Whenever I have a losing streak that goes for more than 10 bets ( even if those bets are being placed in 1 month because I don't gamble a lot ) , I do feel the urge to win just for my ego to will better but I don't chase loses but I do understand what OP tried to say and I know that feeling. Also , in my case when that losing streak ends , it feels better ...but sometimes you lose the next bet instantly so this circle goes on and on with random cases when I do get a winning streak that usually doesn't last long...
Many people like you where they realize that when they are never win, they want to urge to win for their ego. They still trying to win even if that's mean they must place more bets without thinks that gambling is not about win and lose but how they can enjoy for playing gambling. They don't remember that in gambling, they will have more chances to lose than winning the games so they must realize that when they are lose their money in gambling, they should accept it and not trying to urge to win. That can make them lose more and more and that can change their lives if somehow they become addicted to gambling. However, they must break the circle to realize that they must leave gambling for a while.

The rules of gambling are take your loses and winnings sincerely, no second thought of going back to refill your loses by aggressively trying out more options.

If you do not earn as much, then don't attempt to stake with huge amounts that can cause financial bankruptcy.

Gambling is not a competition with whom controls the biggest profits, fun should be experienced gambling but the worst to happen is losing everything out of feeding ego and having scratched the surface of quality lifestyle.
I once followed my ego and it did make me lose control of myself including the amount of money that was indeed lost quite a lot, actually we should not refill our casino wallet balance if the previous gambling has ended in defeat and no matter you have a lot of money that might be enough to bet, still depositing money back into gambling when you have experienced a defeat is better not to do because this has the potential to last in the long term.

I think that the behavior like you said is most likely everyone who gambles has done it, including myself who has done it, but with that it made me aware not to repeat the same thing again.

I had a topic like Do you have a team or player on which you keep losing bets no matter what? and I obviously stated in it as an example the race track at Lingfield  Grin My money pit I should know better not to touch again!

Now that most tracks in UK are frozen and Lingfield is on poly it's one of the few that run, so, out of boredom I played, they had 5 clear favorites under 1/1, one was 1/6, you can guess what happened, all 6 bets on favorites lost, all 4 bets on placing from the 3rd horse lost, 4 EW lost, I won't even say tricast cause, well, D'oh!!!

So here I am, bored to death and I'm looking at the next Chelmsford City race and I feel that I should both stay out of this for the day and also just place a damn bet to win at least once so, my question for the other bettors, what do you do in such a scenario
- go out and just accept that you failed miserably at an event you know you're really bad at
- try to get at least a bet right to have at least one win for your ego
- or even one step higher, try to recoup the bets (no way I'm doing that)

I am a former horse player.  got hooked back in the sixties and lost many many many many times.

I quit the ponies.  I can give you a bit of advice. Never never never never never bet a horse under 10 to 1.

and bet smaller amounts then you bet now.

Never bet against yourself .

I e pick a horse place 5 or 10 pounds (I think you are UK)  watch the race lose move on to the next race.

Just bet win
Just bet 1 horse per race.

if the track has 10 races bet at least 10 to 1 shots.  Just one win that day and you break even.

- go out and just accept that you failed miserably at an event you know you're really bad at
It's not easy for most gamblers to accept the fact that they have failed and move on without trying to prove a point and shift blame, but in such a case I will just accept defeat and get done with it.

Quote
- try to get at least a bet right to have at least one win for your ego
The more you try to prove yourself, the more you will end up losing more; maybe this time there won't even be any near winning.

It's better I let go than to spend more money trying to prove to myself what I know I don't owe myself any explanation for failing.

So did you bet after that? Haha still trying to get a win for sure. Im jealous of your boredom time, since you can go out to make bets and refresh for a while then suddenly turn out to be stressful.

Of course, and since nobody heard screams, it won  Grin

I mean seriously, a horse that has won his last two races on the same track and distance and was upped only 1 pound in weight against horses that never won on CD, I would have banged my head against the wall if that had happened too. It won by 3 lengths, comfortably, and my misery ended.

I try to never gamble if I feel that my actions and deeds are guided by emotions.
To understand this, there is a simple test - I ask myself the question - "Is it true that I have emptiness in my soul?" If the answer is "No", then this means that my actions and deeds are guided by emotions.

And where is the fun? I'm gambling for fun not doing something that is more stressful than my actual work!

I always have to stop myself from putting bets on Man United losing, so there's that.

They play against Southampton, this is your chance  Cheesy

Quite well you are aware how really bad you are at the event, so bro quit it! As a sports bettor I really love to run off from any market that I discovers it has many times I have tried it not go in my favour, I just switch to something that have proven to work most times in my favour than it doesn't.

I understand, sometimes we want to think that by been persistent and resilient at that particular unfavourable game or market we might find breakthrough somehow, but may I remind you, you would be losing a lot of money all of the time of trying to persevere at it.

In as much as I don't take gambling as an income source, I really do love to win and catch my fun at same time but when am losing repeatedly for the day quitting is my next option to try again the next day.

When I gamble, I try to forget that I am a person. I fully concentrate on the process of the game itself. A person can really indulge his ego (while doing thoughtless, and sometimes completely crazy things).

But if you concentrate exclusively on the process of the game (and not on your personality), then your actions will be subject to logic, and not emotions.

