IMHO nobody cares now about futures) More will depend from new projects. More new ICO - higher ETH price.

I think the pattern will go uphill. It is now going up as of today price with a little bit. But considering the market cap, we need to increase it 5x fold to go back again to number 2 spot and beat xrp on their current position.

I think most coins are still striving but eth still firm on going on a reversal before this year ends.

Well we all know that happens to bitcoin when all this so called future contracts open, yes there is a floodgates of money coming in but for short term only. What follows is a massive sell off and complete manipulation of whales. This might be happened for Ethereum as well so I'm having a mix emotions on this one, might be good for short term, but everyone should be prepared for the long haul, just saying.

Hard to say if Ethereum futures are going to be good or bad for it. If those are used to manipulate the price of Ethereum like Bitcoin futures did, then not going to be good.

@karel88l. However the weeks going to the release of the futures market took bitcoin to its all time high. I reckon Ethereum will be pumped the same way to its all time highs also before the certain, unpreventable dump.

Uh-oh, let's hope ETH doesn't meet the same fate BTC did shortly after futures or it's done for. I don't personally believe futures are responsible for BTCs downfall but a lot of people do and if they're right then it'll be a sorry ending for ETH on the horizon.

Good news. Ethereum might be pumped to its new all time highs in the excitement of the futures market.

it will be pumped for sure but it is impossible to pump it to its previous ATH.
the previews huge pump only succeeded because of the momentum that it had plus the super hype of ICOs which was only a one time thing and will never be repeated as ICOs are nearly dead now.

In a press release published on Tuesday (December 11, 2018), the Commission expressed its desire to become better informed about cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin. According to the press release, the CFTC wants to know more about Ether tokens and the Ethereum network.

this doesn't mean there will be futures though!
the biggest issue that they will face is the fact that this coin is centralized, had an ICO and is premined and is not regulated on top of all that! in other words there is one company that fully controls ETH and manipulation is a guaranteed part of it.

The current cryptocurrency futures are indeed very attractive to investors, and I think Ethereum can usher in a new turnaround through futures.

Oh, finally, they also remembered futures, earlier this was one of the topics discussed, which could also correct the fall of the ether. Then he was still at the level of $ 600, but he seems to understand that even this will not be able to help and affect the overall situation in the market. But can try.

@adaseb. I reckon an experienced trader or a whale waits and begins to accumulate when no one appears to care. This is Ethereum. The project invested in by Multicoin Capital, Marc Andreesen's cryptocoin hedge fund and other major funds.

I reckon those hedge funds might have the political influence to push the CTFC to approve Ethereum futures, pump Ethereum and dump it on their community hehehe.

I was trading ETH right when this news was released and basically almost nothing happened, maybe went up a little but might of been a pure coincidence.

I think after all that mess that the Bitcoin futures started last year, I don't think many even want an ETH Futures market. The Bitmex added the ETH/USD perp trading a few months ago and look what happened, basically almost every weekly candle since was bearish.

An ETH ETF would be different however and that might bring price back up, however since they can't get one approved for BTC, then I doubt an ETH ETF approval is on the horizon anytime soon.

What a shit, damn lol.
why do not they just focus on Bitcoin itself instead of spreading their attention into another cryptocurrency?
did they know the fact that cryptocurrency exists because of Bitcoin instead of Ethereum that was used as a tool to create those useless ICO?
damn

I think this just shows why the price of Ethereum crashed this much in the second quarter, these bankers know what they are doing, in whatever direction the market moves they make money, buy at $100 and sell at higher price. I won't say this is not good for Ethereum because it means better exposure for Ethereum and Cryptocurrencies. I will rather wait and decide later

This brings good and bad news.

Good news. Ethereum might be pumped to its new all time highs in the excitement of the futures market.

Bad news. Ethereum will be dumped liberally when the futures market is available for institutional traders and continue manipulating the price similar to what they are doing to bitcoin.

In a press release published on Tuesday (December 11, 2018), the Commission expressed its desire to become better informed about cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin. According to the press release, the CFTC wants to know more about Ether tokens and the Ethereum network.

The RFI lists a total of 25 questions about both Ether and Ethereum. The questions fall under different categories such as custody, governance, technology, etc. Across the various categories, the CFTC appears interested in knowing the similarities and differences between Ethereum and Bitcoin.

Under the “Markets, Oversight, and Regulation” section, the bulk of the questions (17 to 21) covered matters relating to Ether futures. The CFTC appears interested in knowing how the emergence of ETH derivatives would affect the network’s proof-of-work (PoW) consensus model, as well as the risks involved in trading ETH futures.

While this is conjecture, the question could signify that the Commission is looking at approving ETH futures. For the most of 2018, rumors about possible Ether futures have made the rounds within the industry. These rumors became even more intense when the SEC singled out BTC and ETH as not being securities.
