Seriously now, can't the v2 link redirect to the v3 until it's officially shut down? Just to prevent that temporary misleadingness.
You obviously can't redirect an onion domain using domain records so they'd have to replace the site HTML with a meta http-equiv refresh[1] to the new onion domain, which may or may not be feasible for them to do.