Usually emotion will put you into the brink of misery because the tendency to follow your desires will be there. Hence, you more than likely will continue to play even if you have no more bankroll so you either borrow money or use your other money not for gambling purposes. This will eventually pose financial trouble on you.

Everyone has an ego, but we need to approach gambling based on strategy because that’s the only way to minimize risk. Of course, no one wants to lose, and it’s a human nature to want to bounce back. But remember, sportsbooks are open 24/7. You might lose today, but there’s always a chance to win tomorrow.

Treat gambling like a long-term activities, and you’ll understand that upsets like losing streaks and winning streaks are part of the game. If you go into it knowing there will be bad days and good days, your ego won’t get in the way because your approach is strategic.

The goal is simple: win more than you lose. With the right bankroll management, you’ll see success in the end.

Some people try to always win to impress others or try to show that they are better gamblers. I had a friend that has this mindset, sometimes he doesn't play to win but to show off to others that he is skilled in gambling forgetting the fact that he's just lucky. Approaching gambling with this mindset can make you lose money. This shouldn't be an ego play, you must have a target and specific target of what you want within a space of a week or a month. It doesn't matter if you lose they will always be goods days to recover, but when you notice that you start having too many losing streaks then you have to take a break.

Pride is one of the assets of human life and as a result of this, people either become rich or become poor. No one wants to lose in gambling and here everyone wants to win so those who do not reduce the strategy and the amount of gambling bets after losing are the big losers. You should consider gambling as a long term activity even after losing a few times and you will realize that losing streaks and winning streaks are part of the game. But definitely do everything with strategy because good times and bad times will come so luck is needed to win gambling bets. So you will keep winning more whenever your luck is on your side.

When I was starting out, I tried to recoup or regain my losses, but once I realized that it's not going to work in my favor, I stopped doing that. I just leave when I realize that I'm losing and things are going bad; gamblers should not mix their bets with ego; its going to be disasters waiting to happen.
Bet within your allocation; if you lose, then call it a day. Never extend your allocation because of your ego.

What’s most important, though, is learning how to be disciplined, and can be done by avoiding reckless actions like chasing losses or being unable to stop when things aren’t going our way.
With that kind of mindset, your ego won’t easily get affected. When you treat gambling like a regular job, you’ve likely gone through it all, and once you’ve learned from those experiences, you won’t repeat the same mistakes. The real issue is the lack of discipline. Without it, whether we’re winning or losing, we’ll never find peace of mind. It’s like gambling becomes endless as long as there’s still money to bet.

One thing I’ve learned is that chasing losses only leads to disaster. It’s a trap that’s hard to escape, but avoiding it can save you from bigger problems.

It was happened to me in the past where I really want my favorite team/player I bet to win.

But, I've learned from it, it's not good to hope my favorite team/player to win while the opponent is way too stronger. Hence, whenever I want to make a bet, I consider to be more objective to weight both opponents, I don't mind to bet against my favorite team/player as long as I'm sure the opponents can beat them.
Before determining and making a bet, it is indeed better for us to analyze every possibility that exists, we can look at the history of the match, conditions and also the ability of the two teams before we choose which side to bet on, just like you, I personally have often made objective choices in betting, in fact often it actually makes me get ridicule and laughter from friends when I am against my favorite team in betting So far Grin, because I also think my favorite team has a small chance of winning and as a gambler of course I also don't want to lose money , because  bet on the favorite team that has a small chance of winning, the favorite team loses of course makes me disappointed but at least I can win the bet.

I don't think everyone have such ego you're thinking of it nevertheless that hunch of gambling is something that can't be died up so easily and and approaching gambling with strategy is not really a necessity to me and at such everyone sees things differently and that's why we have people that gamble for fun and for making money out of it and mind you you're perception about having long term gambling seems outrageous cause the tendency of being into addictions is close.
I respect your opinion about gambling, but we have different approaches.
Maybe for you, it’s just for fun, but for me, it’s more than that, as it’s a way to increase my income too, call me ambitious, but that’s my perception of gambling, and it’s not something you can easily change.

What’s most important, though, is learning how to be disciplined, and can be done by avoiding reckless actions like chasing losses or being unable to stop when things aren’t going our way.

I have experienced all three of these many times...too many times.

The first scenario is certainly the wisest move, it's smart to take a break and cool your head. It saves us from making a wrong decision and losing money.

The second scenario is a double-edged sword. I have tried many times to "come back" with a last bet, and sometimes that works, but many more times I just lose that bet as well.

The third scenario is already a tilt, the moment when we are in fire. And I have found myself there perhaps too many times. As in the second scenario, it's a double-edged sword, but this time the risk is greater, the sword is bigger, and if things go the wrong way (and chances for exactly that to happen are pretty high) the damage will be greater.

So if you can take a break and chill...a new day will come and new betting opportunities will emerge.

Who fights and runs away when facing defeats lives to fight another day, no need to satisfy your ego by continuing, the defeat might become severe. It is advisable to take a break from gambling when we're on a losing streak, it shows that you're not being lucky and continuing to gamble can be disastrous. Taking a break will be the best option to clear your mind because nobody likes to lose, it affects most people negatively. I advice friends who gamble not to take it too seriously, they should use amounts that they can afford to loose and take a break when they're getting bored.
