just make sure that the (6+2) + 6pin cable from old power supply is compatible with your new gq unit.

Or keep your original psu for your motherboard and risers and run your gpus off a good server psu from parallelminer.com that's what I did just a suggestion

Yes, you can use a 6+2 connector as 6 or as 8 pin connector. The specs say it has 10 connectors in total but you need 11. I just checked the picture on the evga website, apparently the PSU comes with 4 cables that have 2x6+2 and 2 cables that have 1x6+2...maybe you can just buy an additional 2x6+2 cables from evga...or you have one laying around already....

I could return one of the recently purchased cards to get one with a single connector for connection and that would then get me under what I needed. I was under the assumption I could use 6+2 connectors as just 6 pins.

You can use it as riser power connector (riser with 6pin PCI-e power). But you MUST NOT use it as GPU additional power connector

Dont you need 4*"6+2"pin + 4*6pin + 3*6pin = 11*"6+2" pin? That PSU has only 10*6+2 pin

It would have been smart to buy 1070s with only one PCIe 6 Pin like ASUS Strix O8G...but its too late for that...maybe if you plan to buy more look out for that. For now you will have to plug in a 6 pin and a 8 pin to your cards if they have both plugs.

The power draw of GPUs works the following way: The GPU takes up all the power it can/needs from the directly connected power connectors and if it still needs more it will draw power from the riser. The 6 (75W) & 8(150W) pin connectors from your PSU provide enough power, i would plug those into your GPUs directly. 4x1070 has a TDP of 600W, check your PSU if it can deliver that much on that cable arm (sticker on the PSU has a chart which cable arm has how much load max).

As you said, now you dont have any powercables left for your 6 pin powered risers. Here you can use those 2 molex -> 1 x 6 pin adapters (1 molex = 55W for 5V and 130W for 12V) as it is unlikely that the card will pull much power from the riser when it already has excess power supply directly.

You can use SATA. Just use 6-pin to SATA, and not molex to SATA or vice-versa. You'll overdraw power and start a fire.

I don’t understand the need for that many cables either but the GTX 1070s have a 8 pin and a 6 pin on the card. Do I only need to plug in the 8 pins? That would free up a lot of cables for me. I thought I had to have both the 6 and 8 into the cards. Which would be 4x 8 pins and 4x 6 pins for the 4 cards and then would need 3 additional 6 pins for the risers. I feel like I’m doing something wrong here.

I would never trust to take any serious power from molex, I've seen plenty of those connectors fail (burn).

it can be dependent on cable quality, and it can be dependent on copper wire diameter. you can calculate the safety range (diameter - wattage) on internet.

but in 1-2-3 gpu on 1 psu cable is okay (if cable have good quality)

They work but there’s no guarantee of the quality of these risers, so beware of that. It’s always best to run your cards from straight 8 or six pin power cords, but if you need to monitor the cable to make sure it doesn’t burn or something like that. With server power supplies you can wire the cables yourselves so you can get more six and eight pin connectors and they tend to be more reliable in my experience.

Most 850w PSU's have 4 PCIe 6+2 connectors. The GTX 1070s have only one 8 pin power connectors. So what seems to be the problem? Why are you running short of connectors? Are you using PCIe power type risers as well? Just use Molex type risers and youll do fine.
