I have to agree with several others here. The Beginners & Help board is enough to cover anything related members that are new to the forum and also to cover any questions members of any rank might want to ask therefore a new board is not necessary. Since you seem to have consensus maybe you should lock the thread.

Just a random idea, put forth your opinion.

I'd tell any 5 year old to ask their parents if they really want to know about Bitcoin.
And Bitcointalk is not allowed for under 18 people.
An unofficial forum rule?
I mean since no one is interested to know if I am a man or a woman, who cares to know if I am 13 or 96?

Any plans to introduce KYC?

Beginners and help board is sufficient. A member could just ask for ELI5, although it's up to other member how well they can explain things as simple as possible. Although for complex stuff or specific question, ELI5 doesn't seem to be possible.
This is what I thought would be the problem too, that it's going to be difficult to explain some of the crypto information like you're talking to a 5-year old, it's going to be difficult task especially if there's not a lot of people that are adept at that field and it's difficult to do it to those that will answer the questions and do the explaining because if they only have a surface knowledge, they're bound to have a hard time dumbing down the answers to make it easy for someone to understand and also there's the terms that are really difficult to explain like cryptospace, cryptocurrency, bitcoin core and many more.

Yeah, it's very rare to see great simple explanation about new or complex topic (an example for LN). Even those who somewhat familiar with the topic usually tends to use unfamiliar terms.

Maybe just copy the answer of the other users to your questions and then paste it in ChatGPT then ask the AI to simplify it or do a prompt like this: "Explain this next sentence like you're explaining it to a five-year old kid." From there you can tweak the prompt to make specific requests to your liking.

It's rather controversial idea though, especially if you don't put discalimer that ELI5 comes from other user reply with help of ChatGPT. And without double-check and some re-writing (which takes some time), i expect mixed result.

Seriously? Is it a joke or the truth? I didn't knew something like this (rule) existed. Lol.  Smiley

It doesn't exist. I'm sure BitcoinGirl was just kidding.

To start, there's no real way to enforce age limits without invasive KYC checks, which ain't cool.  And even if we did, would it be worthwhile?

I also had to Google what is Eli5 because I didn't hear it before. Well, first of all I'm not sure that Bitcointalk is easiest subject to explain in this way.
Keeping it short and simple should be enough. Even if a person didn't knew what Bitcoin was, upon seeing the board name "Bitcoin discussion" or "altcoin discussion" or in his case "Beginners and help", one would instantly understand that something named "Bitcoin" is being discussed in this certain board.

Pardon if I don't understand joke here but, you don't have to be 5 years old to ask for eli5, it just means you are asking for something to be explained in simplest way possible.

And Bitcointalk is not allowed for under 18 people.

Ok that's new. I'm sure users are following it  Tongue

BTW, thanks y'all for input, no need for new childboard for eli5, just use eli5 in title, sounds good.

I didn't even knew what ELI5 meant until I looked it up on google. Lol, for me  Grin. I think there are also many users like me who doesn't know or familiar with this term ELI5. Not all of us are native English speaker. That's why the confusion.

On the other hand, Beginners and help board represents exactly what's written in the title name. So as you said, It's sufficient.

I also had to Google what is Eli5 because I didn't hear it before. Well, first of all I'm not sure that Bitcointalk is easiest subject to explain in this way. And maybe there is no need to copy things from Reddit because not everything fits here.
And finally, user always can add ELI5 tag on title when he makes topic in Beginners and help board.

And Bitcointalk is not allowed for under 18 people.
What? This is first time when I here such thing. Or maybe I don't get joke? Cheesy Anyway, it would difficult to detect that 5 year old kid using this forum, unless theymos will ask him to pass KYC procedure.

Eli5 sub on Reddit explains complicated things minus the complications, handy for beginners. Why not bitcointalk have same sub for crypto stuff?

Just a random idea, put forth your opinion.

It is not necessary because the beginners and help board already largely resembles it. This is not reddit where we have the the power to create as many subreddits or boards as will. Already there are many boards that have been requested for several months but are held up at the back of the administration's queue and aren't likely to be granted any time soon.

User can add [ELI5] tag on the title for the thread they are creating either info or question thread. I saw many post on reddit that you usually just add ELI5 on their title to inform all the user that will read the topic that the discussion should be on ELI5.

But most answer and question on the B&H is already on ELI5 form except for those users that typically answering in complete technical perspective because they assume the OP has basic knowledge on Bitcoin in general.

It's not needed on Bitcointalk because on this forum members can easily understand the threads of Beginners & Help board and there are plenty of such threads present on that board. Those topics are written in a very simple way that anyone can understand those topics easily. If I'm not wrong then we don't have members who are 5 years old on this forum and that's why it would be unnecessary to create a child board in the Beginners & Help board.

If you think the threads at Beginners & Help board are somehow tough for beginners then you can create your own threads at that board and explain the topics in a way that even 5 year old child could understand those topics. I would suggest you to use basic language if you want everyone to understand the topics. Although, it's not necessary but if you want to do it then you can do it without any issues.

We were all confused newcomers once. But, the Beginners & Help board seems fine without additional child boards or categories.  It serves its purpose as is. When posting questions or advice there, explain things in a simple way beginners can grasp. And if you don't understand something yourself, requesting an ELI5 style breakdown can help clear confusion.

You have good idea but I think beginner and help board is okay the way it is with the forum rules. If anyone is interested in learn the language and words used in beginners and help board is quite clear enough for anyone to understand.

Maybe local board can explain better for non English countries to understand the forum better.
Even if there is Eli5 people will still complain that they don't understand even as explained to laymans's understanding.

If there is Eli5 sub board links without good information will increase and spam post will increase, shitty posts will be filled all over the place in the name of beginners not understanding the forum yet.

And this can lead to such board being ignored by many members of the forum.

Bitcointalk is not Reddit.

If you look at beginners & help board, you will know that it does not need any child board. It is good as it is. Make your posts explanatory in a way beginners can be able to understand, especially if you are posting under beginners & help board.

When I was a newbie, I was able to understand posts on most board that are not about technical discussions.

You mean Beginners & Help

I thought I was clear enough. A child board called 'eli5' under beginner's help. Like, 'New Forum Software' under 'Meta'.

Edit: oh you mean, beginners and help is sufficient. Okay.
