finally have downloaded the new client. Select folder view "large icons". Still see old icon.

I'm wondering if the ico is cached. This can happen, which results in the old icon showing. A quick fix I found for this is to go into folder options, select view, uncheck 'Hide protected system files', press apply, then check it again and hit reply.

Check your icon again then please let me know if it has updated.

Actually it's best to release early and often, for peer review.

(I nearly forgot to respond to this.)

Could you point me to the research that leads you to this conclusion? I'm guessing that it's more your opinion than anything.

While it may be better to "release early and often" when it comes to a work-in-progress project or for various methods of testing, the same isn't true of branding. How can a brand (FC is a brand of cryptocoin) possibly build credibility with it's targeted audience if it's constantly being changed and revised?

Can you imagine a new car company trying to compete by releasing it's flagship model one week and then changing the company logo the next? How much faith do you suppose you would have in that auto manufacturer?

No sir...it's best to release a finished product that's competitive in the market.

However this "client update" only applies to the logo really. It was a horrible decision and one that diminishes FC credibility.

Two words: Brand Recognition!

If FC is to be taken seriously the logo can't be changing every week. It makes no real difference whether it's "pretty" or not...people need to know instantly what it stands for and that's impossible if it changes constantly. This change was done a week after the product launch and you're now telling me that you are wanting to change it again? It's suicide!

Bottom line...I want FC to not only survive...I want it to thrive and flourish! But that will never happen as long as the developer continues to diminish it's credibility. If that's insulting to anyone....well....you might as well wrap it up now and toss in the towel for FC.

Personally I don't like the new logo any better than the last one. However it's a matter of personal choice and makes no difference in the grand scheme of things, but anyway that's my input.

My logo designer is considering submitting yet another logo if anyone wants it. Smiley

My thought on the whole matter is that it's completely unprofessional to have launched FC when it was launched, if it was a half-finished project.

Actually it's best to release early and often, for peer review.

Launching a new client update and logo a mere week or so later strengthens the belief of some that this was nothing but a scheme created in an effort to line pockets of a very few people who were "in the know" about the hurried and secret launch. In other words...any credibility that Feathercoin had in the community is now going to be less because of this. It gives the impression that FC was rushed to launch and is nothing but a cash-grab scheme for the developer and his friends.

Same tired disrespectful garbage that comes up over every altcoin.  Nobody is forced to use an altcoin.  If you have any extras you don't want, of any type, I will gladly take them off your hands.

As I've stated before...I couldn't care less! If someone is able to suck some money from the suckers willing to pay it...more power to you! I don't blame anyone for taking advantage of noobs, rubes and boobs that are too stupid ignorant to know what they're doing....Hell, that's how all of the wealth in this world is, was and always will be earned!

I have bought and sold altcoins of my own free will and volition.  I am of sound mind.  I consider it disrespectful to call me a noob, rube, boob, or stupid.  It may all be true, but it's still disrespectful!

Your idea of how wealth is earned is completely off.  Wealth is earned by serving people.

Anyway...my question was, is this client "update" necessary?

If I were the FC developers, I wouldn't waste time answering you after your disrespectful comments above.  You can keep on using the previous client if you want, but since you think it's all a plot to take advantage of people, I suggest you delete any FC clients you have.  They were all given to you for free, after all, at the expense of other people whom you are now insulting.

I didn't intentionally insult anyone at all. In fact, I was all for FC from the moment I heard about it and hoped the best for it...still do.

Lots of people aren't all that hyped for FC, believing it's a scam devised by a few people who claim it wasn't "pre-mined" when in fact it was, I just see no reason to give them encouragement...which is exactly what I believe this "update" does.

No...my idea is exactly on point! I have more years in this world than I care to mention. In those years I have found that earning money is done by serving people what they need...earning real wealth is done by taking advantage of noobs, rubes and boobs! Sorry if that offends you....it shouldn't  Wink
(although I did re-phrase my statement. Stupid was a poor choice of words...ignorance is more fitting since a person can be very intelligent, yet ignorant at the same time)

Criticism isn't insult...you seem to be confused. All I did was criticize in the hopes that more thought would be put into future decisions. As of now, it seems that decisions are being made "on-the-fly". I would very much like to see the developer (and anyone else involved with FC), take the time to start really thinking things through and making rational, well-planned decisions. Anything less only offers an appearance of unpreparedness and lessens FC credibility.

When young, I jumped to the defensive at any and every criticism of my work. As the years piled on I've learned to listen to everything, think about it and see if there's anything to be gained from it. There's much to gain from my reply....get angry and offended about it or use it for improving the work...it's all up to you. Makes me no difference at all!

+1.  Trolls gotta troll I guess.  But it gets old seeing the same garbage spewed every day.  Atleast one comment in nearly every altcoin thread has this.  If it isn't FC, it's in a TRC thread.  If it isn't TRC, it's in a FRC thread.  If it isn't FRC it's NVC.  It wasn't long ago this was all you heard about LTC.

If you don't like altcoins don't read the altcoin forum.

What I'm mostly concerned with is whether I MUST download the new client or not. I really don't care to bother with it if it's not necessary. If it's only aesthetics, I see no reason to bother. My thought on the whole matter is that it's completely unprofessional to have launched FC when it was launched, if it was a half-finished project.

All I'm saying is...why do something like this to make it so obvious to everyone? Should have waited a couple of months!

Anyway...my question was, is this client "update" necessary?

went to github and just has the link for feathercoin.com
which being honest is not secure at all, could easily be hacked and replaced with corrupted folders
why not have the actual download on github?

i downloaded the master feathercoin zip and extracted fine, so know not my tinternet or sytems or programs

the feathercoin windos client zip is empty, everytime

giving p now i think

Very odd about the download. I have updated the links to use SSL. I have tested the link just now and everything appears to be fine.

Could you please run CCleaner and then AdwCleaner on your computer and then try again?

CCleaner will remove temporary files like web browser caches from your system and AdwCleaner will remove third party installed without your permission in your browsers, basically it removes malware. Let me know how you get on.

ok thanks
good idea to make ssl and more secure
I will try again when restart later

I have a hardcore cleaner installed anyway
will post back when I succeed
thanks for your time

Nice logo.

One thing about Feathercoin I don't understand, is if the block rate is mean to be one every 2.5minutes, how come we are up to block number 23,750 in only 10 days since block 1 on 2013-04-16 21:17:40?

The difficulty adjusts to get to 2.5 minutes per block. There were several times in the start when the hash rate simply doubled. The blocks were time travelling. We are pretty close to 2.5 minutes now. This can go both ways, some coins have gotten to such high difficulties and slow difficulty adjust that miners end up leaving for greener pastures and the blocks start getting solved much slower than they were designed to.
