Well, we’re five months deep and I’m still locked out.  I have tried most of the available communication avenues, but received no response.  The flurry of hack attempts Teppy mentioned to SpliffBeanz is still my only lead.  I’m not sure if I was a target or a suspect, though the latter seems to explain more.  Since I haven’t explicitly stated this yet, I did not and would not participate in such malicious acts.  I find Teppy’s honesty in admitting his mistake with SpliffBeanz refreshing, and in line with his typical patterns of fairness and integrity.  Unfortunately, his practice of taking punitive action against suspects without engaging in communication with them yields unnecessary false positives.  Perhaps more troubling, it effectively closes the door to appeal, making it all but impossible for those falsely categorized as malicious to attempt to correct the record.  Even in SpliffBeanz’s case, Teppy specified that he just happened to notice the mistake while dealing with an unrelated issue.  I can only anxiously hope that this is a temporary practice stemming from Teppy’s busy schedule, and not a philosophical indifference toward or rejection of the Blackstone principle.

While I shouldn’t and won’t deliberately hide this disturbing flaw in the game’s administration, I don’t think focusing on the negative is my most effective path forward.  Having recently read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, I want to act within what Stephen Covey defines as a win-win, rather than win-lose, paradigm.

To this end, when discussing Dragon’s Tale, I will continue to highlight its genuinely positive aspects, which in my opinion are abundant.  I will also write another forum post, one aimed at introducing Dragon’s Tale to non-Entropia players.  Any suggestions for forums I should publish it to would be greatly appreciated.  Other ideas to promote the game are as well.  I’d like my actions to make it unavoidably evident that I don’t fit the malicious hacker stereotype.  Hopefully seeking an outcome advantageous to myself, Teppy, and the community as a whole, will be a more effective approach than an adversarial one.

Thank you very much for supporting spliffbeanz and I through our cases.

And sorry to everyone for my last post turning into a bit of a rant.  XD

First of all I want to say congrats to spliffbeans of getting your back money back after it takes times. But I never knoe that this game exist this long, not saying bad about the game but its been a while when I first try to play it and earn something here. But actually I do not really know what am I suppose to do there, only kicking the tree as I remembered it well

May be I would like to play it again later on. Btw what is the newest updates on this game?

Dragon's Tale is a game with enough direction to permit a notion of progress, but enough freedom to make "what am I supposed to do" less applicable than "what am I able to do," or "what will happen if I do ____?"  Bucking the modern trend to relieve players of the "responsibility," the "burden" of deciding for themselves what is enjoyable (via increasingly linear game design), DT focuses on supplying its players with the tools to design their own user experience.  Updates are infrequent and generally of marginal impact, but the game doesn't depend on them for its replay value.

The modern content pump model for player retention is so common (presumably it yields the highest profit ceiling) that it's sometimes mistaken as the sole means of achieving replayability.  To see the contrast, ask yourself why the Nintendo 64 Zelda games remain popular decades after release.  It's not because the quests were suffused with randomness or ultra-finely tuned to manufacture variety, and it's certainly not because the developers are pumping it with new levels, new characters, new DLC, etc. every month. It's because the game itself has such a robust, nonlinear structure that players are still able to find their own ways to extract entertainment value from it. Search Ocarina of Time Bingo for an example.  Organic replay value has the potential to extend the life span of a game orders of magnitude beyond what can be achieved by repeatedly injecting new content.  When I hear "we need to change ____ to keep a game fresh," I wonder why its freshness was built to decay in the first place.

Almost every object in DT is actually a game; kicking the tree is one of many. The outcomes of some games largely depend on luck, while many others are strongly influenced by player skill, and in most cases, it’s clear which games are which. While some pari-mutuel and player-versus-player games have been implemented, a large number are built on an innovative wagering system that makes it feasible to reward player skill even in house-banked games.  The basic idea is to automatically scale the cost and/or prizes of a game to recalibrate its difficulty, much like the Bitcoin mining target.  The result is house-banked gameplay encapsulated by an outer, pari-mutuel layer.

There is also an inventory for storing items used by some games, and a quest system where your avatar can level up. A bonus called “Dragon’s Treasure” is rewarded during game play, which grows larger as your level increases.  So DT does have some healthy amount of structure (unlike Second Life, for example). Give it a try if this sounds like fun to you.

