Minimum Effort/Maximum effect

maybe someone should help the guy out. This is a very long time to be checking something, what is he doing anyway? i suspect there may be a mistake in HD recovery procedures.

It'd be terrible to think the guy is doing this line by line trying to figure it out.

Many possibility ... normally i'm read-only member in bitcointalk since i'm begin mining...

till doublec's exchange crash happen ... i'm looking for more information here but i can't post anything because restricted by newbie account... then i watch only mode... because that time it's not clear about what happen... but only from my guess i think if it's normally crash / HDD Crash ... i don't think it's not possible to do data recovery ... (that's my side of my SI Engineer knowledge)

but right now it's not seem about disks problem

what he dealing with it's more complex as data forever loss in Memory and it's about transaction during that day... it's kind like everyone who involve have to be wait till clear up all data to confirm the right btc/nmc that account really have...

because of this i feel it possibly worse as not possible to bring back every account to the right state before crash happen...

or it can badly as ... we can't guess for ETA (can't even say when it will finish ... next year ... or 2015 and during the time ... everything might change.. yes included Bitcoin...)

sorry i'm not Namecoin/Bitcoin Expert here... and i don't know how the code inside his exchange are or how it work...

but i think everyone who involve with computer programming/technical can already guess something...

instead of silent it's good if we share something that tell everyone you still have friends in the same of boat ...

i saw there someone who got returned funds... i happy with them ...
in another side... there is someone who still waiting for good news ...

I have sent 4 emails to [email protected] and never got a reply. I have 28 something NMC stuck on there, not much compared to what other people may have lost and my deposits were made while mining on Bitminter a few months before the alleged crash. I even explained in the emails that I only had deposited and there was no activity on my side since months before the crash and even given all the transactions and all addresses used to deposit as you could only use an address once. No reply and no NMC. I know 28 NMC is not much but I'm a very small miner and I could have done with having them back. On the other end I believe there are tons of people like me that didn't make any transaction near the time when the crash happened but still haven't got their funds back and I feel for the ones who have loads of BTC + NMC on there.
Would be nice to get a status update, and the reason why even if funds were stored on Bitparking much before the crash haven't been paid yet. It's your money guys and I believe everyone who wants it back should post on this thread and have their voice heard.

Good luck to everyone.  Smiley

Well... i load all mine BTC/NMC there ... and also have some transactions too... i bet you will soon get your fund back before mine... i feel good for you that you left only 28 NMC in exchange

Good luck to you too... Smiley

I wish there will be some good news for this new year...

Thank you, TheKoziTwo...

I feel really better that DoubleC re-confirm the Address again... thank you doublec for care about this.

Because i have no Local Wallet to keep both BTC/NMC ... i really worry if my wallet address is change in that time he return my funds
(it's long time for process that why i don't know what will happen in future)

Smiley i hopefully his email won't fly to my junk/spam ...

did doublec message you beforehand or did funds just appear in your wallet?

This was an interesting question that unfortunately is still unanswered.

Could someone of already refunded users give us some info? Thank you in advance.
I received this message after posting here:
"Hi,

My apologies for the delay. Accounts with pending transactions and
trades during the crash period are proving problematic. I've
researched your account and found:

BTC: *CENSORED*
NMC: *CENSORED*

f this sounds correct let me know a bitcoin and namecoin address to
send to and I'll send the funds."

I replied with my address and was paid the next day.

I am quite tired of doublec. There is no point in letting things take such a long time.  Things that are unknown are not going to be known just because it takes years time.  He will just have to sort out things in a best effort model, and tell everyone - "That's it.  If you are not happy tough luck!"  I lost quite a lot.

Unless he spends 8 hrs every weekday sorting this out, it is not acceptable! He is stalling and I will mark him a scammer.

Or, why not take 10% of funds and pay for disk recovery? Haircut should of course be carried by everyone.

I have to agree - there's a law of diminishing returns here, in more ways than just the namecoin price. There must still be hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of BTC and NMC in the site - just employ a data recovery specialist to extract the data and charge it to the remaining accounts. If there are namecoin wallets that have completely corrupted private keys, just post all the namecoin and bitcoin addresses used by the site so that everyone can see how much is in there and which ones are unrecoverable. Then we can all check the % loss and ensure that they don't suddenly move after a deal is made.

We really need to move to a considered negotiation now, rather than exact accounting which no-one can verify anyway. People need to know where they stand. A haircut is definitely something to consider, as we all knew the risks of investing here. Afterall 90% of something is better than 100% of nothing, but it has to be reasoned and justified.

Well, doublec is ignoring some basic common sense procedures you follow when you have a serious accident.

* Keep everyone informed, always.
* Explain status of what happened. Was bitcoin/xxx-coins lost? How much?
* Explain who will carry that cost.
* Explain what is going on now.
* Explain the likely consequence according to knowledge acquired so far, update this when new information is uncovered.
* Explain an estimate of the progress and how much time remains to complete the current task.

If you follow these procedures you reduce the number of stupid questions of the sort, "When do I get my money!?"
Even if this started as a hobby project it is no longer. Doublec has the responsibility to clear this up. I doubt more time is helping doublec or anyone, but if so he will have to explain that.

as far as i know...

I'm shocked he can't understand why someone would be upset that he has 30k of their money would bother him to see what the progress is...
I'm not at all upset or shocked that people would be upset. By the same token I would hope others aren't shocked and upset to know that I'm being careful with the situation involving large numbers of namecoins so as not to make further mistakes. I'm not at all prepared for the task of dealing with so many angry emails - this was just a hobby project I set up when coins were pretty much worthless - and I admit I'm not great at responding to them. I'd rather just do the job of fixing things.

I have had updates of progress here and here. I respond to polite emails about progress when I can. A large number of people have had their funds restored. A large number haven't - in particular ones involving trades around the day of the crash. Corruption in the trade data, corruption in the wallets, has made things difficult. My current step has been to work out what namecoin funds cannot be recovered, and then work try to work out a payment of existing funds followed by some form of ongoing payment for the remaining amounts I wasn't able to recover. At that point I'll put an update on the website with details so users can know where there stand.

why not take 10% of funds and pay for disk recovery? Haircut should of course be carried by everyone.

From what he's explain in his post ... it's not only about disk crashed ... i feel like it's kind of data lost in memory ? (During peak transaction in the crash day)

I think he try to recovery transaction to make it right for everyone ... (i don't know his stuff in technically... or how about the recovering process ...) that why it take so long for recovering process ...

from my guess ... he's not that guy who don't know about Computer or his stuff ... i think he try " his " best choice that give best result for peoples (except the time consumption ?) (it's possible in concept of recovering process that will give perfect result for everyone but... " Time " still being the question ... )

maybe he still finding another method or he already knew ... the answer and only try his best shot because i know if he recovery it wrong state ( i mean like use data from cold back up... many transactions that happen is lost ... for who lost too much will hate this... ok it's better than nothing but ... he already choose the path (that show us some of his work during time ... some people got returned fund ... and i guess that fund and no one said about fund is not match the last state ... )

and maybe behide this stuffs he already gave more than 8 hrs/week ?? and this all stuffs about Money it's hard to trust someone to help him speed up the process (but i don't said this impossible ... only hard)

i don't know who is the next will have luck and get return fund ... but i'm the one in the same boat ...

it's easy why he shut every exchange ... because he knew this is not gonna be easy for recovering from crash like this....

doubleC are you still using bitmessage. I've  sent you two messages but it says "waiting for acknowledgement". You messaged me two months ago that it will probable take two weeks to recover my funds. Haven't heard from you since then.
