I'm still hard at work on updates!

Not much I can share right now, but, things are moving along.

Apologies again on the delayed manual payout.  I'm currently working on some code in that area and as soon as I've verified everything works properly with the updated code I'll get the manual payout done!  I was shooting for yesterday but ran into some snags.  Hopefully will have everything needed for that validated by tomorrow.

I'm hoping this could be improved upon with the upcoming upgrade?

Definitely. One of the things that will be improving with the coming updates is the payout queue. Specifically, the percentage of blocks that make it longer will be reduced to near zero.

very glad to read that! I am waiting for a month as well. I guess pool's luck is very bad now days Smiley
a question:
if we find a block with a very large fee (like 10 btc or more, due to some wallet's error) then are we able to send back that fee as a pool, technically?

I think as long as there is enough buffer in the 1ChANGeATMH... address the pool should be able to pay back for such mistakes. Currently there is a 78 BTC buffer in that address, which seems a little too much for the current pool hash rate.

I sure hope the next block we solve does not go into that address  Cry.

Not meaning to be a troll or confrontational but I have been in payout queue for nearly a month.  When I first reached the queue, I was behind a 5 block delay.  Since then, somewhere around 7-9 blocks have been found and my delay is still 5 blocks.

I like eligius and want to stay with it, and I do appreciate the work WK does.  Additionally, I have a rough idea of how the queue works but I haven't ever experienced this long of a delay in payout.  It's just discouraging to see the line stay the same, especially these days when blocks are few and far between.

I'm hoping this could be improved upon with the upcoming upgrade?

Anyway, I'm just throwing this out there and truly do not want to make any trouble.  I know WK is honest and runs the pool on his own blood, sweat and tears...

The payout queue is a bit long at the moment because I've been doing some back end work that has made it more complicated to do a manual payout at the moment.

I'm confident I'll be at a good point where I'll get that knocked out within the next 24 hours and clear the queue back to one block (normal).

Hi

I had worked out in my head that the time I mined with a 7 block wait from your blocks page might take weeks to payout, so I decided it best to point elsewhere, didn't check on the stats for a few days then today saw I had gone backwards, but if its normally 1 or even 2 blocks till payment then I could live with that ... If normal is just 1 block, then I would be happy to start mining again

Thanks for the reply

Hi Guys

I only mined a few days last week for the first time on eligius, I stopped and turned off because it wasn't until the third day I started to read about when I would get any payout, and it seemed to me that it would be ages, so I stopped, at that time the stats page was telling me that I had 181BTC in the queue before me and that it would be about 7 Blocks until I got my payout, which I thought was to much for me to wait, today a few days later I visited to check on progress and it now says there is 210 BTC or about 8 blocks till my payout

Help, How can it be that I go backwards?

If you stop mining your payout priority decreases, also other miners can join the payout queue.

its unfortunate but I cannot go weeks without getting paid, and even before I stopped the stats page suggested it would be 7 blocks, which was way to long for me, and now its 8 blocks because I stopped, thats a bit of a catch 22 isnt it

Your answer suggests that as I have stopped, I will probably never get my small 0.3 BTC, I am already going backwards, how do I checkout or figure a date for possible checkout

You'll eventually get it if you stop, but don't think you'll be paid out before the people who are submitting new shares. The priority goes to the newest shares submitted, if you drop out your newest shares remain the same while others have newer shares sent to the pool. But what you were missing was, that amount  you get paid keeps going up as you stay mining on the pool, once the payout queue is entered you will be paid for every valid share you submit until you are paid out, then you have to wait again to enter the payout queue, so leaving with 7 blocks ahead at 0.30BTC when your turn came up you could have been looking at a 0.6BTC payout.

7 Blocks doesn't necessarily mean weeks, if the pool is lucky and fines 8 Blocks today you could have been paid out today. But if you are living / paying bills daily off of your mining income then you may need to re think the pool you are on, a more reliable payout also usually comes with less of a reward. Also the payout queue is the automated system, wizkid has sent out and cleared the payout queue manually before.

Something needs to be done because the time for mining has increased significantly.
My six Rockminers are taking almost 20 days to do the work I used to do in less than 7 days.
The throughput at Eligius has also dropped because of the drop off of contributors !!!

If the Bitcoin keeps trending this way, in 5 years only a handful of people will still be mining and
Bitcoin will come to an end.  Something has to change...

Not much can be done about that.  Nothing to do with Eligius, really.  Just more miners online in general causing the difficulty to increase and earnings per hash to trend lower and lower.

Maybe the upcoming halving to 12.5 BTC/block will change the landscape a bit.

the halving will only further reinforce "economy of scale" for large miners. but it shouldnt be a surprise - most people saw it coming for years now, ever since the first time when people paying >$0.20/kwh were squeezed out due to poor or negative profitability.

the greatest force for decentralization is if price rises faster than the hashrate, which is unsustainable for more than a few months at a time

Hi everyone,

Made some progress on new code, but should make substantially more progress starting tomorrow.  I'll have roughly double the normal amount of time I have for free-time projects like Eligius for a couple of weeks. Smiley

I actually am on vacation starting today, but I had to promise my wife that I would not to spend all of my off time at my desk, so, working on some spring cleaning and other odds and ends as well.

More to come!

Wish you some quality time with your wife, happy HOLIDAYYY  Wink Cheesy Grin Cool
