is not the same for all I think it depends on location. If you are near the store location probably you will get cheaper shipping fees.
It's unfortunate the fees are bigger than the product price I guess shapeshift has done nothing wrong but if they say on the ads that it has free shipping that's absolutely a trap.
