I hope this will happen soon. I've spent half my life on flights. Every quarter I do a lot of  business class flights to Glasgow  to my business partners.
I would like to see an expansion of the payment options for airlines as soon as possible.

To be honest, this is not a positive thing, but I think overall BTC will grow soon

I rather die on my feet than to live on my knees
to be honest i don't see this as a positive news at all because it looks like they are trying to advertise themselves so that they can sell their NFT token and make as much money as they can.

How is it not? The fact is, people can now pay using bitcoin, and at the same time them adopting it will give bitcoin more and more legitimacy. That in itself is great news adoption-wise, regardless if they planned on selling NFTs or not.

I kinda agree with this. It's true that the NFT part wouldn't be needed but from an economic strategy standpoint, it makes sense for them to be able to accept Bitcoin for the regular service of their core business, which is to sell seats in their plains, and on the other end, they will sell NFTs as kind of a merchandise (or whatever). It's at least 2 new income sources instead of just one!

If Emirates Airlines decides to start accepting bitcoin as payment for services, this will be a happy development. Our Nigerian leaders enjoy visiting Dubai, and by doing so, they will feel better about us. The ban on cryptocurrencies in Nigeria will be slightly eased during the period of account freeze.

Emirates Airline News
As part of its ambition to engage with customers in a manner that is both faster and more flexible, Emirates, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, intends to use cutting-edge digital technologies such as blockchain, metaverse, and cryptocurrency.

The Chief Operating Officer of Emirates, Adel Ahmed Al-Redha, has said that the airline intends to employ Bitcoin as a payment service while simultaneously introducing non-fungible tokens, also known as NFT collectibles on the company’s websites for trading purposes, making these remarks while attending the Arabian Travel Market reports Arab News on May 11.

Al-Redha also stated to a media gathering that the airline headquartered in Dubai will hire new staff for the metaverse and NFTs, in an effort to develop applications to monitor customer needs.  Smiley

Don't know how I didn't see this earlier would have asked them about it (I always use one of the Gulf airlines travelling home)

But I actually already used several airlines with Bitcoin, but via travelbybit. They cost a lot more on regular routes but the exotic routes, especially those with >1 transit? They cost cheaper when paying with Bitcoin.

Only problem comes later with some slight adjusting with the airlines itself IF your flight gets changed etc but otherwise I booked several returns on long distance and saved quite a bit.

Actually haven't found anyone else I know using it. Anyone here does?

And on the airlne subject, anyone look into AirBaltic's... latest crypto er, gig?

Against the background of all the bad news lately and the terrible state of the markets at the moment, here is some positive news which should put some more confidence in the newbies, that not everything is lost, and how the bitcoin market died for 1000th time, again.
Don't get fooled by the news sources saying that Bitcoin is dead and crypto is just a bubble. This type of narrative has been around since satoshi's era so, let's focus on the positive.

Here's the link to the news..

The United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s leading airline, Emirates Airline, will soon embrace “bitcoin as a payment service,” the company’s chief operating officer (COO) Adel Ahmed Al-Redha has said. In addition, the airline will add non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles on its webpage.

Reports of the airline’s plan to embrace bitcoin come just a few weeks after it revealed its NFT and metaverse plans. As reported by Bitcoin.com News, the company’s goal with the metaverse launch is to ensure the airline is “aligned with the UAE’s vision for the digital economy.”

If you consider how much money is flowing around the crypto market at any point and the relatively good liquidity available to convert it into cash, it's reaching the point where bitcoin should be integrated into most payment processors soon enough. There might have to be price limits because higher amounts are harder to convert instantly. These sorts of companies are going to convert these bitcoins to cash instantly because they're unlikely to want any volatility longer term.

I think I've heard of similar news about some airlines accepting cryptos as payment, but what sets this one apart is that it's a country's leading airline, not just one of barely known ones. I think Bitcoin can be great for airline tickets because the price is usually significant enough for a couple of dollars of fees to go unnoticed. It's also often not an urgent purchase (there's time to wait for the transaction confirmation). But I suspect they'll accept Bitcoin via some payment manager, right, not as transfers to a Bitcoin address directly?
In any case, this won't fix the price situation but it's nice to hear.

Definitely positive news. Amidst all that’s going on, market drops and everything, people (well, some people) losing confidence in crypto, Emirates kinda “boosted” the Bitcoin validity with this move. Especially considering that the Dubai airport is the world's busiest airport for international passengers.

Emirates Airline is one of the major airlines which will certainly have a lot of positive impacts if it properly adopts bitcoin as a payment service option. This will be a big positive news that will attract investors to start re-entering bitcoin.

Emirates is indeed trying to develop their digital economy and of course bitcoin is one of them and they will also add a collection of NFT (non-fungible tokens) on their website. Emirates is interested in getting into the world of the Digital Metaverse and NFT.

this will certainly encourage Emirates Airline airline users to enter their digital world and get to know Bitcoin, NFT and the world of Metaverse they will create.

Once a man, twice a child!
Whatever that makes Bitcoin headline, is positive news to me. It's positive to me because it creates more milage and exposure for Bitcoin when the news comes off as a ban/restriction or adoption and use. More people get to hear and read about Bitcoin whenever it's mentioned. That's for sure. For a positive news such as its use is by Emirates Airline now, that's a double positive. It's a win–win for both sides, Emirates and Bitcoin. More of such news will continue to keep Bitcoin in demand and out of murky waters.

Sorry to interrupt your conversation, but what BitcoinHolder saying might be true. There is an airlines company Airbaltic that claim they accepts Bitcoin as a payment (airBaltic - World’s First Airline To Accept Bitcoin). But in fact they never did. In 2019 I had a connection flight in Latvia and tried to buy a ticked, the lady at the cash desk was sitting with huge round eyes, when I tried to explain what is cryptocurrency and Bitcoin. Neither there was an option to pay in crypto when trying to get a ticked online.

Emirates are larger company, and maybe they will really have that option, but as BitcoinHolder said, it might be just a hype.

This airline is the largest in Middle East and operates to above 150 cities across 6 continents. In 2020 the International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimated that Emirates carried over 15.8 million passengers making it largest international airline that year.  This news is good for the publicity of Bitcoin and it would definitely increase the use and acceptability of this outstanding cryptocurrency. Also, Emirate is very influential in the Middle East, hence many other firms would soon join this company to adopt Bitcoin.

I think it's more like promotional marketing than actual practical innovation.

You own the pen
They just wanted to be updated on this trend and this is a good thing for us because once again bitcoins will have some extra exposure in the market and free advertisement in the middle east. If alike of them accept bitcoins, the other companies might want to try to consider accepting BTC as well. Though the market is not looking good right now and the news about bitcoins nowadays are not bright, you cannot stop this company from implementing such a service because they also had undergone some investigation and meetings before they released such decisions.

one good news for the adoption of BTC itself, although there are airline promotions behind it I think it's reasonable because they are looking for consumers for it,
but if for NFT what will they sell , this is a question mark .
at least adopting bitcoin as payment is enough to make them qualify for laden from UAE if technology issues

No argument that this is best news you will hear for bitcoin as a payment method, even though I doubt how many people are actually going to use this feature still such a big company giving this option gives a great sense of positivity into the market, with bitcoin payment logo people all around the globe will start to feel much more confident on bitcoin as an asset as well as payment method both.

Every publicity is good for Bitcoin and besides this one is actually not the negative one so when they actually start to accept Bitcoin it should be a major boost again plus we already know that the region has a positive acceptance for Cryptocurrencies and I also believe they could push their NFT without associating bitcoin if they wanted that.
