I chose the best topics of January in the Beginners & Help section. This time it turned out only 9 topics. But this does not mean that users have become less likely to write something useful. This month there were many useful topics, but with one caveat. The fact is that these topics repeat information that has already been written in other topics. And it's not about plagiarism. The thing is that this is just a retelling of the same general understandings about scams, behavior on the forum and other technical guides. The purpose of the encyclopedia is to collect as much unique material as possible, I try not to include repetitions of the same tips or guides in the encyclopedia.

Separately, I want to thank the users: _act_, Cookdata, cryptoaddictchie, KingsDen, notblox1, RickDeckard for creating high-quality and interesting material. According to the already established tradition, all topics included in this list will receive 5 merits from me.  Wink

These is actually one of the most resplendent thread I have seen so far for the period of my stay in this forum .
@ Ratimov deserves much accolades for this job well done. I don't know the time frame you had to sacrifice to get these done but I'm sure you must have had thorns and thistles just to get this to its peak and I still say..... Well done, bravo!
I saw in one of your replies that you would rather improvise on it as time went on, that's fine but don't you think you should make it self moderated so it could stand the test of time for probably other new members to learn from it?
Just an objection!

Next Update

Another update of the encyclopedia. In addition to the Beginners & Help section, I began to explore other sections to find useful topics. The next section is Electrum. Having examined all 134 (at the moment) pages of the section, I was able to highlight about 32 topics. Alas, among the nearly 4500 topics created there, less than 1% were selected. Beginners & Help, for example, has this figure of ~10%.

The Electrum section is more a collection of questions and problems that have arisen that users try to solve in the comments, rather than some kind of educational section where users write various guides and instructions for use. Electrum developer topics, ThomasV, I decided to highlight them at the top of the list.

Also, do not forget about this resource with guides for Electrum: Bitcoin Electrum

These topics have been added to the catalog by dates and categories.

The number of published guides is constantly decreasing, this time it was possible to mark only 6 topics. The section is becoming more and more a kind of ask a question - get an answer. Although 1-2 years ago, the section was just bursting at the seams from new guides and explanations. Trends are changing.

Thanks to libert19 and Charles-Tim for the November topics and contributions to the encyclopedia.  Smiley

A suggestion:
In the list by category, the topic, besides mentioning the name of the user who created it, could also have the date of the topic.
It is true that there is a listing by date, but the idea here is for the person to know the date of a topic in the listing by category.

I am still thinking about it. In fact, here are collected topics that do not have a limitation period, as if they were topics in the spirit: the best coins for investing, where the highest interest on loans or the best exchanges. This is information that changes over time. But I deliberately did not include such sheets in the list, because they very quickly lose their relevance.

And even if I add the date, then I probably would not add it in the day-month-year format, but probably limited myself to only the year.

I voted yes and I think it really should be. I am not sure if there is a limit to the number of pinned threads in a sub because Beginners & Help do have a lot.
One of them is Verifying Bitcoin Core by theymos. Good and informative thread and nothing wrong with it, but I think it's more suited for the Wallet software child board of Development & Technical Discussion. Your average newbie doesn't use Bitcoin Core or runs a full node. The percentage of those who verify the software is even lower.

Thanks. Perhaps theymos were guided by some other criteria when adding this topic to this section. But in general, I noticed that updates rarely occur among the fixed topics. It seems that most of the fixed topics were created no later than 2018.

WEEKLY BUMP

Created a new poll: Would you like to see this topic among the pinned ones?

I think if this topic becomes popular, the moderators will pay attention to it and make it pinned at the top of the section for maximum convenience.

After I finished working on the catalog, I started to select the best topics from other sections of the forum, and a list of the best topics in the Beginners & Help section for November will also be released soon.

Thanks to all those who support this encyclopedia.

