It shows a weakness in the system, but hopefully they find a way to handle the Dapps better so it doesn't affect other transactions.
Cryptokitties will only spark a trend of spin-offs and it could get pretty bad.

Ethereum Network Crashing and now leading to pending and long time confirmation. Can this lead to Ethereum fall?
No I don't consider that as crashing, the network is just congested but instead consider this as a hiccup because of ETH and ETH tokens continuous growth. There's nothing to worry as they are always on top of their game and fixing this kind of issues. There's also an announcement made by Richie for ETH tickets related in Bittrex.

This sounds right-plus the network needed to see a test before an upgrade (which might come as a critical upgrade if too many kitties are sold).

Not now! But in the future this might led to Ethereum network's failure. Just imagine there are 10 more DAPPs introduced on the network and it congestes the entire ETH network with long transactions confirmations time. They have to look for alternative solutions to the main chain soon as it will solve this problem.
