Vitalik Buterin's X account hack is another threat to crypto space. CoinEx exchange was hacked a few days ago. Yesterday I saw a post in the official telegram group of Kucoin exchange that the telegram account of some of their admins has been hacked. Crypto space seems to be getting occupied by hackers day by day. Now it is getting difficult to keep our assets safe.

I believe that there's really no problem on Vitalik Buterin's side here, it's for sure on Twitter/X. It's just impossible that Vitalik Buterin will get hacked, we all know that.
I am really looking forward to the incident report here like how it is really happened. Twitter/X must really fix this, this is not the first time it has happened in the cryptocurrency market, even some big personalties already experienced this.
I don't get it, I thought it was his X account is the one that get hacked, so why it's said he lost money? Can we deposit money on our X account now? I haven't check the link yet, so I don't know if which fault is it. It can also be his because maybe he clicked on a phishing link or do something which lead his account to get hacked. Don't say that he can't get hacked. No one is immune with it.

A lot of big brands and personalities are often being reported to get hacked, so why can't he? The said amount seems huge to us but maybe not really for Vitalik but incident's like this are alarming. Let's just hope that X fix the issue as soon as possible if the problem is on their side.

Twitter is full of scammers. People have to be aware of that. You see Free NFT, then you see it's coming from a verified account and you connect your wallet, then boom your wallet is wiped. It's that easy for scammers. These scammers use phrases such as limited edition or for a short time to quickly attract more victims, that way people connect their wallet without verifying.
I don't understand how Vitalik can be hacked so easily though. It may be something else involved in this scam.

From these types of incidents, what should we make positive precautions to make ourself safe? If he himself is not that much safe, the father of Ethereum, and secondly he is also great at coding, what we are in front of him, is an indication, that we are not safe.

Why would someone bother to hack an account of a well-known personality on Twitter and then publish a fraud that is easy to notice? I understand that the reason for hacking is to prove that I am better at programming or to destroy someone's reputation, but the number of hacks was very systematic, which indicates a problem with the X platform or a development in hackers .
X is a bad place to start your investments. Always check the links several times and do not trust the account, no matter how reliable and verified it is.

Why would anyone not hack the account of a famous individual if they had the opportunity to? It should be one of the easiest cyber attacks since the attacker just has to post a phishing link and followers of the famous individual that got hacked will line up to submit their tokens.

This type of hack can happen to everyone especially now that it's so easy for anyone with the right tools to perform sim hacks. Majority of websites today uses SMS as primary 2FA security mechanism.

The scammers prefer to use cryptocurrencies for scams and most crypto enthusiasts prefer to use Twitter mostly. I will not blame Twitter at all because those people like Vitalik Buterin are the ones who are careless. This is not a new method for scammers, but those celebrities and people like Vitalik Buterin prefer to let their account to remain vulnerable so that hackers can use them to scam other people.
I agree with what Act said is easy to believe any information coming from a well-known influential person's account and also if the followers are most gullible enough to jump on an offer coming suddenly from those accounts you may make the worst choice since it is likely that the owner of the account is not the one you directly are dealing with so the bounce of the blames goes to the account owner who failed to protect their accounts most especially the verified accounts.

X is one of the most targeted for recent attacks,  and users of that platform have been scammed severally due to this form of practice and at that just like we red flag most telegram deals,  same way we should stay away from such offers coming from Twitter or other social media.

Everyone is busy losing money on Twitter since it changed to X and updates done,  even Elon musk carried out that his investment on x os in decline and negative mode right now,  x is not the best place to be right now not to consider any investment coming from their.

Do your own research before you dive into any investment.

I have seen many times before that several prominent personalities' X accounts have been hacked, and posts have been made from their X accounts to trap people. We all should also learn to stay cautious of such things so that we don't fall into any temptation otherwise, consider it a sure loss and if there is any offer on someone's account, it's better to confirm it first instead of rushing into it. Haste and greed can both lead to losses.

Vitalik Buterin's account on X got hacked and it result to whooping $700k dollars lost.

This indicate that we should never believe immediately on what we can read online especially if that have outrageous offer or good promise of return since we don't know if the account of influential man like him got compromise already so we need to be aware for next incident like this.

