It's only a "just" because they immediately change Bitcoin to fiat money.
Accepting Bitcoin is a big step, no questions (particularly in the conservative Germany).
But I would like to see that they only accept Bitcoin, without a middleman.
It would be great if they pay salaries of their employees in Bitcoin.

Hey, German here.

Unfortunately I have to dampen your euphoria a bit. Undecided

This is just a single market operating under the Edeka franchise. It is not the entire Edeka group. As you can read in the Wikipedia article, Edeka "consists today of several cooperatives of independent supermarkets all operating under the umbrella organisation".

So unfortunately it's not billions of revenue. But it's a start at least...

They "just" accept Bitcoin through Bitpay.
But hey, at least some large company in Germany is accepting Bitcoins.

Why is it "just". They still accept bitcoin and people can spend them there which is great. We need many more merchants willing to take the plunge. Doesn't matter whether they use bitpay or not at the end of they day.

This is definitely good news and perhaps that encourage others in Germany to do the same.
Maybe Lidl and Kaufland make a move Smiley

The website and company image kind of reminds me of Lidl, which isn't surprising since they are both German companies.
None the less, it is good news and a good addition to the Bitcoin accepting Businesses chain.

Nothing strange. There are to many other big businesses which accept bitcoin since some time. Can be named Microsoft, Dell, etc. It is good that these giants are followed by other giants in other countries. This is a big sign that the bitcoin has a secure future ahead of itself.

Edeka is accepting Bitcoin via Bitpay since march or april this year. The company is not as big as Walmart but they are Germany's biggest grocery store. In 2014 the revenue was 51 Billion Euro.

Here is an older article from a german Bitcoin blog.

Move On !!!!!!
They "just" accept Bitcoin through Bitpay.
But hey, at least some large company in Germany is accepting Bitcoins.

If I was an owner of the big corporation or the company I would surely go step by step and accept Bitcoin through the Bitpay. Then after some time, I would switch when everybody else is switching. This is business, this is not a game, and being careful is a name of the game.

For Bitcoin, this is a great news. More we have on board, the merrier, simple as that. We need a majority to accept Bitcoin and then the minority will follow. Another great news, I think 4th or 5th this week.

Through BitPay or not, at least they considered on accepting bitcoins. Cheesy I wonder how many more large companies would consider accepting bitcoins in the near future? Our country (the Philippines) doesn't have much businesses that accepts bitcoin as payment. We have a large user base here in our country so if any bitcoin-accepting company would start a business here, I'm sure it will be heavily promoted.

Terminated.
Unless someone translate it and point out where it says they are accepting Bitcoin, this post is pointless.
Signature campaign 101.

It's on the homepage. This is great news. I wonder when have they started accepting Bitcoin, is there a news article? AFAIK there was a test period in April.

is this equivalent to Walmart?
You can't really compare the two. Walmart:
Revenue $ 485.651 billion (2014)
Number of employees: 2.2 million
