Would a new factoid such as "Non-KYC bitcoin price is the real price" work without appearing to promote the usage of non-KYC services? Don't take me wrong, I fully endorse and use them, but considering that the forum thrives to be as free as possible[1], I don't know if the factoid would be compatible with the forum's mission...
I don't see any difference between kyc and non-kyc price whenever I trade Bitcoin, and I wouldn't make that separation in forum factoids.
There should be one price for Bitcoin but I understand that this can oscillate based on location, country, availability, liquidity, and other factors.
The idea would be that the non-kyc price would represent the true price of bitcoin from the perspective that you don't need to give your personal information in order to have them (reminiscence of a peer to peer trade). I do, however, understand your point of view.
On the other hand I think that advertising non-kyc services is a good idea, and I am trying to do the same with my profile signature and avatar.
From my perspective (and I'm certain that I'm not the only one), advertising non-kyc services is always great! I just don't think that it would fit with the current factoids as none of them currently direct the users to a specific service. Or where you talking about the factoid generally recommended getting bitcoin from non-kyc services, without specifying which ones (sort of to raise awareness about them?).

  • In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.

You have posted almost the exact thing right now available in the factoid slots. If you post 1 on average, it's not going to get you the maximum activity points. And you don't need to post once per day on average to get the maximum activity points.
There is an activity period which is 14 days for each period. If you post 1 single time during the activity period, you are eligible to get 14 activity points. If I'm not wrong, yesterday we had a new activity period started. So, if you have posted 1 single time today, you are eligible to get 14 activities. You don't need to post anymore in this activity period for getting maximum activity points.

Although have seen some users who activity points didn't obey the 14 days to activity point period, that is to say they updated in every single post because they do not exceed posting above 5 to 10 post per day and it counts together with the activity points without being in sequential with alongside 14 days and 14 post activity points. The bottom line is, activity and post points still continuously if one do not exceed 4 to 5 post per day and these accounts even though they post 1 a day are still qualify to be counted within the next points period.

Being able to promote anything you like is exactly what being "as free as possible" stands for. But I can't agree that the non-KYC price is "the real price": I'd argue that the average of all trades is a better estimate of the real price.

Since there are no ads anymore, we keep seeing the same factoids. A larger pool could be interesting.

Factoids need to be removed
Someone donated Bitcoins for having it there for eternity. By now, those classics are part of Bitcointalk history.

All Donators and Staff had one factoid right, though I never used it.
I didn't know Staff get one too.

I see no reason for them to be removed, especially if it's coming from a Donator. Actually, it would be nice if there were more fun factoids.

Me: Senior here
Me: Did not know about Factoid or they exists
Me: After looking into your thread and the provided threads by other member came to know that the statements which i am reading from like last years are known as "Factoid" and theymos have a page for them where we can add some cool factoids if they meet the required rules provided in the post of Yamane_Keto.
Me: Thanks Op for another new piece of information.
I will be looking at this thread for further information but my post here is in favor of your 1 factoid only about which you wanted some updates but the second one i think you just rephrased it. So, i am agree on the point 1 but second is ok though it need no alternation.

A question here: how can we add the data you (op) provided in the "suggest Factoid" heading because those links contains useful data not some factoid provided or proposed by other member. Do we or moderators or anyone have to conclude some 250 character based statement/factoid from those data or what?

There are factoid slots, 570 factoids but some are meaningless or no longer correct in information.
We have only 57 factoids.

Note that the 1 in 570 chance for each of factoids doesn't mean there are 570 factoids. The chance has been calculated considering that 9 out of 10 slots are allocated to ads and one of them is allocated to factoids.
Since theymos decided to suspend ad sales, the chance for each of factoids to be displayed is now 1 in 57, not 1 in 570.

I found an old thread talking about Factoid Spots
Some of them have been removed and these are general conditions for new factoid slots.

I removed the dead links.

