Binance, Wazirx, Paxful and Localbitcoins are the best places according to me if you are looking to get the best for your BTC, be it alts or fiat (based on exchange to exchange). For the derivatives part, none other than BitMex because they provide all of us with the opportunity to get stopped out and that's when I make the most out of it. I mean, when the markets are against you, you can make more money by just hedging it with a different account on a different IP address. Wink

But beside that exchange i will recommend on KuCoin, Okex, Poloniex, Coinbase Pro and Bittrex.
I will remove Poloniex from the list of trusted exchanges, Poloniex has a bad reputation even many people have accused Poloniex of fraud.
A friend of mine was deleted by Poloniex account without any reason, if you decide to participate in trading on Poloniex be careful.

I will do agree and disagree both for your opinion. It's true that poloniex have not much reputation since couple of years but it was a great exchange back 2017. Still poloniex doing great as exchange in my opinion. Every company/project had to face rough time and i guess poloniex also facing rough time at this moment. So if they will handle their bad things properly then it'll turn back and become a great exchange again (like Bittrex).

Let us know what you think! And also what are your favorite exchanges?

There’s a lot crypto currency that we can used to exchange out local currency into international currency, but most of them has a high exchange rate so that it wouldn’t be difficult for me to exchange it. In choosing my preferred crypto currency is based on their legibility if is not scammed and the affordability of exchanging the money. For me, I preferred to exchange my local currency into XRP currency because it is legitimate and has a low exchanged rate so that it was very affordable for me to exchange it.

Liquidity, trading and withdrawal fee, individual coin volumes are more important while picking the exchange as top one but as of now binance seems the best and most used crypto currency trading platofrm because they got everything what a trader wanted and that makes the traders to stay there even when lot of new crypto exchanges got emerged.
Well, these are the most important when traders looking for a good crypto exchange platform. It was stated above by nelson4lov all those characteristics on the exchange platform that I looking for, --Binance is very fit with regards to that matter. So far I can tell more about crypto exchange because I never use other exchanges aside from Binance. Indeed, here is my advice if you had already picked an exchange where to trade, never leave your crypto asset on an exchange because you did not have your own private key.

top pick would be binance

Well, due to series of things I have undergo with many other cryptocurrency exchanges, I later fond a place where I can sit comfortably and trade without any mind blowing issues. Binance is my favourite though there are others I used with some trades but regularly I use Binance almost on daily basis. Some of my friends have been on this game and told me about the authenticity of the exchange called Binance over all other exchanges.
I also like the Binance trading exchange, because not only the reviews about this exchange are positive, but it is also the most technically balanced.  And besides, all of its features are very suitable for me, including the interface.  Nevertheless, I think that it is best to go to the exchange for trading, which have the largest volume of trade of a particular coin that you have chosen.  I have to admit that some cryptocurrencies are not always on the finance, as well as on other rating exchanges. Therefore, you have to make a choice in this way.

Favourite trading platform will have to be Kraken, used to be a fan of Binance, but after the recent scandals, I refuse to support it.

Been playing around with DEX's as of lately, and hate the slow trading using atomic swaps, until I discovered Stakenet's DEX which is Lightning Network compatible, which means not only is the trading fees VERY low, but trading is also instantaneous.

Next problem is liquidity, which they solve through the use of a #DEX Aggregator", which basically combines multiple DEX order books (From other DEX's out there) through API calls, and adds them into the Stakenet DEX, which opens up for a LOT of liquidity, and benefits all the existent DEX's out there as well.

Here's a screenshot:

It is not really that easy to find a good exchange, all of them has one problem or another, not one single exchange has everything right, and many of them lie as well which is the real trouble here. I mean at one point binance made a lot of mistakes, kucoin does, poloniex used to be one of the best, now look at it, so basically ALL exchanges have something they are lacking and that is a big problem.

Even if they do not do a mistake all by themselves there is really big chance the owner or someone from the team saying or doing something bad as well, doesn't mean the exchange is bad but it just puts you off. For better or worse binance is still by far the best one out there but if I had a better option I would totally leave binance right now but there is none so I am stuck.

For me, It doesn't really matter which exchanges one trades in – decentralized or centralized. What matters most is the security of funds. Most people might argue that decentralized exchanges gives you more control. Control that is easier said that done? That said, I pick exchanges to trade in based on the following factors:

1. Security of users funds – are funds SAFU?
2. Volume – little to no volume?
3. Fees structure – is it too high?
4. Coins and pairs – are in-demand tokens/coins listed?

Miscellaneous:
1. UI
2. UX
3. userbase.

