I think I will do that. In less than a week or so maybe this weekend I will make a post on the dota 2 subreddit and do it manually at first (tournament on the subreddit no official site yet) and use tipping as the way to be paid I am excited for this.

I will just search for it, but there have been tournaments that paid in Bitcoin prizes. {Not DotA2}

This should not be too complicated... Host the Bitcoin League on a Fan forum, that are already out there. Take subscription entries, place it in a pool and at the end, pay out to winners.

Have you asked this on some of the DotA2 forums yet? If YES, what was the response?

I will test the water, by challenging someone to play you for Bitcoin. Other people will ask you, what this Bitcoin thing is, and they will also want to get into the action for the money.

You can even make it easier... Ask people to go to a reddit thread you created and if they win, you tip them with ChangeTip... that will automatically start the road towards Bitcoin adoption.

You take it from there, and grow it bigger.  Wink
Thats a good idea, in the first stages before I develop an automated website I'll do it on the Dota 2 subreddit and pay winnings in changetip, so their is lots of potential adoption there because they have to redeem their winnings.

Yes, and when they redeem their winnings, they will automatically have to create a ChangeTip account and it will start the whole process of adoption.  Wink The added bonus for you... if you lose and they do not redeem it, you will be refunded with the whole amount.

When we tipped people in the Xbox thread on reddit, the day Microsoft announced that it would accept Bitcoin as a payment method... I had a 100% adoption record. {Well, let's rather say.. everyone redeemed the money, I tipped them}  Wink

Hope you will give us feedback on how this experiment went..  Grin {send me a PM for a reminder, if I miss it}

What you are talking about is the two big areas of risk: TECHNICAL RISK and MARKET RISK.

Technical risk is : "can I really deliver the product".

Market risk is: "will people want the product, and in sufficient numbers to make it viable".

A good entrepreneur acknowledges and minimizes both.

It is a nice idea, I've actually had it myself but I'm conscious of risk and can't program. Do you have the necessary funds for something like this?

Its an interesting idea, but just an idea. Do you have any real plan to do this? Business or programming experience?
it cant be that hard to be honest , just gotta find a good dev and some time :>

You underestimate the difficulty of finding a good dev. Making this is one thing, making it fully fluid and have the features that the OP wants work is another thing entirely which is on an entirely different spectrum of difficulty. And then there is the issue I raised earlier of this seeming to be a very niche thing. Dota is big, but Dota & Bitcoin makes it niche.

I also suggested this for Starcraft.

I find the team play a bit, how can I put it, unfair. {To many people try to cheat by playing for the other team.... } It would be better to have Alliance Warz for BTC. {A person will be less likely to cheat, when they are part of a Alliance}

I also stopped playing, after my house was broken into and all my computer equipment got stolen.

I played DotA 1 for a while, but it's crazy online. {We used to have small LAN gatherings at my house, and most people where on the same level.. so it was crazy fun and my kids joined in, which made it even more fun}

Since then, I changed jobs and things just got more complex, with nearly no time for gaming. KWW {Kids / Work / Wife}  = kills gaming time.

Still think it is a great idea, but try to make the teams equal ...people will leave if it is a one sided winning spree.  Sad

I play dota  pretty frequently and have a Dota 2 team, and thought it would be a good idea to start a dota 2 bitcoin league.
Main features :
- Fully automated website where you can register your team and view the current standings, with automated deposits and withdraws
- Chat box on site to post match results and ask for help
- Pay to enter system, you buy your ticket for a fixed price (please let me know what a good price is) and the top 3 teams get paid a portion of the total prize pool. 1st place gets 50% 2nd gets 30% and 3rd gets 20%. For example if there were 10 teams each paid 10$ the first place would get 50$ 2nd gets 30$ and 3rd gets 20$
- Balance is stored in your account where you are free to use winnings to pay for more tickets, withdraw immediately, your choice

First round would be free, I want to see the amount of people that would participate in this before making it pay to play
If people really want I could escrow the prize pool
Let me know what you would like to see and if you would want to play it if I started working on it.

I think this is definitely interesting, and it's something I thought about a lot. Something similar is actually on my timeline. Let me know by PM if you would like to collaborate. Also, are you on a pro or semi-pro team? Just curious. Haha.

Yes, Dota is popular, but combining it with Bitcoin makes it quite niche. This could be very successful, but it could also just be dead and have no participants, therefore failing spectacularly.

I guess we'll see.

While it sounds interesting I have a doubt over how popular it would get. It seems a tad too niche to be able to take off.

dota is indeed a popular game
dota + bitcoin will be very popular, because gamer tend to join any sort of competition, so by making this , it will be like spreading words of bitcoins

It would be nice if you could tell me if you are interested and if we did it if your team would sign up and participate. Please let me know so I can know the interest and demand of this project.

That's exactly why I asked for a Gaming section on the Meta last time . and still waiting for the voters to vote .
I'am personally interessted but you still didn't answer my question above mate .

Decided to keep the house fees at 5% of the prize pool, someone suggested 10% but I think that is too much. I need to be able to have some extra funds to add some bounty, run the site (hosting and domains cost money) and just make my time worthwhile.
If I can get your team names down, I will start work on the site (I know programming) when I have the names of about 10 teams.
First round will be free to test it out.
One choice I wanted to make:
- Off-chain with your balance stored on an account and you can withdraw and deposit btc to buy tickets. Tickets are purchased with the click of a button and the balance is debited your account
_OR_
- On-chain with an address, where your team is attached to the address through signed message or blockchain public message. This adds transparency and the option for escrowing.

Either options work and im siding with the on-chain for transparency and safety reasons.

i love this idea, since myself is really a big fan of dota, well i played dota 1, since marriage took over my gaming habit, id restrain myself from playing that anymore, but i would love to see this, perhaps a feature for non player to do a bet too? like e-sportsbook
