Pugs are the best!
Not like in the OP's story but yes, when buying lottery tickets the best you can do is fantasise about what you would do if you hit the jackpot because if you get realistic you wouldn't even buy them.
Everyone does that especially when you're doing it the first time, thinking of how you'll spend your winnings if ever you hit the jackpot or even with any gambling games you play on. However, we must also know that the chances of it ever happening will be slim to none.
No offense, but your friend is quite irresponsible for promising to use money he does not even have secured <...>
You would have to be a fool, if not worse, to base future financial actions on what you anticipate you will earn from gambling.
If gambler friend is irresponsible, I guess they are too. If they already know that the funds that will be used will be from gambling, they should also expect of the possibility of it not happening. They should show compassion to their friend, not only he lose his money, he also lost his confidence due to his promise.

This story you shared is part of people's lives on what they do regularly when they have feelings that things would work as they planned. They won't withhold their joy and plans on themselves alone; they will share with some of their friends what their very plans would be like if the things they have in mind work out as predicted. When the things they feel optimistic about don't happen the way they have planned, they feel heartbroken and bittered that their hopes and targets have been shattered. What will they now tell their friends, who they told about their plans? That's how people who feel optimistic about the things they told people feel
If their plan works as they want, that will not be a problem for them to do what they say before. But we can not always see what we want can becomes true so if we can not fulfill what we say before, other people will say that we lie to them. It is better we don't say anything about our plan to them if that is not important and if that is about gambling, we don't have to give any promise to our friends because we don't have certain winning result.

When our plan is not work, we can feel heartbroken and we don't have face to say to our friends. They will judge us can not responsible with what we say.

There are different proverbs on this subject among different nations of the world. For example, "Don't divide the skin of an unkilled bear." Or "Don't say "Hop!" until you jump over." This is recklessness and self-confidence based on frivolity. When a person gets into an awkward and stupid situation in such cases, it is a good enough lesson to remind us all about humility. In most cases, we are completely in the hands of the goddess Fortuna. Gambling is not an activity in which it would be appropriate to rejoice in success in advance. Even if we are lucky and even if we are lucky many times, it is nothing more than an accident and there is no need to draw far-reaching conclusions from this.
Another popular proverb got into my head after reading the story in the OP, "Never count the chicks when the eggs have not been hatched." A relative always told me that no matter how skillful you are in gambling, any win is a product of luck. With that at the back of your mind, you wouldn't make promises based on gambling win projections. Gambling wins projections should never be part of anyone's budget because there is no assurance that any funds will come from gambling at a given time.

No offense, but your friend is quite irresponsible for promising to use money he does not even have secured, and counting on money one is wagering and expecting to "come back" multiplied because of our gambling activities is a very dangerous thing to do, since it would certainly push us to chase losses and seek for money to continue to gamble indefinitely.
As a matter of fact, I have never planned anything with money I have out as stake on a bet, because I have always keep in my mind there is a very good chance my prediction could fail. The only scenario I would see someone cocky enough to brag or plan on money they have yet to claim from a bet would be in the case of a fixed match.

Anyways, betting and gambling are supposed to be unpredictable, it is always a mistake to have high expectations or getting ahead from the present.

I see a lot of people doing this on a daily basis and it's actually very funny, having plans for an amount of money that you haven't seen is absolutely outrageous, you are putting yourself under  unnecessary pressure, Remember that this is gambling. You can place a bet of 40 games in a slip and have a cut one or two. Someone told me a story of a guy that placed a bet to win 20 million and had just one more game to round it up, he went to a bar requesting for drinks and bought for a lot of people, but at the end of the day he lost the bet.
Don't make any plans till that money is in your account

It’s best not to make plans on how to spend money when you don’t have it yet, most especially when it comes to gambling. The fact that wining or losing is dependent on luck, there is no need to make plans when you have not finally receive the money else it will only stare up unnecessary hope that may lead to disappointment at the end. Such experience are usually common among newbies who just got introduced to gambling. After a while with some loses I believe they’ll come to realization that making plans on how to spend money from gambling before the results is not necessary.

Exactly, I agree with your opinion that thinking of a plan on how to spend the winnings before the results in the game come out can really have a bad impact especially on your mental and psychological, and I think it is a fact that in the end as you said that it will only increase disappointment when it turns out that everything does not go as expected.
It is none other than because after all gambling is a game of probability that has no guarantee or certainty regarding the results that will come out, there is no guarantee that you will win and defeat is a very possible possibility, I think this scenario is what causes most gamblers to end up getting caught up in various impulsive actions because of course when you put very high hopes then when it turns out the results are not as expected you will be emotional and those emotions are what will push you into a much worse situation, we really need to think in this direction.

A gambler must be able to be responsible for his finances before he can gamble, because if not then it will cause problems like the case. That's why there is an emphasis that a person must be able to gamble using money that they have prepared in advance, because in gambling there are many possibilities, and the worst possibility that will happen is that a person can lose their money. If you don't want to get caught in trouble, you should prepare your money first and then you can gamble, there is no need to rely on other people's words because people may not be responsible for what they say.

The worst ridiculous and ugliest moment I have ever encountered pertaining gambling is when a friend told me and few other friends that he was going to take responsibility of the bills for our weekend hangout.
He had us that confidence to be unfailingly.
Guess what???
It was actually from a game he booked against the weekend that had him that morale to had projected this weekend hangout amongst us and it was not that he had secured the money to be assured.

