Have we gotten any shipping update on the chips.  Sorry if this has been recently discussed.

No update as yet on chip shipment. I'm on it. Have sent Dave a few messages and waiting to hear back. Will let you know when i do.

In may have missed it, how did testing of the USB miner go?

What happened to the small board that connects two backplans together? There is an illustration of one in the first post, the last illustration? Is it still under development?

With only one 24-pin connector per PSU, I gather half of those boards would need to be powered individually via molex?

Does anyone know if we're able to plug the Drillbit boards into the 4-stack miniplane, but then use 4x molex and 4x USB cables to connect the boards individually? So just using the miniplane to physically secure the Drillbit boards.

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure the 4 boards plugged into a mini plane can be powered by one 4 pin molex. I hear there are different powered cables coming from the PS (Is that true and if so which one? 3, 5, 12v)
And if you have 2 of the miniplanes plugged into a "backplane", then one plug should again work. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

Definitely don't try to power 4 boards with one 4 pin molex. This will probably destroy your gear. The miniplane takes an ATX connector from the PSU. As for powering them individually, yes, you can use the 4 molex to power each individually. If they are plugged into the miniplane then the USB from the first one takes over and everything runs from that, the other USBs are inactive. If you want to use separate USBs then you have to not plug them in to the miniplane. So individual powering from the molex plugs and running from the one USB socket is a possible approach. The thing is that you must be careful not to let any of the molex plugs come out - if one comes unstuck then the power to that board will flow from the other ones. This isn't recommended.

I want to make cables myself & would like to use PCIExpress 6 pin as a base connection for the 12 volt power draw & then add up to maybe 5-6,4pin molex connections.If they do need the 5 volt then I'll just have use the 4pin molex cable & determine the max wattage on that line as to how many units I can power with that line.Most cables on the PSU have 4-6,4pin connectors from the "factory" on each cable.

are you better off using a 120mm case fan to pull the hot air away from the boards, or use any kind of fan to blow hot air over/away from the boards?

As far as I understood, if you want good cooling, you don't stick fans at 90degrees to each other, you create a sealed push pull wind tunnel using fans at each end, thus giving you the best chance of laminar flow.


Indeed.  The model I posted (along with the associated text) was just to show that you could mount the fans in either location.  You would choose one of those locations, depending on how the fins on the heatsinks are oriented.

I was told that the size of the h-boards is likely to grow, so I built-in a lot of expandability into this case/tray.  There are two possible locations for mounting fans (shown with both, but more likely you would choose either/or location):







Of course this could easily be built longer/wider to accommodate more boards.   Grin

There will also be a slightly different version for those not using m-boards.  Wink

What is the difference in days between express and regular shipping? Trying to compute if it's worth it. Thanks.

According to Australia Post, Express is 2-4 days, regular is 5-7 days.

Is it possible to use UPS/DHL/FedEx ? Or it is better to discuss this privately?

(Thanks for the correction. I saw guys mentioning the 4 pin molex and thought they scaled up. So, the large connectors are the ATX (and I think they give the voltage required) and they plug right into the backplane. Thanks...)

Great (and simple) design! Thanks for sharing. Any idea on price/plans? (Where are you shipping from?)
Some questions for you:
As suspected the 120X120mm fans fit one 4 unit miner nicely. I'm looking at the Scythe Gentle Typhoons and they come in 500, 800, 1450 and 1850 rpm models. I think the 1850 adjusted down (if need be) might be optimal. 1- Any thoughts here or recommended speed? 2- How can we, or can we, control the speed of the fans (CGminer/Raspberry Pi?) (The Gentle Typhoons I am looking at come with 3 and 4 pin moly connectors/adapters.)

ps - Guys looking for power supplies, if you can't find that coolermaster mentioned on the prior page, strongly consider the Super Flower Golden Green at 400w as it is very efficient and quiet and light to mid loads. (4-12 miners imo). It is gold plus and around 60 - 70 bucks.
