people will probably mistaken it as a real metamask because their name was completely the same and identical to the original one but the only difference between them is the logo. The original metamask has a fox logo while the logo of the fake one seems odd. the other way to know if the app is legit or fake is to look for the reviews and feedback, if their were many bad reviews then the app is not good at all.

To be sure, go to https://metamask.io/ first. Usually the real one has lots of reviews.

Maybe if they spend their intelligent in something else, they'll have been able to earn a lot of money but they chose the worst way, try to hack other people token. LOL. MEW and Metamask basically works the same way. The main difference is that with MEW, you have to INPUT your private keys into the browser which you may or may not send to the server hosting the webpage. This is a security risk because you may send your keys to a phishing site.

Metamask is self-contained, meaning it just sends out signed transactions instead of keys. It's great with ETH but no support for tokens. So you need MEW and Metamask to move tokens.

There are now quite a lot of people reporting that they are losing Ethereum on their MEW wallet due to hacking so many investors are redirecting to using the Metamask utility. So scammers are taking advantage of this at the moment to create the fake Metamask utility to steal investors' assets. Be very careful with the number of wallets you have.
