There are ways to turn deserts into forests. Desalinizing and piping ocean water is a non-starter. We don't have that kind of electricity or spare materials.

Probably not a starter but very good boaster. having enough water will definitely make thing a lot easier and faster. The Druzhba Pipeline: 4,000km tell me about power and material again. Besides i didn't say we only have to pipe saltwater fresh water can also be piped.

Some deserts have underground aquifers. The real problem is the shifting topsoil ( sand) About 50 years ago, Shell  produced a sticky fertiliser to try to stop this, but the nomads living there burnt or ate anything that grew, and the project was abandoned.

wow it was an amazing attempt. can still be redone. But relaying on aquifers is a wild guess. i prefer to go with what i see. lets bring shit tone of water to these deserts and start doing some admirable stuffs!!

OMG,Do you think every plants can survive with salt water?

Definitely not, only very few species can survive and for them its not possible to grow on lands like loose sand and nothing else.

If you want this place to be greener first stop cutting the trees then can think about building water lanes from pacific to sahara. Grin

you may have misunderstood my intentions.   Bringing salt water to the desert doesn't mean we are going to trow it on everything that grows and lives. We have advance a lot in technology we can maneuver salt water in what ever way we want to get what every kind of water we want. first problem is to get the water where we want. And me advocating for water to be taken to the desert does  not mean i encourage deforestation. No we should be more conscious of how we cut trees and should also try planting some and why not try planting them in some crazy places like the desert... real adventure ..

We as a people have built large pipes to transports huge volume of crud oil over long distances across the globe. Is it so difficult to do the same with water? Why haven't we done the same to transport water from ocean, sea, lake, rivers etc... to deserts all across the world where it is much needed?.

This can help increase the rate of desert greening, re-afforestation and help in the whole lots of other global related problems.

Thoughts>>>

Why do you think deserts need mankind to bring them water? What about all the species of plants and animals that would die by us messing with their environment. It is extremely close minded to think that all living things need the same environmental conditions that we do to thrive.

Sure thing this will course some nuisance in other habitats marine especially but this can be done in a controlled way. Besides i think there is enough volume in the seas and oceans for us to remove before it really starts hurting anyone. the desert is growing and that is not a good thing for the planet as whole sooner or later the desert's growth along with global warming is going to affects these creatures you don't want to harm now. A stitch in time Bro saves plenty.
