I like this site, it's not to 'fancy' and easy to navigate through, I will be getting one of these soon I think!

Btw, I registered.

The only improvement I could suggest is adding more, but the site is actually very good and I have not come across a site like this yet.

Thank you Welsh!  I do plan to add more pre-generated addresses as well.  They were already generated in 2011, I just haven't had a chance to add them yet.

I typically don't thread bomb but I couldn't resist on this one. You're charging 10$ for a 1-5 character vanity that seems way to easy for a computer to automatically do.

My computer can find a case sens one in about 10 seconds:

Even lower without case sens (<1 second):

Honestly, the price for the 10 letter one is about right. It's about a 1 year process for a 1abcdefghij without case sens. (over 100,000 years with case sens)

I don't want it to seem like I'm flaming you or anything, I really don't. But if I went into a local store and saw an outrageous price for some type of item, I might have something to say to the owner. Nothing personal, seriously.

Really wished I could have gotten around to registering for your 1btc drawing, although.
I am mostly charging for my time on those ones - communicating with the customer to get their public key, waiting for the address to generate, packaging it and sending it out.  It is targeted towards those who do not know how to generate their own address or do not want to take the time to figure it out.  Some people don't even know what a command line is, or how to install a particular set of drivers (as vanitygen is only compatible with some driver sets).

It's kind of like how a grocery store charges $5 for a small bundle of wood, whereas if a person bought it straight from a woodcutter, they could get the same amount for $1.  Well, the grocery store has already gone through the work of contacting the woodcutter, bundling the wood, and putting it in a nearby location to make it convenient for the customer, warranting the higher price.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Thats a nice looking website!
I don't quite get your business though, but I don't really know about creating vanity addresses either.

Say I want 1sex46gaoihga42r2, Now this obviously would be worth a lot! if bitcoin was globally accepted. What is stopping me from creating a very close variant of it? I could have 1sex26lignilnrt25 couldn't I?

Anyways I registered, Good luck people.
Hi ABitBack,

Thank you for the complements on the design.

Yes, you certainly could do that!  I wrote in the FAQ a little bit about why firstbits addresses are valuable and useful.  I'll pull two important pieces of that into this post:

Quote
If two addresses compete for the same firstbits, the address that appears in the blockchain first is the only address that can use the given firstbits.  The address appearing further on in the blockchain would have more characters added to the firstbits until it is uniquely defined apart from all addresses appearing before it in the blockchain.

What this means is, I might have the address associated with the firstbits 1sexy, but anyone who generates an address afterward that starts with 1sexy would have the firstbits 1sexyt, or 1sexyw, or 1sexyb, etc.  It wouldn't be valued as highly simply because it is longer, more complicated, and not a primary word by itself.  Certainly, there are still a number of good unclaimed firstbits, and if you want some of them, I'd be happy to help you acquire them with the split key program.

You can look up a firstbits by going to blockchain.info, and typing it into the search bar.  For instance, type 1sexy into the address bar.  You can also send directly to a firstbits address with blockchain.info as well!

Here's some additional reasons why I find firstbits addresses useful:

Quote
●  Consolidating wallets between different computers.  A quick firstbits lookup will show the full address to send Bitcoins to, rather than having to email a full Bitcoin address to myself or attempting to manually copy it down.
●  Relative needs to pay me back for dinner?  A friend bought a piece of computer hardware from me?  If they need to pay me, I simply tell them what firstbits address to send it to, rather than having to remember to carry a QR code with me or emailing them a full Bitcoin address.
●  Shortening the address for space-sensitive online postings, such as forum signatures, forum avatar text, email signatures, or tweets.
●  Tipping!  In the future, artists might sign their artwork with their firstbits addresses, in an effort to gain tips for as long as the image circulates.  Writing in a full Bitcoin address wouldn't be practical, and relying on a centralized address shortener wouldn't ensure longevity of their tips.
●  Memorizing the Bitcoin addresses of other people.  For example, I might know that my own firstbits address is 1justin, which can prove handy, but because they are so short, I might also remember a friend's firstbits address is 1jones, and a relative's firstbits address is 1jerry.  In this way, I can pay them for any reason at any time without having to ask them for an address first.

Very cool idea (esp. the custom service) and great promotion.  I don't know if you are interested, but since you likely have hardware setup just for this purpose, you might want to try some of the bounties (although I think the math is off in some cases) - https://vanitypool.appspot.com/availableWork - although honestly I think most of those would likely take some time (lol I tried "1Casascius" across 4x Quad-Core Xeon 3.5 GHz processors at work... the best it could tell me is that there was a 50% chance that I would find a working key within a year... I think I let it run for 4 hours before I shut it off... who knows, I could have found a key if I had let it run for 4 hours and 1 minute =p).

