How did they generate the prize pool? Donations?

probably going to earn it back from streams, advertisements, they could even charge a sign up fee and with such a reward there will be participants..
Actually 1/4th of all compendium and compendium points sales goes to this prize pool. Valve contributed 1.6 million to begin with, so 8.4 was generated from 1/4 of the sales, means valve takes away the other 3/4, which is ~25 million. More than enough to pay for this.

I'm not sure if that's true, can you somehow prove it? If it's true i will be on DOTA all day long to get some price Smiley I haven't seen games to have prize tournaments so far, except for poker stuff.

I'm guessing you know nothing about esports? Anyway, you can check the current Dota2 prize pool here: http://www.dota2.com/international/compendium/

who do you think are the top contenders in the upcoming TI4? I think Na'Vi will again be in the top/runner up spot as they have always been since TI1 but EG and DK are both powerful team, I hope the championship game would be as epic as Alliance vs. NaVi.  Grin

And the games like that are just rock/paper/scissors holy shit >_< I mean, I'm not an asshole that will scream about banning gambling or anything but that does make me kind of depressed about it, at least pick a decent game like Counter Strike Source, it always makes me laugh about how people rant about how balanced starcraft is.

The revolution will be digital
Hey guys, just wanted to say how this years International Dota 2 tournament (TI4) hit a prize pool of 10 million dollars. This is massive news for the gaming industry, as this smashes previous prize pool records. This will give at least a 4 million dollar prize to the winning team, and this is actually even a large prize pool for real sports. I think its even more than the fedex cup and the masters cup for golf.

As u r talking about Dota 2, I'm sharing a full movie uploaded on youtube on this game...

Watch at your leisure. It is 1h:15m:43s long Smiley

Thats why koreans are so bad in football and other sports, they are all in the esports competitions  Cheesy

that actually makes a lot of sense Cheesy

still South Korea surprised me with their draw with Russia (which kicked out Netherlands in the European championship) Cheesy

Last year tournament prize for first price was only 1.3kk dollars. So it is massive leap. I am avid Dota players and I contributed to that prize pool as well by buying Dota Compendium Smiley

Well thats alot, its almost near the prizes for the grandslam series of tennis, in fact the second place gets less than 700k usd.
