To be clear the 15 minute rule only applies if bids come in at the last second. If someone bid 30 min before the end of the auction and no one outbid them by the end of the auction...the auction would end at the end time originally specified.

I think sniping auctions are what make it fun an exciting. This drags it out for whoever is willing to pay the most. Which, I guess is good for you

Some may disagree with this as if they submitted their bid 1 second late then they missed the auction.
Having a time interval actually allows the price mechanism to establish itself freely. I'm surprised ebay doesn't do this as most of their auctions fall victim to sniping.