Oh also registered =).
Thanks!

I've looked through those bounties before, and never really found any that were a better value than just mining by itself.

Certainly, a 9-character address would take quite a long time even with the hardware I do have!

Just playing around with the website, and the free offers. PHYZERO

I have tried to purchase a couple of times and I get

"error creating bit-pay invoice. Please try again or use another payment option".

No other payment options pull up and I get this error consistently.

Hope this helps! Nice idea.
It appears bitpay doesn't like $0 invoices.  Wink  Thanks for the report, I'll see what I can do to fix it.

In the meantime, enjoy this coupon code:

Thanks for the feedback.  I figure if people are willing to trust Casascius coins and online companies to hold their Bitcoins, why not me?  But time will tell.  I would very much like to do split-key vanity address generation on demand though, so I will start looking at adding that as a feature.

Looks interesting. Is there any runner up prizes after the 1BTC promotion?

What about split-key vanity addresses? Find a trusted escrower, then both of you will have to collaborate for any coins to be stolen. Obviously won't work on firstbits you already generated.

See: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/vanity-pool-vanity-address-generator-pool-84569
It is a good idea!  This option didn't exist when I generated these addresses, but it has potential and I would love to also implement that as an option for vanity addresses on request.  Maybe to come in the short future...!

Sell a Vanity Address->Get BTC->Youknow the private key->take all the coins in it away->Profit

You know, this is why I hesitated to sell these keys for a couple of years.  But then, Casascius has the same issue of trust, and people trust him with 11 million dollars worth of coins!  Certainly, I don't expect everyone to immediately trust me, and I fully expect that some people will never trust me, but I am not out to steal anyone's coins, my name and address is public information, and I hope to build up trust over time.  I absolutely suggest that no one keep any significant amount of coins in their addresses, but that they use a sweeper to immediately withdraw the coins from those addresses into other addresses they know are only controlled by them.

Thanks for the feedback, and for entering!  Note that you do not need to post your first/last name from your account, you only need to make sure that your Bitcointalk.org name on your firstbitsrepo.com account matches with your forum name here.  I will take the list of registration names and compare with the list of names of people who have posted in this thread to verify.

I have registered and my account name looks like my name , It's Mithat Can Ozdemir , but I don't know why that is a public knowledge since the purpose of cyrpto is staying anon.
Sorry, my directions must have been confusing.  There is no need to post information about your account here - you only need to post that you have registered, and make sure your bitcointalk.org username is in your Account Information at firstbitsrepo.com.

I am very happy to announce the launch of my web store, FirstbitsRepo.com

Essentially, the web store sells securely delivered Bitcoin private keys for premium firstbits addresses, such as 1admin, 1music, 1sexy, etc.  We also now sell custom 2-factor address generation (you don't have to trust us with your generated private keys!).

To answer some questions and concerns that I know people will be wondering right off the bat:
- The keys were generated offline, and will not touch an online computer unless encrypted.
- Only my wife and myself have access to the private keys.
- This requires no greater trust than that of the beloved Casascius coins, and I aim to continue my reputation as an honest individual.
- The private keys are deleted after customers give us confirmation that they have successfully received them.
- An open source address sweeper is currently in development (not by me, but I paid the bounty to make it happen) to immediately sweep arriving funds to a different address, for those who want to rely on as little trust as possible.
- Private keys are typically delivered via GPG or 7-zip, but we can work to add additional delivery methods as well.

More FAQs are answered here:  http://firstbitsrepo.com/index.php/faq

If you find bad text, a bug, or any sort of exploit, please contact me. I am willing to pay 0.1 to 1.0 BTC, depending on severity.  While customer private keys will never be at risk of exposure, some parts of the website might be exploitable without me knowing.  I would like to avoid this.  The backend is Magento 1.7.0.2 with the bitpay plugin and a couple other minor extensions.

FirstbitsRepo.com's PGP key is listed on MIT's key server:  http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=vindex&search=0x57D252B1958FF408
Bitmessage address is the same as is listed in my signature, BM-onLajozPiQ8NrfXfzx42gsSYYBdhz6T6V
Email address is [email protected]

Coupon codes!
PHY99 - 99% off one item.  (5 uses)
PHY50 - 50% off entire cart. (10 uses)

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask away.  I'll probably be lengthening this OP as questions are asked, etc.