As a matter of fact, he was nowhere to be found all through the weekend and could not even take his calls because he felt messed up of himself for the false promises.
While time passes by, you can imagine how he narrated the stories and felt remorseful of being a d!ck head as the game failed him as predicted.
I've been in a pretty confusing position like this, where I gambled on slots haphazardly, and actually there was already a profit that could be obtained but somehow there was no desire to withdraw it, I instead continued to gamble by extending the gambling session with the balance and the profit that I got was endless because when the balance was about to run out then I got a win and it continued like this until I played for quite a long time, and the ridiculous thing was that because the balance I had was so persistent I was confused about which game to choose.
In fact, if you look at the side of the profit that has been obtained, I should have withdrawn the profit to enjoy it, besides the victory in gambling is not easy to get, the most correct thing when you get a win is to cash it in, but honestly cashing in the profits that have been obtained is not as easy as just talking, I feel that way.

It's very ridiculous that we don't necessarily have money, and we have planned for that money, it's better to withdraw your money first and then make a plan, in gambling there are no definite results that determine whether or not we win, making promises when the money hasn't entered the account is the same as making hopes

I don't think it is ridiculous. Every gambler is a dreamer, no one spends their money in games like that if they had no enthusiasm for the prize and how they would enjoy it.

But a reasonable person should also make the opposite reflection: what situation will he be left in after losing the bet. If you don't fool yourself on that point, it is OK to daydream too.

Look at Bitcoiners, for example. Have you ever dreamed of what would you do if Bitcoin hit certain price in the future? and do you think it is ridiculous to think like that? Then most of us in this forum must be brainless.
Agree, daydreaming is free, a person goes to an interesting place also because they have original ideas that can be received from here, so it is not surprising that even before we have touched gambling, without a bet, we have thought about luck and using that luck to buy something more to support our lives. Of course, although this dream is quite absurd and has no clear basis, it is the primitive instinct of human beings, such a bright-focused personality is great, but once broken, it's hard to let go and you live in a dream you can't wake up from.

It's called day dreaming and financially irresponsible. How can they be so sure of something that mostly depends on the luck and nothing else, for me it's hard to understand though.

If I was him I would cashed out 10/10 times even if it's just one game away and definitely I am not going to spend money that I don't have with me even though I am sure it's gonna be there in the future which is the right way of doing it and being responsible while mitigate any pitfalls and many other consequences comes with being broke.
Daydreaming is literally like a dream because there is no action taken, so there is also no result or success on it but in betting we have a chance to win, therefore I won't consider it as one or like that, also, I won't say financially irresponsible if the amounts that we are using are only within our capacity. It is not that they are saying there is a guarantee because they know that this is gambling but it is just that they are also thinking about the what if's, i.e what if I win?

What will I do with the money, or how will I spend it all, etc... something like that. This is not hard to understand but it only takes a common sense on why someone are like that. They are only a human and as a human they have desires too like you and me.

Cashing out early or if the game is not yet finished won't give you a full profit, so that's not what we can say 10/10 but maybe 9/10 if there is one game away but that was still a safe choice as we know a lot of gamblers got screwed by the last game. If there is no money beside you, definitely you can't spend but I remember there is still things like credits which allows you of doing that. Another thing that ensures us a money is if we have a job, or something that are outside betting.

I think the news that someone is gambling should be kept to themselves but personal choices differ. It can help prevent such mishaps as stated by the OP. There are people who like to brag but pride gets you nowhere and puts you in embarrassing situations.

Since we all are playing to win it, we are making a big mistake. Gambling is never about winning, rather it is about how to play to reduce the losses, someone might disagree here, but the casinos want you to think you can win so that your greed takes over your logic.

The quicker you realize this the easier it becomes to control gambling habits.

Bitcoin To The Moon 📈📈📈
I think every gambler is guilty of this especially those that into sports betting. I heard a story of a guy that placed a bet having a potential win of 22 million naira, his game was running successfully and he had one more game to go on the ticket, he was given a cashout option but he didn't take it because he believed the game was a walk over, with this level of certainty he had, he went to a bar and ordered drinks worth up to a hundred thousand naira, after realizing it was a cut one he almost committed suicide because he ended up getting into a huge debt. Having a budget for an amount of money you haven't won yet is just a wishful thinking.
Of course I have experienced this mistake where when there is one match left but in the end it loses even though the team is the favorite but we cannot determine who wins then this is obviously still a factor of luck in sports betting too.

Maybe he thought the team was underdog so he was confident he would win the bet ticket in the end this was unlucky for the man requiring him to fail to pay for the beer.

This kind of thing should not be taken lightly as long as it is still not won then in any bet the results still rely on luck even though he has done such a long analysis.

Do you mean your friend who promised you and your other friends that he would pay for all the expenses of hanging out on the weekend just because he was so sure that his bet would be successful? If that is the scenario then I don't think you should 100% believe his words and promises, because after all the results in the game have not come out which means the possibility of failure will always be a certainty.

And from your story your friend ran away and did not keep his promise, and most likely it happened because his prediction failed or he suffered a defeat which is why he ran away from his promise, so never trust anyone's words too much, especially if it is related to gambling, and if I were in your position then I think I would not have trusted him too much from the start he made the promise, because I know that defeat is still a definite possibility when the results in the game have not come out.
