MintPal has been very smooth for me, never had an issue.  BTER as well and my deposits/withdrawals have always been very fast with them.  The thing I wonder about with Cryptsy is, they probably have the most experience or more than the younger exchanges, if they are temporarily disabling coins maybe there is a good reason like a fork on the network.

I've used BTC-e and Kraken. They were both pretty good. Cryptsy is too slow and buggy.

For Alt currencies, I think Crypsty and BTC-E.

Just be smart with whatever exchange you choose. Remember it's not a wallet, if you dont need to have funds there to actively trade, dont keep them there!

I personally use vircurex to exchange my alts to btc but I would never leave my coins on a exchange.
I heard vircurex is freezing accounts..! can't substantiate the claims but will warn you about what I heard ..!

Really? I am a bit worried about my LTC there now Sad

No exchange is without hiccups and normally have horror stories from a lot of people. It's hard to trust theory their stories and exchanges though, but that's always the risk with trading.

Kraken has a good reputation and just recently proved it holds 100% of all deposited bitcoins.

Cryptsy is a quite good exchange to trade altcoins

I use Cryptsy currently. It's kind of scary when a couple hundred thousand (or in one case a couple million) of a given altcoin
disappears from my balance with no warning b/c there was a problem w/ the blockchain and Cryptsy disabled trading of that
coin with no announcement. I've also had instances where support tickets went unanswered for weeks.

Don't get me wrong, I love the variety on the site. It's the bumps in their operation that make me nervous.

Cheers,