Guys teppy hasn't been online for a year so it's best for you to try out the game itself and see the updates. spliffbeanz and teppy mostly conversed through emails.

This is fantastic news!  I’ve witnessed Teppy interact only ethically with players over the years, so I didn’t lose trust in his integrity, but being in this sort of position sans explanation was inevitably frightening.  Thank you for posting the email; while it sucks that this is driving you from DT, it’s great to learn that your problem was ultimately resolved.  I’m sure fixing mine will also take some time, but it’s a burden removed to know it will be, and to know the security breach attempts seem to have been unrelated to keylogging or other client-side malware!

Since it’s unlikely my account was hacked with this method (I’ve never reused my DT password), I wonder if I am/was suspected of doing the hacking, as you were. XD  Or maybe there were just many failed attempts to access my account.  Who knows?

I will follow suit and post to let you guys and gals know when all is sorted.
I know that your case would be solved too just like spliffbeanz.

Unrelated to the current topic, how active is the game nowadays? It's been quite a while since I logged in and I thought if it might be worth it to check back in.

I'm really sorry for the delay. When you made the request before, it
was during a flurry of hack attempts on the server, where someone
(many?) were trying passwords from compromised bitcointalk accounts
against the Dragon's Tale server. The timing and one of the
fingerprinting heuristics I use made me think that the **********
account was one of those compromised accounts. That's why I sort of
went silent on you - I have quite a few people try to scam the game
and I find it's best not to engage them.

This morning I pulled up a backup for an unrelated issue and spent
some time looking for inconsistencies between the questions you
answered by email and server logs from before your withdraw attempt -
I found everything was consistent with your answers, so I have
replaced the 250 BTM. The server will be back online in an hour or so
- you can withdraw once it's back up. Once again, I'm sorry for the
overly cautious approach.

Ill update this once ive logged in and withdrawn the currency. Cheesy

UPDATE: All withdrawn now, after that experience though im highly doubtful that ill be back

Great news spliffBeanz so the hope that I mentioned really paid off.

It's really good to see that another unsolved case here has been solved through the cooperation of the owner and eagerness of the complainant. I see that there are something going on when you are reaching them and they chose to remained silent about it, what's good is that your problem was solved.

This is an old game and upon checking the link it redirects me to https://www.desert-nomad.com/

Is this still Dragon's Tale and they just changed the name? The name now is "A Tale in the Desert 8". If this is still the same game that you are complaining they have a discord channel on the website which you can raise your concern.

https://discordapp.com/invite/hHfbujH

They are two seperate game both being run by Andrew Tepper. Both are still alive and seem to have very few players left. I wouldnt trust him in the slightest if anyone playing reads this. Im gonna repost my situation between me and Andrew now so more might see

I deposited over 1BTC many years ago into this casino and gambled just over half of it away. Came back at the start of december and remembered my old account details to find a nice 0.25BTC just waiting for me ingame. Immediately i went to withdraw it and was given a blockchain response error suggesting i should contact Di. I didnt want to use the phone number on their site cause its a USA number and im UK so it'll cost me a bomb. I waitied about a couple days ingame chatting to some other local players and eventually Di came online and responded to me telling me to email Andrew Tepper and he will sort it out.

I then told him im from the UK and that we dont have SSN numbers here only a NI number and i then sent over any details i could provide him with. Until now ive had no reply which has brought me here to let anybody else still using this game/casino to be very cautious about it and personally i would never put a single satoshi in here again.

Also i have sent 2 more emails after them just incase he'd got too busy and forgot or something cause obviously im not gonna be his first priority in life, and still no response.

Here's hoping this will lead to a resolution for both of us soon!  Personally, I find it more reasonable to withhold mistrust until time tells its tale.  A little over a year ago, I offered to help fund a two-factor authentication system for the game, yet never received a reply.  My conclusion for the time being is that reliable communication is wanting, but not selectively.

As SpliffBeanz points out, A Tale in the Desert and Dragon's Tale are distinct games.  However, they're both accessed through the same client, so their download links may be identical.  ATITD looks fun as well, although I've never managed to find time to give it a proper try.  A few of its mechanics are genuinely intriguing for an MMORPG, though I suspect Dragon's Tale still wins the prize for innovation and game play depth relative to the plethora of uninspired casinos I've seen advertised here.