Any news about the likeness of this thread to be pinned?. When that happen, I wonder if there still some people who will still ask hpw to start, what to do and whatever they like to ask as a beginner in this community. I'm sure it takes a lot of time to complete this encyclopedia. Within 4 years that's what you skimmed and its no joke.

I think, even if you highlight this topic with a bold, newcomers will still appear who will ask the same type of questions. Unfortunately, there is no escape from this and no theme, even if it blinks in front of the very nose, will not help to completely avoid it. But on the other hand, now such questions can be answered much faster.

It may take at least a year to complete this encyclopedia completely, and by complete completion I mean searching for the best topics in all sections.

Now this is even more better than before. A list of threads like guides, securities and many more but the better part is where we can click, tap on which category we can check. This feels like, I need to know how to increase my account security then i'll just click the security measures category boom redirected. Easy as that.

Thanks, yes, even though it was a very laborious part of this encyclopedia, but this navigation option seemed to me the best solution of all that came to my mind during the development of this topic.  Smiley

That makes sense. I haven’t noticed that TBH. Thank you for the heads up. If you include other board as well for being listed in your encyclopedia, I guess that would be good. Though article on LN in Help & Beginner is quite good, the one by Rath_ is the best one with no doubt.

I completely agree with you, Rath_ writes a lot of useful material. Most likely, in the foreseeable future, I will research the Development & Technical Discussion section, as well as its Child Board: Wallet software, in order to collect the best topics for the encyclopedia there. In this section, the best techies of the forum have published their guides, there is a huge amount of useful information. Thank you anyway.

Did you miss the greatest thread on Lightning Network by BitCryptex aka Rath_? I'm referring to the Lightning Network FAQ thread- https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/the-lightning-network-faq-5158920
I was looking for threads on Lightning Network but couldn’t find this one.
Nevertheless, it's highly appreciable that you are trying to organize all these threads. It can be useful for newbies.

I haven't missed anything, since this topic is in the Development & Technical Discussion section, and this encyclopedia is still based on all the useful topics that are open in the Beginners & Help section, and not throughout the forum. In the future, I will explore other large sections of the forum.

I wonder how this useful thread managed to hide itself from me, I might not know it existed if my username was not quoted today. This is in spite of trying to stay connected much more to the forum, which is a reason why it deserves a pin up there if possible.

I've gone through a few pieces of the works being mentioned here, they are nice, and this style and initiative are good and it's like having an archive of useful pieces which one could easily navigate for useful resources and save themselves time from reading much of cabbages.

I voted for Yes, I think it's no brainer that this should be pinned on top so that newbies can see it when they joined this community and most likely will read it first before asking questions here.

And thanks for the mentioned as well @Ratimov, as I continue to share topics that can really help not just beginners here, but as some seasoned members as there are a lot of things that we can learn like everyday. The learning curve should be a continuous path for all of us.

Wow, this is really impressive! my first time seeing this thread. Mr. Ratimov, I notice the updates every month aren't regular, maybe because of reasons only you know. If the updates were consistent, this thread might stay at the top, especially since it's not pinned yet. For newcomers like me, if I could find this encyclopedia, I wouldn't need to make new threads to ask questions because I could read them here.

Well done @Ratimov for this wonderful upto date additions on the begginers and help encyclopedia thread you created, three things excite me on seing this latest development, first is that you never relent from giving out your best as well as considering the thread ever useful by not neglecting it without an update, secondly is the increase in knowledge and wider scope of what beginners can learn from this thread and lastly, i count it a privilege that my thread(s) finds it way to be among the selected topics useful for recommendations for the beginners, honestly i never expect this coming, but i must sincerely appreciate you for doing what you know how to do best.

This One Big Thread.
Certainly the thread that increased to a large extent my admiration of Ratimov. The thread ought to have been pinned,

This topic can be called a bible for beginners, after which one could take exams and award high ranks.
Since moderators don't want to pin this topic, we can bring it up regularly for newbies and beyond.
Some things need to be repeated over time, and over time, we also look a little differently than we did before.
