It was in the middle of the night, maybe 3 or 4. I zapped through the TV channels and watched the ending of this movie. That looks very much like it. I will check later today and see if that's the movie!
This one is tough. I have seen a lot movie but this made me think thoroughly.

I think it is most likely the latter but its about a experiment when guards are turned in to prisoners and vice versa. Interesting film.

All I remember is the ending. It was a prison, and one inmate took a lot of other prisoners/staff as hostage, demanded a car, and went with a prison staff woman to a cafe. They then sat there and waited for the police to arrest him.

Sounds an awful lot like the ripped from the headlines "Abducted: Fugitive for Love" (can't easily tell if there was a Russian or Serbian remake) but if that's not it, please PM me to keep looking.

Sounds like Swordfish by Hugh Jackman and John Travolta, they were' held hostage inside like a bank but looks like a cafe to me, but movie is not Russian. When was the movie made?
I saw the movie around 2010, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's from the 80s or 90s. They were at what I believe to be a prison at first, and then the inmate fled to a cafe (not a bank, that's for sure) with a woman who worked at the prison.I remember that the movie was subtitled, so it can't be in English or Norwegian. I am 85% it was a balkan or russian language, at least.
