Soon people will invite some more ECO way to mine I am sure.

It is true that people will invent more and more efficient machines, but it will be harder and harder to make improvement as the current generation of ASICs are already in 28nm technology.

Bitcoin Mining = environmental disaster.  Don't get me wrong, I do it....but I wish there was a better way...

Cows farting to the atmosphere -- enviromental disaster - do you eat hamburgers? Tongue

I think miners are less harming ecosystem than any mechanical manufacture ...

We all know that there is no such a thing as a free electricity in case you steal It from electricity pylon or you have your own wind power plant and the wind makes you the electricity  Wink

You didn't find out yet where your neighbor's power outlet is located?  Grin

So that's what that long orange cable attached to my outside outlet is!

Wonder what happens if I unplug it... Roll Eyes

-snip-

There is a big difference in something being "free" or "free for me".

I just want to recommend people to think twice before using their parents or someone elses electricity without telling them, if I were to find out that someone is trying to earn money while making me pay for it I would throw that rig to the moon since the bitcoin and altcoin value surely isn't going there anytime soon.

Sorry if that was not clear in my initial post. I strongly support telling whoevers electricity you are using that you use it. And an estimate of your needs. Its a big difference if they expect you to "load up your cellphone or laptop" but you "double their bill" within 3 hs.

Mining takes up A LOT of electricity, in the thousands per month just on electricity.

A better idea would be to:

1) Make your own electricity company and use that electricity
2) Use water and/or windmills to generate electricity for you to use while mining
3) Make your own solar panels and use the electricity generated by them to mine
4) Fall in a tube of toxic waste, then get struck by lightning, thereby granting you the powers of Static Shock, and generate your own electricity
5) Learn a Jutsu from Naruto and call lightning down from the heavens to generate electricity for mining
6) Don't do any of the things mentioned above because it may result in, death, loss of limbs, loss of head, severely burned skin, nausea, vomiting, and extreme diarrhea

*In the case that you actually become Static Shock, I as shown in this agreement will recieve 1/2 of the electricity generated by you from then on*

I am not a rig owner but I was wondering how to get free electricity - till now I didn't solved it Smiley

We had some illegal ways, but some legal ways to get free electricity are:

- life with your parents / someone else who pays for electricity
- setup a mining rig at a place that offers free electricity. E.g. university, a cafe or similar. Usually this will not work because you cant leave your rig there, but only set it up for a short period of time.
- ask at your company/workplace if you can install a rig somewhere. Depending of the kind of company and their elecricity needs, they will not even notice.
- get a flat where electricity is included in the rent.

That is still no free elektricity, you simply let someone else pay while you are making money of it.
It is bad and you should feel bad...

Well if someone else pays for it, thats free for me. Why should I feel bad about that? To clearify: I dont do that, but even if I would, I dont see why I should feel bad about it. If someone offers me free electricity, they cant complain about me taking it.

I would definetly be against my parents paying, but I take full advantage of my electricity bill being included in rent Smiley  If I had the money for enough miners I would suck tons of power out of this place.  They charge 3$ to use a tiny washing machine for 30 minutes!

Ive heard of people setting a hole near a street lamp and running a wire into the setup.   this was not mining but drugs but its a similar deal in needing lots of elec

would it be worth the risk because, drugs is illegal so you can use such illegal activities to get the electricity .
But bitcoin on other hand is legal and these would just get you caught.

You've just given everyone here a very nice idea on how to get some free electricity. Just be careful not to get caught for stealing electricity.