Bruh, it wasn't even Vitalik who lost funds, it was investors who followed his account. Goddamn, that is unlucky. Times like this I wish they had something like the system Bitcointalk has, having a warning label on their profile that this user has had their password changed or something similar. Rather unfortunate especially since a lot of people seem to have the idea that links, especially from famous people can be trusted. Even if warnings were said once the event happens, can't exactly force everyone to take safety precautions, that'd be quite tiring in an era where literally everyone wants just simple and few step actions to finish what they want.
There should be a investigation as of now. This might be a inside job or just a tuphical hacker attack. We know that vitalik is a smart person and probably think that he wouldn't be hacked, this is why people think that the link he just gave which is labeled as free is legit. People should have learned into not trust everyone even if it came from a verified and a smart people who hold the account. It's a sad accident but we know that it will be up to vitalik if he will be give back to the victims which is another risk since scammers will use that kind of trick to scam people again. People should learn and always learn how to be cautious with the term "free".

It's impossible to believe how hacker can hack his account. Is this an inside job or what? I thought that if vitalik was not stupid enough to click the phishing or something else. How can twitter was always getting hacked like this? I saw that this thing has been also happening to another big account.
It seems like that twitter was very often used to get hacked. My assumption is if twitter has poor security. The access to the account already restored by X and vitalik has been removing the phishing tweet from hacker.

twitter and discord have very poor security. These platforms are very often being hacked by hackers.

So far (according to the article on Cointelegraph) there has been a few accusations against Buterin's alleged negligence on the security management of his Twitter account, though I would say it is too early to tell whether this was actually negligence or there was someone within Twitter staff involved with this theft of assets, as it was the case with the last big Twitter massive account appropriation for theft of Bitcoin, a couple of years ago.

Maybe Vitalik will not let his account get hacked for easy as that since he for sure know the consequences and might it can ruin his reputation also including ETH if he's found out doing that. Bur the affected amount is not so huge for him so provably there are hackers just  trying their best to penetrate his account since they know that they can get something just like this incident happen.

I would like to think as well that this is a case of someone on Twitter who has administrative powers and not Vitalik not protecting this account with 2 factor Authentication methods, the later would be ironic from such a huge target like he is.

Also, if we talk about the amount and the possible motivations of the hackers, I would still believe they are in for the money instead just messing around with Vitalik. Oddly enough, they did not go for the usual "doubling your ETH" scam, because they probably knew it was too obvious in the eyes of the community, so decided to steal NFTs and tokens as well.

Even if those hundreds of thousands could be easily paid back by Vitallik, I doubt he will, it would start a precedent which could be used to abuse his generosity in the future.  Roll Eyes

Feels sorry for the victims but this just shows of state of vulnerability wherein "X" account of someone like Vitalik can be hacked then imagine about an ordinary person, it's time we all buckle up about security and privacy of our accounts and shouldn't be clicking on any random links as hackers can use any such links to bait us. But I am sort of unable to connect the dots how can account of personality such Vitalik Buterin can be hacked so easily, either they hacker is hardcore genius or VB and team made some blunder giving way for hacker to penetrate the account, something doesn't seem right.

Twitter is huge platform for majority of crypto users that's why usually hackers to the same attacks will usually go there to scam people thru hacking of those account handled by influential people.

I guess we read up to many case like this and it always good thay we should not believe easily especially if the poster offers a huge money to their supporters in return.
We should check the offers posted especially if that person is not actively posting any promotion so that we would know if we are been deceived or not.

Many series of well known personalities hacked and they do that for scamming purposes then we see them succeed that's why they keep doing this.

Always best for us to check the link and the authenticity of the post before we go in since we never know if the poster is been hacked or legitimate one.

Does anyone know the technical details about how the scam works? I see that the article only explains that the victims connected their wallet to the site and then had their funds stolen.

This indicate that we should never believe immediately on what we can read online especially if that have outrageous offer or good promise of return since we don't know if the account of influential man like him got compromise already so we need to be aware for next incident like this.

Anyone should not blindly follows big names or influencer and even any authority just because they simply have enormous followers or popularity in the first place. It is always necessary to do a self-check concerning any, especially sensitive, matter.

One point to note, the way this scamming scheme works is cheeky. As far as I know, it seems there is no outrageous claim and promising returns or offers in the tweet, it is just simply a link to claim free NFT. So I don't think it is considered as lucrative offer or return.

This is certainly something I would have not expected to happen to Buterin, keeping in mind he has himself witnessed so many scams going on and how he is well informed in coding, etc.

Eager to know more about this and Buterin's version of the events...
