Well, sure I think there is some possibility of some altcoins to surpass the main Bitcoin and Ethereum in spite of their use. But, do not forget that every single altcoin changes, when Bitcoin does.

It should be something genius to overcome bitcoin or Ethereum. For now I don't see any alternative coin which can replace them.

The number of altcoins available with greater functionality is on the rise - but do you think they will ever take over

It doesnt matter if there are thousands of alcoins of bitcoin still has 40 % dominance. Maybe few will rise and catch up a little bit but they certainly wont overtake bitcoins for as long we will start using crypto in everyday life.

Altcoin is very complex and competing with each other. Of course in the future altcoin may have intrinsic value according to its function. But if you mean taking over market capitalization, maybe now they've done it.

No.
How they can take over if there's a bunch of it for the people to chose on what's going to be their coin for usage, function and profit? In a market that has wide competition only the best remains if those altcoins has greater functionality will be noticed but it seems that they aren't really have that feature.

Even with the progress in altcoin as many are generated on a daily basis and some of them are successful hence making them stable, I still don not believe they will dominate the crypto system as bitcoin and ethereum remains the most stable, successful and most accepted coin by the people. Even most of these altcoin use bitcoin or etherum for their exchange.

Dont you think that is normal that 10000 different coins with different technology is worth more then one coin?  That dont mean that Bitcon lost it dominance. It is just not worth more then all the rest combine. Bitcoin is still more valuable then any other coins.  Basically take over cant be really measured in marketcap, since ways how coins gets distributed cant be compared.  Bitcoin also have some fake marketcap, since lost of coins that was mined first two years are lost. They are off the market forever and are just boosting Bitcoin marketcap.
The marketcap means nothing as far as i know only widely adoption will be considered as important value. But remember OP meant about all alternative coins, but there are hundreds of existing coin right now in the market and it cost more than 60% from the total market domination which means altcoins becomes an interesting game changer right now.

In my opinion alt coin will not replace bitcoin. Many altcoin comes day by day but no one reach the price near bitcoin for now. Also many reasons that can make we doubt about the existence. No one knows the coin will remaining exist for next year. We know if the price of bitcoin take effect of altcoin but not the opposite. The only one which can take over the bitcoin place is ethereum for now. Many investor interested to put their money on it. The volume's growth, stable price, smart contract are big potential to replace bitcoin for future.

According to power not. Some new coins will be very difficult to beat bitcoin. Even the ethereum with the platform, and the best transaction quality still can not beat bitcoin. Although some altcoin alternatives have gone up in price many times, its popularity is still difficult to obtain. People are already very popular with the word bitcoin. They will immediately try for the first time by investing bitcoin, not altcoin the other, both when still ICO, and who have entered the market. thank you

All should be able to coexist right beside each other. I personally have all my hopes for the altcoin projects, as those are trying to solve real world issues. I am a huge fan of every project that is actually implementing blockchain to better the world or certain specific sectors.

bitcoin will continue to dominate every altcoins. after the succees of bitcoin many altcoins are created to overcome the flaws of bitcoin and try to compete with it but even today they can't even succeed.

I do not think that it will ever be possible. Everything stays on blockchain and ICOs are on Ethereum. I mean, of course there are so many projects with very high potential in the future, but if a project is going to be the main in crypto world (altcoin) - it definitely will overtake the situation.

Everything can happen, but for now and the next few years Bitcoin will still continue to dominate, and follow Ethereum

Seeing Altcoins take over is going to be a gradual and herculean process. Bitcoin and Ethereum has gained the popularity and market acceptability required for their long-term sustainability, so what most people do with altcoins is, to exchange them for either BTC or ETH when their value increases by a reasonable percentage after holding for a short while.

I think that very soon all alternative currencies will be exchanged for bitcoin or ether. And all the projects developed on the Ethereum platform will use the ether.

Im not sure about that,as bitcoin is still dominating the market, but theres no doubt there will be some coin in the future that will try to dethrone bitcoin but it wont be easy as the time passed by bitcoin's value is getting more massive so it would be much harder for an altcoin to surpass bitcoin's position in the market.

Nope because if these altcoins are dominating in the market, these coins are going to dictate the general trend of the market which isnt because bitcoin is dominating the whole market as most of these altcoins are dependent to bitcoin,as bitcoin grows most of these altcoins grows too and if the otherway around happened most of the altcoins fails.

They are doing it now and so, if you look at how many bitcoins today are on the market by capitalization, then you will understand what exactly the altcoins really do today dominate the market, so today it is so and bitcoin is not a dominant.

I don’t think so Altcoin will replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the king of the market. It was the first cryptocurrency launched in 2009 which initiated the crypto market and therefore it enjoys the first mover advantage. Despite so many years of struggle and the new alt coins being introduced, Bitcoin has been able to maintain it top position in the crypto market. It still has the highest market capitalization and the adoption rate. However, future is uncertain anything can happen but Bitcoin will dominate the crypto market at least for a decade.
