Someone who got the "diary picture" from the owner of the picture ( = owner of the coins, who also made the picture says the FAQ) and asked the organizer of the challenge to get the WIF as they have not the knowledge to compute the remaining part.

...which actually belong to @soferox

How do you know, that soferox is the owner?

Well for starters, he wrote that his notebook with Bitcoin private key was damaged by a flood, and since I never saw him talk about any challenge like this, I'd say it's not likely for him to be the challenge organizer (unless he explicitly mentioned that in some post that has eluded my attention).

Op is using this giveaway to make users install a trojan... I got this result from VirusTotal.
Maybe VirusTotal isn't able to analize files good enough?
Read the FAQ:
Does the program require an internet connection?
No, the program is looking for the key offline.

Most participants run it on offline machines or rent GPUs.

Let's hope no one fall in this trap!

And i would recommend to all users to verify each .exe before installing it, it's a good security practice that we all should follow.

@NotATether:
Btw is @soferox the owner or the intermediary?
Can you explain what you mean by intermediary?

I have a question. Recently there was a flood and a notebook containing a offline wallet was damage and it destroyed part of a WIF private key, so now I basically have:

Kw**********(I have the next 40 characters, just not posting for obvious reasons), so I am missing 10 characters in all.

I also have the public key. Is it possible to use this software to start a search at Kw... and iterate over the missing 10 characters with the known 40 characters also in the key.

For example : 1B2Q8vPm5E5b8yxaNWUW5ZfdCR5Zu1KMJn - is the public address

and for the WIF private key I'd have Kw**********jcQmKRPNTF8CU9H1thzC981DCrZgmS4m8ygXFCEk (this is just an example, no funds are here)

basically I want to always have search for private key start at 'Kw', then search for missing 10, and end with 'jcQmKRPNTF8CU9H1thzC981DCrZgmS4m8ygXFCEk'

Any advice is appreciated and examples are even more appreciated. I do have a programming background, but I don't have much experience programming to use GPUs, which I imagine I am going to need, so I am open to any and all suggestions, other than just giving the key over to someone. I will offer a reward to anyone who successfully helps me with this too.

Or is 10 characters just too many possible combos. All advice is much appreciated!

Thank you,
S.1PfNh5fRcE9JKDmicD2Rh3pexGwce1LqyU

He said he had a pubic key, so he must have the public key but its not a outgoing transaction for this address 1PfNh5fRcE9JKDmicD2Rh3pexGwce1LqyU

Suppose you do find the coins (which actually belong to @soferox) - how will you return them to him?

In FAQ: https://github.com/phrutis/wif500

"The intermediary was asked to make a challenge and if the key is found, he will receive 10%. He agreed.
A program was developed and the challenge was launched."

It looks like @soferox will get 10% (or a bit less, because the intermediary will get a bit too).

Big ethical question here.

Bitcoins came to the address 1JNX6DgbLfa9GZiQ5XUd61mj77YGzt6frb and after 18 seconds were sent to another. Why was this address written down in a book? Writing this address and private key took more than 18 seconds.

This thread was created to complete the challenge ASAP.

If you want to ask questions regarding the exe file, maybe it's better to do it here:
