Interesting. Someone should setup a website to create fantasy profiles to let people not in crypto learn and understand, while seeing that they could make some money too.

I invest 50% in bitcoin and 30% in altcoin and 20% in ICO. I divide the capital to reduce the risk for my investment. I often analyze the time to buy altcoin. With ICO, I often monitor the projects I plan to invest before investing in that project.
Coins that actually will be traded long after a year or two should be put into a portfolio, those coins aren't worth the time.

@Smooth what market data does your code analyze and also what is going to be the primary reason for selling/trading the assets in this portfolio? I understand the liquidity and trading reason for choosing these coins but do not understand what will be the primary reason for selling and trading e.g. selling because there is a 15% loss over the course of 2 days

I'm also curious why Bittrex wasn't chosen as its volume is now much larger than polo's

Only historical reasons. I use some custom code to analyze market data that doesn't support bittrex yet. I will likely add support for bittrex and the assets that trade there in coming months.

Interesting thread
Watching and curious to see what will happen

Interesting portfolio. I used to hold 100% Ripple before it moon back in march April. People thought I was crazy. Ripple has a potential to disrupt the trillion dollar banking system.

Fairly safe set of assets for investing in

I'm also curious why Bittrex wasn't chosen as its volume is now much larger than polo's

It seems Poloniex is still considered the benchmark for quite a lot of traditional traders

I  would  add  walton chain,  Modum, SONM  to the  game

Supercomputer   to help power in videogames industry?   To da moon?   I  think so.

Do you have 100k USD invested in all of them that you have shown?

No, that's why it is called a fantasy portfolio.

I do own some of them but my actual holdings are not allocated according to this portfolio. This thread is paper trading

Do you still believe in XRP as well as think that it will catch up?
Do you have 100k USD invested in all of them that you have shown?
Can you suggest one single coin out of the list that's presented in your portfolio for us to follow?
I wish to hear your suggestions on XRP especially because I am still holding it, and possibilities of it reaching back to those high prices where I bought them at.

It's a very interesting idea, however in case your coins of choice succeed, I would personally feel very disappointed that I decided to invest only in "fantasy". I mean, it's like someone would say when bitcoin was few dollars that he decides only to track it's price, without buying. I mean, maybe not exactly like this, because bitcoin's price has raised in years, however with some of the ICOs and new altcoins, their price can change 10 or more times even within a month. Won't you feel that you have picked good coins but missed an opportunity?

... or just a random 10 of Top 20 coins?

It's not random.

I have so many of those that just seeing this list is making my heart heavy with regret. Of these, I'd already got Litecoin for very close to 10% of current USD  and BCH for free, so the ones jerking my tears are Stratis (I got at 5.90) and Steem (1.6). These are all such great value buys, even though they're fictitious.

Let me guess, you're waiting for correction time with Bitcoin? Then again, it's also in your portfolio so is this a hedging strategy or just a random 10 of Top 20 coins? Hard to go wrong here in my opinion.

You are very trusting with XRP. Will it be a development? There are very strong opponents on the market.

I'm just curious why you dont hold some ETH based on its large market cap and liquidity. Also, is that too risk for 44% XRP?

As I noted above all coins have been quite correlated with each other meaning it doesn't make as much difference as you might think which coins you hold. The more important decision is how much to hold in cryptocurrency assets as a whole. At this time the holistic factors going into the portfolio construction don't favor ETH (in that the expectation, which could turn out to be right or wrong, is that if ETH were to move up strongly, other coins would too).

XRP is a bit of an outlier. Unlike most of the others which are at least somewhat grass roots projects that derive, vaguely from Satoshi's tradition of working to build an alternative to traditional finance (though some with ICO, etc. fundraising and a formalize development organization, some not), XRP is issued by a company that holds a large portion of its supply and that company is backed by serious venture capital and has experience professional management. Its strategy and target market, at least short term, is making partnerships and deals with existing banks and similar regulated businesses. In short, it is a completely different animal from most other coins when it comes to economics. Diversification within that category might make sense if there were other candidates, but there mostly aren't. (Stellar Lumens is arguably in a similar strategic position and indeed we have 10 STR in the portfolio, so we might say that "potentially-disruptive cryptocurrencies" make up 46% and "bank coins" make up 54% of which 81% is XRP and 19% is STR.)

@guystyles ETC is only included at 1% which might as well be rounding error. I don't think it is worth paying much attention to at this point, but maybe in the future the allocation will move higher. We'll see.
