There's no need to be upset
thank you so much for the answers, I wasn't aware of the other topics created on this suject (couldn't find them on the search).
I believe this topic already has extensive information on the subject and explanation on the good and bad points of embedding and that's why I'm closing it now.

the

is a "good enough" solution for not having to host the video thumbnail in a different website like imgur.

thanks a lot for all the responses and for helping.

The forum was design for a reading habit plain text so that all will be encourage to read. It seems others did not get this point until now?

However, still this is my assumption that cryptocurrency are datas or algorithm represented by letters as codes such as bitcoin addresses. So a cryptocurrency user must be always watchful to avoid getting mistakes.

I believe @dkbit98 wanted to say about the page speed and not the bandwidth. And it's true, a page with a video embedded decreases the page loading time. It must be horrible for users with a smartphone/tablet

Yesh, I'm an avid mobile user so I can definitely relate to that. :c

You don't need to do a screenshot. Use this for the image inside the link:

Code:
https://img.youtube.com/vi/video-id/0.jpg

Where "video-id" is the random-looking thingy from a Youtube URL. So like this:

On mobile, it's way more difficult. You have to edit the URL, then manipulate the BBcodes to incorporate both image and the URL. Not to mention that multitasking on mobile is already cumbersome to begin with.

Also, it's easier for users to clickbait (e.g. Rickroll).

I hope this will never be implemented. It will be a real nuisance, especially if the quoting dick heads start nesting them in their quotes.
I'm not against OP suggestion, this feature is convenient thing if used properly. But probably it wouldn't work well on Bitcointalk because many users aren't following posting etiquette. Members who are here for long time (Hero, Legendary members) making pyramid quotes, it's common thing unfortunately. So, theyvwould probably abuse such feature as well.
On other forums embedding Youtube videos, tweets and etc is useful thing. It's convenient to watch content without leaving forum.

You try to follow this method.

How to embed youtube video in post?

You can't

You can put a picture and put URL of the video.

What if I tell all of you that there is another way or work around? you won't need to upload image to any proxy Smiley

Ok follow me...

1. Get the Youtube video link e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc2en3nHxA4 (Remember this id Gc2en3nHxA4)
2. There are 4 a default thumbnail images to each video the, URL to these images will be like

Code:
https://img.youtube.com/vi//0.jpg
https://img.youtube.com/vi//1.jpg
https://img.youtube.com/vi//2.jpg
https://img.youtube.com/vi//3.jpg

3. Now to add or embed youtube video, add img tag and replace Youtube Video id

Code:
[img]https://img.youtube.com/vi/Gc2en3nHxA4/0.jpg[/img]

4. Now add URL tag and point URL to actual youtube video

Code:
[url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc2en3nHxA4][img]https://img.youtube.com/vi/Gc2en3nHxA4/0.jpg[/img][/url]

5. Final result, Youtube video, click to play Smiley

You will get the result.

Hey folks,

wondering here, is there any way to embed youtube videos (or other players) when posting on bitcointalk?
did some research but didn't find the answer.

if it is possible, how to do it?
if it's not, why? isn't it easier to have the small player embeded, specially for short videos?
sometimes videos can add a lot to the discussion.

thanks
(sorry if this is off or don't belong here, lmk and I can delete it.)
And now you will find the answer. I shared this toturial a while ago and it works fine as long as you don't do prohibited things with it. Good luck.

How about video?
But you cant upload videos to the forum instantly because the forum doesnt support it. You must take a number of steps so you can direct people to your video by:
  • Send video link on post.
  • Create thumbnails that contain video links.

The step you have to do is:
1. Get the right picture.
2. Turn the picture into a link with imgur or others
3. Get the video link that you want to upload
4. Make a post like this.
Code:
[url=https://youtu.be/SLsGc-3dQa8][img width=500]https://i.imgur.com/5a0mhOJ.jpg[/img][/url]

Example:

Not everyone likes it because it can slow down page loading. But it doesn't matter if you want to do it to give your post a bit of color and style.

Also, manual screenshots take alot of effort especially if it's from a mobile user. YouTube embed does this fine.

Where "video-id" is the random-looking thingy from a Youtube URL. So like this:

Loading...

Now imagine this being regular-sized (not reduced to 200 pixels like I did above) and in every other post. Perhaps auto-playing as well. Also let's allow embedding tweets and other facegrams because why not.

But the truth is that it's a shame not to be able to embed the videos in the forum.
Eh, I've been enjoying the forum just fine for over five years without members having the ability to embed Youtube or other videos.  That might work on some chat boards, but this is bitcointalk.  Anything that can be abused will be abused--and in the case of embedded videos, especially if lower-ranked members were allowed to do it.

Also, we are preventing other members from trolling with a clickbait image and direct to an unknown source.
Yep, preventing that and I'm sure a whole lot of other abuses that would crop up if it were allowed.  It might be an inconvenience for members like OP, but IMO it's much better the way we have it right now.

There are a lot of members already suggested by that instead you can use the hyperlink like we are doing on the images.

Code:
[url=*link]*img thumbnail[/url]

One of the factors why we don't use the videos mostly to our forum because it takes time to load the whole thread.

I recently experience this kind of problem in a recent art contest I'm using my mobile phone and it looks a few minutes before the thread fully loaded the same with the videos for sure it consumes a lot of time and data.

Bitcointalk has surely an 'unlimited' bandwidth but saves a lot by using Cloudflare, so the problem is not here.

(*unlimited is a marketing trick from web hosting companies most of the time)

...

I don't know if it's still possible with Youtube, but instead, to send bots traffic to your video link, people were able to cheat the system by embedding it into a page (a forum is good since they don't pay the hosting) and then to send traffic to the thread link via autosurfs and alike

I don't want to see video ever embedding in this forum for many reasons (few of them are privacy and security), and I don't see why posting link and screenshot is not enough.

Videos in forum will mostly make trolls and spammers happy and maybe even slow forum down.

Actually no, the videos are hotlinked from YouTube so they do not utilized lots of bandwidth except for the image preview and embedding, which are pretty negligible.

Also, manual screenshots take alot of effort especially if it's from a mobile user. YouTube embed does this fine.

Both the youtube player and the video content is streamed from Youtube's server. The only price you pay is the few bytes it takes to add the video player embed code in your HTML pages.

Just post a link with a description and give us the choice of triggering the link. Why should I slow down thread loading and waste bandwidrh just to display some juvenile or noisy video.

sometimes videos can add a lot to the discussion.

Yeah... no. Most videos you can expect to be posted here would take 20 minutes and gigamegs of bandwidth to say what can be said in a couple of paragraphs. Unless you're doing dancing lessons (in which case just link to your video), videos are a useless distraction on this forum.

Yeah like the others have said it'll be for tracking and security.

Images are proxies via the forum for this reason and may be stripped ofalicious parts or trackers thst can identify the person who accessed the forum page. The same should theoretically happen with videos and then there'd be the question as to who to whitelist? Would you just include YouTube and look preferential or would you go further to unbanning other sites and allowing them to track user activity?

If the url link is put inside the img link, it will not work.

If it is for privacy, I understand. But the truth is that it's a shame not to be able to embed the videos in the forum. You can do what you say but it's not the same.
Animated avatars are not allowed so it is logic to see videos are not allowed.

I believe theymos has commented somewhere on this before as to why it's not done. Maybe it has something to do with google's tracking and whatnot, but why is this essential? For better/nicer formatting? If so, just create a screenshot of the video and use the image to link to the youtube video once clicked.