For now, Binance fits most of the requirements that I've penned down. They have one  of the lowest BTC withdrawal fees (0.0004btc compared to other exchanges of 0.001btc per bitcoin tx).

Binance is still the top rated exchange, but I don't like all the scandals they've been involved in recently. (Hint. STEEM).

If I remembered correctly, CZ tweeted that they thought it was a network upgrade and played along but they immediately stopped when they realized that it wasn't.  I think anyone in Binance's shoe would do the same.

Those great, I know coingecko but I'm ralely to use it, I just used to use coinmarketcap to know crypto prices movement. But just wondering based kn what the rating from? Is there a questionnaire to rating them? Agree if binance is the most reputable exchange, like in this forum if I ask something or there is newbie who ask that he is looking for an exchange then most user will answer binance exchange is good exchange. I hope this will continue and binance can keep its reputation, because getting an honor is very easy compared to holding it.

I'm a much bigger fan of DEX's and the most promising one I know off currently is the Stakenet DEX, which is Lightning Network compatible, meaning you can trade instantly with very low fees, which is pretty damn nice.

It's very soon ready for public release, and I've been beta testing it, so I know it's true potential basically. Once they integrate their DEX Aggregator, you'll be able to access all relevant DEX's orderbooks through the Stakenet DEX, which will add a TON of liquidity.

Coingecko could also add some descriptions or review from users. So we can get clearer view of the reliability of an exchange.
For me, before i start using an exchange i do some background research if that site has good security, if they're popular in twitter and the owner is legit. And if the gambling sites isn't laggy like the ones in yobit and doesn't require KYC with no issues or freezing of accounts like Bitmex.

I prefer Binance as they are the most popular and reputable exchange despite of what challenges they have faced. As a trader, I'm very particular at exchange's customer support and optimizability of a trading platform in which Binance was able to provide with their best. I haven't seen any comfortable exchange like Binance every before that's why it's difficult for me to alter my stand with regards to exchange preference.

Bisq is my preferred exchange - strange that you don't list one of the few truly decentralized exchanges.....

Listing do not mean endorsement. We list it and to inform user what goes behind the exchange and also its liquidity and reliability as best as possible.

I beg to differ. Simply by listing scam exchanges you are legitimising, endorsing & advertising them. Claiming to show liquidity & reliability by listing scam exchanges with fake volume is a contradiction. You are using your position to lure individuals into thinking your listings are legit & safe to use when they most definitely are not.

You're scam promoting.

For me I'm super careful when it comes to picking my exchange platform, so there are many things like ease/speed of authentication, transaction volume etc that I take into account. So on these plus other terms my go to exchange platform is Binance.

However, at times I also use Kraken and though rarely, bestchange - which worked pretty well for me. So, altogether it depends on what I'm interested in trading and how much time I have - this is why I often don't bother testing out other platforms, which is probably bad!

I'm a Kraken girl myself. I've never had any trouble with it after several years, though it certainly sounds like others have and the 2FA hacks are weird and worrying, but it's constantly adding interesting new features and may end up a complete one stop shop for me including OTC. That's if they don't rape me along the way.

Binance and Kucoin for me. I had zero problems with either of them. The others either have weird KYC policies or shitty layouts. If I had to choose one, I'd go with binance. That doesn't mean Kucoin is bad though. It is just, binance is better.

Decentralized exchanges have a long way to go. It's a shame that most traders still prefer to surrender their identity and risk their funds on centralized exchanges. Let us see if there will be changes when regulators clamps down on these exchanges.
Because traders as of now prefer trading volume, large transaction volume means there is a high chance that you are quickly execute trading if there are many pairs to trade. It is good to trade in the decentralized exchange when it comes to avoiding KYC but if you see traders didn't most active. If I am going to choose, I will go to the Binance exchange. They are the most popular exchange platform now and I think that is the best cryptocurrency exchange to trust with.

If someone having difficulties with looking exchange whether it is DEX or CEX. Look at this thread, https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/list-of-decentralizedcentralized-exchanges-2906237.

Although I am not choosing based on a single factor, my most important priority is the transaction volume. Transaction volume is more important than other factors because many users with high transaction volumes have already proven themselves, so many prefer it. However, there are a few important factors to consider except for the peak point. It is very important that the service to be preferred has a good project team and good technical support. On the other hand, the fact that this project team is reliable and pioneering in the industry will also affect the reliability and reputation factors of the service. In addition to all these factors, another detail to be considered is transaction fees and transaction pairs. Services that provide sufficient trading pairs and provide ideal transaction fees & commission rates are always one step ahead for me. Although I answered a little more than the peak point question, I want to say that the peak point for me is the transaction volume, but there are also services that show the transaction volume in an inflated way. For this reason, other factors I mentioned are also very important to me.