If anyone has any suggestions for new factoids, post them here and I might add them. Factoids should be:
- Interesting, informative, or funny. The ones I wrote (most of them) are mainly focused on Bitcoin technology and history, but other Bitcoin-relevant topics could also be discussed.
- Not obvious to 99% of readers. Ideally, readers will learn something from the factoids, and maybe even be surprised.
- Not offensive
- Less than ~250 characters
- Very unobtrusive. (Much less flashy than regular forum ads.)

I probably won't add factoids that consist only of links. The factoids are supposed to be interesting in themselves. (Donators each get to choose a factoid, which explains some of the existing links and strangeness within the factoids.)

Here is another topic by theymos Ideas for new factoids?

Also, while forum ads can't normally contain images, I would probably accept forum-related "fanart" here, perhaps in the style of 4chan's board banners. Max dimensions are 42px high by 500px wide.

I don't think it's really important, the difference of beta software and experimental software aren't really big, adding FAQ about the activity factoid is fine though.

Well the two factoids you request to remove are only for making fun, maybe not all factoids should be something that always meaningful.

Anyway I see you stated the good factoids, need to be updated and need to be removed, but it's not all of the factoids. So, where are the rest? it's like soft-bad report or?

Factoid slots (1 in 570 chance)

The tenth slot is usually reserved for these factoids. Occasionally the tenth slot is instead temporarily sold (at a higher-than-normal rate) when somebody is desperate to buy it; in these cases, there is temporarily no chance of a factoid appearing.

Factoids fall into two categories: First, anyone can request that a factoid be added (for free) if it would be helpful to the community. The factoid can be a short bit of info or a simple, mostly-unstyled link. Links to for-profit sites/projects are much less likely to be accepted. Create a topic in Meta if you would like to request a factoid, and the community will debate whether it is actually sufficiently useful to be added. Second, anyone who can see the private Donators section is allowed to add one factoid with few restrictions; this type of factoid explains the existence of the few clearly-for-profit factoids.

I think community should vote to remove some meaningless factoids to have open slots for more meaningful factoids.

Good factoids
  • "Governments are good at cutting off the heads of a centrally controlled networks like Napster, but pure P2P networks like Gnutella and Tor seem to be holding their own." -- Satoshi
  • The nature of Bitcoin is such that once version 0.1 was released, the core design was set in stone for the rest of its lifetime." -- Satoshi
  • "With e-currency based on cryptographic proof, without the need to trust a third party middleman, money can be secure and transactions effortless." -- Satoshi
  • Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.
  • Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.
  • According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)
  • "This isn't the kind of software where we can leave so many unresolved bugs that we need a tracker for them." -- Satoshi
  • Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.
  • Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.
  • Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.
  • Whoever mines the block which ends up containing your transaction will get its fee.
  • The forum strives to allow free discussion of any ideas. All policies are built around this principle. This doesn't mean you can post garbage, though: posts should actually contain ideas, and these ideas should be argued reasonably.
  • "I'm sure that in 20 years there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume." -- Satoshi
  • "Your bitcoin is secured in a way that is physically impossible for others to access, no matter for what reason, no matter how good the excuse, no matter a majority of miners, no matter what." -- Greg Maxwell
  • Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!
  • It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.
  • There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.
  • There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.
  • Be extremely wary of relying on JavaScript for security on crypto websites. Websites can change JavaScript at any time unless you take unusual precautions, and browsers are generally not known for their tight security.
  • What is consensus?
  • How can the Bitcoin system be changed?
  • What is a hardfork?
  • You get merit points when someone likes your post enough to give you some. And for every 2 merit points you receive, you can send 1 merit point to someone else!

Factoids need updates in information
  • Remember that Bitcoin is still beta software. Don't put all of your money into BTC!
    • It should be "Bitcoin is still an experimental software". achow101 post.
  • In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.
    • It should be "In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average. Read FAQ."
