someone probably made a software that allowed them to go through all the forum profiles, filter the ones that dont have emails public then filter those that are inactive and then work from the final list
But according to the victims, the email was sent from [email protected]. The forum maybe attacked (like its downtime few days before). Can the forum improve its security?

lol you should probably do some google. hint: search for "spoof emails".
that doesn't have anything to do with the security of the forum.

Theymos always improved the forum's security whenever he finds a vulnerability.

you can simply spoof it with php, and it comes from vps, so i guess it's written in PHP and just looped over all loaded addresses Smiley

do u guys make your emails public public on the forum?
At least I don't. I see that the victims is having their email address shown to public. BTW admin mustn't send ref links to us (because it is the forum rule). If he need to send something to us then it must be related to the forum.

Any emails that end up in the spam folder that has included links in it are, well, dangerous to me. The best thing that you can do is to never click in it, as there might be some malware waiting in that link that may end up ruining your pc and steal information from you.

Hi,

Have you had enough of Cloud Mining Ponzi Systems?

Why not start your own, for as little at 0.5 BTC you could have your own Cloud Mining Ponzi open earning you ~50 - 100 Bitcoin.

[URL HIDDEN] <-- Download The CloudMiningPonzi Script and you could have ~50 - 100 Bitcoin within the next 2 days!

Regards,

BitcoinTalk Admin

It becomes obvious that bitcointalk admins or theymos would never actually send such an email to the members. So best to avoid it. Also It might not be the email taken from your bitcointalk account, but rather from another service you might have used in the past.

Probably from those fishy giveaways that ask bitcointalkers for their email, there have been a few of those in the last weeks so im assuming thats how they get our emails

Yeah, it's a scam and not actually from bitcointalk.org. Your email client should have marked it as spam.

It's a phishing attack and don't click on the link. I'm surprised that your email is hidden and still the hacker could send you an email? Did you post your email ID here on bitcointalk forum?
nope

btw headers...