Still, the ATITD Discord may be a good suggestion if it allows cross-game discussion.  I'll look into it if needed (I'm trying to space out my communication attempts a bit and refrain from being a nuisance, since the dev team is undoubtedly small and very busy).

Hello, I am new to the forum, but a long time Dragon’s Tale player.  My in-game name is The1.  I have been attempting to contact the DT devs over an account issue, but have yet to receive a response, so I’m hoping to get some help here.  For over a week, whenever I attempt to log into DT, I receive the message “Your Character Has Been Banned” without any further detail.  I have no idea if this decision was a mistake, if my account was hacked, or if I did something inappropriate to merit it.

As far as I’m aware, I haven’t behaved in any way that would lead to disciplinary action.  I’ve been racking my brain over it, but can’t think of anything realistic.  I did recently supply a few small BTM loans to players, some with the expectation of interest, but it’s hard to imagine this being objectionable.  All transactions occurred and were always expected to occur in-game, so this wouldn’t have been construed as a means of circumventing the game’s deposit/withdrawal system, or anything of that sort.  One of the difficulties with this speculation is that DT actually doesn’t oblige or prohibit any player behaviors in its TOS.  Apart from a few specific items mentioned in-game, such as a prohibition on playing the Feather Tree with multiple accounts, the game has no rules.

I have previously written and used a macro to aid in playing the Dragon Painting game.  As an exception to the general absence of rule clarity, macros have been explicitly sanctioned, under the specified conditions shown here:

https://i.imgur.com/k91owmw.jpg

I have always taken care to respect these conditions, both while writing the macro (it’s a good deal slower than 1 click/sec) and while using it (I monitored the macro very closely, and always closed it when I slept, or needed to leave for any significant duration).

I haven’t exploited or found any glitches in DT that I can recall, at least none of monetary relevance.  Occasionally one discovers him or herself spawned on some small, inaccessible island with no games, or walking on water, and I have attempted to bookmark these anomalous locations for fun.  And who hasn’t tried to climb to the out-of-reach Feather Tree on Cang to see if it’s playable? XD  I do enjoy exploring the apparent boundaries of accessible land, I suppose, but I certainly couldn’t make a case that any of this warrants punishment.

As a matter of fact, my character’s reputation, as I've perceived it, has always been neutral-to-positive.  I have never scammed anyone, or even been accused of doing so.  Ditto for student farming (in fact, I’ve yet to accept any request to be a mentor, even though mentorship is something I’d love to pursue in the future, as I feel there are still too many games in DT of which my grasp is poor).  I don’t beg, and I don’t run around shouting profanity or insulting people.  That’s just not my personality.

While I appreciate that those able to help with this are probably very busy, I would be grateful for the relief of sorting this as soon as possible.  I hope that my recent inactivity due to real life isn’t taken as a sign of indifference on my part.  In the past, I have written a forum post introducing Dragon’s Tale on Entropia Planets, submitted and added Dragon’s Tale as a game on GameFAQs, and made an unanswered offer to pitch in a bit of my account’s BTM (when BTC/USD was much higher) toward implementing a Dragon’s Tale 2FA system.  Of course, I’m not under any delusion that these efforts have been effective in positively impacting DT, but I hope they do serve as evidence that I truly love the game, and want to see it succeed and grow, and to be a part of its long-term future.  I also have a nontrivial amount of BTM in my account (though not enough to buy a lambo anytime soon Tongue), plus the cost, as well as the sentimental aspect, of having raised my avatar since the early days of Bitcoin.  For these reasons, I eagerly look forward to clarifying and resolving whatever the underlying issue at play is.  I am also slightly worried about my computer, in case my account is locked due to access from a suspicious IP address or something.  My password is strong, but keylogging is always a concern.  If the lock is disciplinary in nature, it would be very helpful to know the duration of the ban, and the specific reason, in order to avoid ending up in this situation again.  And of course, if the lock is a simple mistake, I realize that these things happen, and regaining access to my account as soon as possible will be a perfectly satisfactory resolution.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help!