68. Idex - 7
71. Bamboo Relay - 7
80. dYdx - 6
88. Binance DEX - 6

The majority of people don't care about the cryptocurrency ideologies. Alternative currency, privacy, etc are not important points to them.
As always #FollowTheMoney.

They're not interested in all this stuff because they're here for the money, buying at $x and selling at $xxx, purely for speculations.
Let's be honest, no matter what they say it is true. I can guarantee you that most of them never opened a white paper once in their life, don't know how to sign a message and they all are happy to be verified on an exchange (giving personal information).

You know, when there is money behind the human is pure shit and can even sell its own parents for some money

...

This question has been asked so many times here, it's a repetitive topic and the answers are always the same more or less.

It would very much handy if you would list and rate decentralized exchanges on a seperate list. I can't see any DEX in the top, may be because they didn't fit your rating criteria.
However, as expected, since I used to follow coingecko than other crypto tracking websites, Binance is always the best for me as well.

I mainly trade on the two major centralized exchanges, Binance and Poloniex, as they have sufficiently high liquidity. I also like KuCoin but it lacks liquidity and therefore trading there is a bit disappointing.

It happens that because of some new token/coins I am interested in, I have to trade on little-known exchanges as they are listed only there.

Custodial exchanges are the antithesis of Bitcoin and cryptoassets. Why even bother with these new technologies if you're not even going to use the benefits they offer?

The list of useful trading technologies should actually be pretty short:

  • Bisq
  • SIBEX

Custodial exchanges are basically all grey market, as they are offering securities trading but are not licensed. Many will exit scam. All of them take your money, and can do whatever they like with it. And they have the power too easily trade against you.

Edit: did you know that most of those custodial exchanges get their pricing data from the same place? That's why they all went dark at the same time a  little while ago.

Now I only use 2 exchanges namely Binance and Indodax (local exchange), I myself have a definition of a reliable exchange, one of which is if the exchange volume is high, it means that many believe in the exchange and will also make my trading transactions faster.
For local exchange that I have use because I know their office and have license from the institution that handle crypto exchange.

so far "best exchange" has always meant an exchange that has not yet reached its expiration date. every exchange had it in the history and new ones are all the same. they all have a short lifetime when they reach the end of the line and either get hacked for real to go down in flames or decide to scam their users on a large scale and disappear. so far there has not been any exception to this rule and i have no reason to believe otherwise.
as a result, the choice is either real decentralized exchanges or taking the extremely high risk route of centralized exchanges. and for that we stick to the "most popular" ones, which is why Binance is on top right now.

We do have Bisq at https://www.coingecko.com/en/exchanges/bisq

You have a lot of metrics in the classification of exchange platforms, which looks good, but needs to be further adjusted, as there are no periodic updates to all categories, as the latest update of a famous platform (like Binance) dates back to 2019.

The amount of liquidity in BTC and whether it is accurate or not considered are not considered.
It is also best to leave the option to the user to set the trust levels so that he re-categorizes the platforms according to his preferences.
I also hope that you remove the new platforms and put a lot of restrictions before they are included.

Would it possible for you to share the updates that you would like to see? So we can see how we can incorporate that

I would pick the same. Binance.

Quote
At CoinGecko, we rank exchanges not by "Volume" as we do not believe in just looking at volume as a measure of liquidity.

Actually, volume is very important in my case. There had been worst experiences when I have traded into low-volume driven exchanger. In-fact the coins that were traded on the exchange was on high demand yet they had no volume to trade and all the money was stuck there.

Just checkout comparison between two exchanger for same pair down below (Its just random comparison on two random Exchangers)

You can see there is big difference in volume, 24 Hours change ratio which tells the trade is faster on one as compared to another.

So you can think on which to use based on Volume actually.

As crypto natives ourself, we know that it can be challenging for traders to find the most reliable exchange to trade on.

In our definition, a reliable exchange is one that you can trust for its liquidity, resilience, wide variety of tokens to choose from, and their ability to handle crisis.

At CoinGecko, we rank exchanges not by "Volume" as we do not believe in just looking at volume as a measure of liquidity.

In fact liquidity can be derived by looking at the spread, orderbook thickness, and slippage (which are all available on CoinGecko, here is an example for bitcoin)

Here are the top cryptocurrency exchanges on our side and we hope this can help drive traders to the exchange with the best liquidity!

https://www.coingecko.com/en/exchanges

And if you trade perpetual contracts or futures, we have it too https://www.coingecko.com/en/exchanges/derivatives

Let us know what you think! And also what are your favorite exchanges?
