Its not Ethereum that was hacked guys. It was third party shit of a company called parity. Ambiguous news like this is what brings ETH price down. Come on guys. ETH is golden. Protect our investment!

We know that buddy, that is what they said as well when the DAO was exploited. lol. Growth is great but too much growth especially when it is inorganic will just attract unnecessary people/entities. Gavin runs parity, remember that Gav written most of Ethereum's code about 90% of it. And he is the creator of the solidity language.

Although I have some eth, I like to see the price plummet so bad, not because I wanted to buy lower but because I wanted to see these new comers get burned.
Thats too harsh buddy and it seems you do really love for those new comers to get burned.  It will really definitely happen specially for those people who dont have much idea on entering without knowing the recent events on eth ecosystem. Prices will really roll back specially theres a lots of coins have been hacked already.

someone who has "not much idea" should not enter without proper research and education. as price drops and they lose money it is not based on bad luck, it would be because of stupidity.
what you said is true only if someone by accident loses money. like if your hardware fails (HDD dying for example) and you lose your wallet with the money in it.

some newbie who enters trading like a sheep who is following others who told him "ether is the future" deserves to lose money, maybe that can snap him out of it. and i know it is harsh but it is an ugly truth.
This is why its really important for us to know the latest or current news of a particular coin if we do tend to putt up our money not just like on jumping in without any idea on whats going on the that particular coin. Following others words would really put us on harm later on thats why as a newbie its been always suggested dont easily believe on the things around you and you should really study and study until you will gain knowledge to avoid such lose.

cause there's no better teacher than your own learning and experience. And what's the best way to learn? lose your money.

BTC to the moon is inevitable...
where did these ether coins move to? any updates on this news.
i can see from those links that both addresses have their balances halved, the "total out" is nearly half the balance.
did the hackers already cash out Cheesy

I don't care about these hacking attacks as I know these hackers will be caught ultimately, monero or that kind of coins' transactions can be tracked.

ETH is actually difficult to hack, most of them who lost their money caused because they enter their private key in web fishing.

We will not know what will happen in the future for etherwallet, we will see how the vital action to deal with things like this
The problem is... NO BODY CARES.
Which means, Vitalik will not send that losted ETH back to the owners.
Also ETH blockchain sucks, lacking with sidechains.
And I don't like thier politic on the market.
It's a big money bubble based on smart-contracts.

This is why we need a coin like Tezos, with formal verification.

It definitely seems that ETH has many flaws even though it some may not be related to ETH it's self. I dont know why these new projects don't try using other platforms to launch their ICO's...But then again ETH may be getting all of this attention from hackers because its currently #1. Maybe if another platform becomes just as popular we will see the same thing happen.

For people to keep trusting Ethereum smart contracts with hundreds of millions of dollars when people developing for ethereum clearly don't have any real experience or knowledge to actually security test the stuff they're deploying is just craziness. With all the crazy inconsistencies in Solidity as well as the sloppy approach to updates that they push in Ethereum updates (look at the Geth update that changed address handling that cost QuadrigaCX $14 million worth of ETH) and it's just crazy that people are willing to build anything financially important on top of Ethereum.

I think just proves Tezos is taking the right approach here-it's using less popular languages that really only appeal to developers who give a crap about verifying their contracts are secure before deployment, but that's exactly what all these financial contracts SHOULD be. Nobody should just be deploying contracts to manage hundreds of millions of dollars without giving a second thought to critical bugs.

Anybody who really thinks Ethereum can be "fixed" to work well for these sorts of uses needs to read a couple things:
This post and comments were from before the hack even happened:

And the comments in this thread are also very enlightening:

No and I don' think there will be another fork in the future of ethereum. Besides, 110 million usd should be in the wallet of white hat hackers

Yes people from ICN and SWT confirmed it was a group they were working with that did the whitehat hack so the funds are 100% sure to be returned. And even if its not Vitalik already said there won't be another fork.
as i said in my previous comment, i tend to stick to facts not promises.
and someone pointed out something very interesting about last time, and the fact that the White Hat hacker tried to sell part of the saved coins on poloniex!

Quote
The reason for the previous fork was that the hackers would control too large a stake of the ethereum network which would be to their advantage after a PoS switch. This time even counting the whitehat we are only looking at 3% of the ethereum network, its just that its got a much higher value now due to ethereum having gone up in value.
this is correct. and i did not know this when i created the topic. i did some research yesterday which found out DAO hack was something around 14% of the total supply i believe. but the important part is still the fact that the main Ether holders lost money not the poor nobody users like this hack.
but the poll results are still funny though, despite Vitalik saying fork is not going to happen and this reason, and all the explanations still 35% voted YES. it seems like everyone loves free altcoins they can get and dump Cheesy

another huge loss for ethereum owners when the parity wallet multisignature was hacked and the hacker stole 153,037 ETH which is nearly $32 million worth of ETH.

also another group of hackers took the opportunity to drain all the similar multisig addresses with the same vulnerability in ETH and similar tokens.
so far they have hacked the total amount of 379,999 ETH which is nearly $80 million worth of ETH

Do you think we will see another roll-back like the DAO $50 million hack and will it leave us with ETH 2.0 fork? Grin

Isn't the second group white hat hackers that will return the funds?

Oh well that makes it ok then  Cheesy

I find this topic amusing LOL
..my new fav.

ETH = ICO scam.
